Toha Heavy Industries? I've read a bit of Blame and I've been wondering since. Does Blame take place in the same universe as Knights of Sidonia? Not only the company but there are also other similar names, such as Killy's weapon (gravitational beam emitter was it?), although it's a lot more compact than the one in KoS.

I have exactly the same feelings watching this trailer. In the original "Blame!" the dialogues were shortened to the minimum necessary. Netflix version is a mistake, I can understand that in Sidonia no Kishi every moment someone burst into emotions because it was also in the manga, but "Blame!" it is so harsh and cold that when reading it has the impression of a total of boundless emptiness and depression which makes it an interesting item for fans of the cyber-postapo universe.
6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Even if this trailer shows few minutes, they don't feel nothing close to the manga, which was all about dull atmosphere. This new product, based on Blame!, looks too much as an action. The music too, doesn't recall the mood you can exprerience along the reading of the manga.

I've read the manga and just watched this the other day. It was fine. It would take a boss ass director to capture the feel of the manga perfectly, I don't think this director felt like risking it. It was a fine movie though. I was expecting a complete train wreck, it wasn't THAT bad.

@@FireBomberBassist it was pretty good movie. But I do think it stick to the basic optimistic hero journey too much. You just don't get that slow burn of depression and hopelessness. And maybe killy quest was all for nothing but you keep rooting for him because of that tiny silver of hope. I mean it have the basic pillars but it is kinda optimistic compare to the manga, like the villagers scene for example. Too much dialogue, too little mind bending Sci fi concept.

So I’m a huge fan of the Blame! manga and I watched this film on Netflix when it came out; wasn’t a fan of the animation style when it was first announced but I said “hell, I’m happy this manga is actually getting a film and being recognized, I’m gonna give this a watch ...” Man I wasn’t disappointed. They got the atmosphere and most of the characters spot on compared to the manga, and even though there were some scenes I wanted to see, they cut out or replaced with other scenes, I still enjoyed the hell out of this film, the soundtrack was great as well. If they end up making another one which I hope to god they do because Blame! is a dark-cyberpunk atmospherical experience, and there are still parts of the manga that have to be explored.

It instantly looks way better than the Blame! ONA that came out in '03(If you haven't, go watch them now, they're good). While those were more artsy with their 6 minute episodes trying to capture a more "avante garde" look, this looks far more story and visually driven to the manga, plus, it looks like they finally found the perfect level of cgi and animation to make the explosions appear so crisp yet brutal

Though I'm extremely excited to see this, I do worry about the execution of this story. BLAME! is supposed to have a ambient and deeply reflective feel to it the visual elements of the story -- akin to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey or Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life. The manga has very few words and part of the story is told through environment, ambiguation, and philosophy. Where I can appreciate and understand the producers and directors imagining this story as a single movie, rather than a dragged out visual piece of ambient emptiness. What worries me is how this story will be told in the movie. It's not meant to be fast paced, it's meant to feel isolated, cold, alone, lost, and scared. Mr. Nihei's vision is intended to reflect that and this trailer showed me a fast-paced action flick. Hopefully the trailer just has a different vibe than the actual movie to interest fans not familiar with BLAME! already. Also, I remember the Synthetics being WAY more twisted and intimidating in the novel over these Will Smith's iRobot looking guys. Their faces in this trailer look all cute, not uncanny at all. What do you all think of the Synthetics, do their looks have the same feel to you in this trailer as they did in the manga?

Is the same fear I have! and also always tought a Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey ambient for a Blame! adaptation, but sincerelly I don't think the studios plned something like that. Anyway, let's give it a chance, maybe is not like the manga, but still turns to be a great adaptation, diferent is not always bad!

Irepani C. S.P. I have recently watched it and I'll admit it was pretty good. Their trailer for this KZbin video sucks and do not illustrate the feel of the movie. The execution was well thought out, but falls short replicating the manga. They tried to give it atmosphere, and in some scenes pulled the acrophobic feel off very well. But, the story felt rushed, and felt like a fan-fic side story of Killy's journey. The art turned me off at first, the slow movie CGI animated characters gave an awkward feel to it, but I got used to it by the end. I just hope this serves as a testbed or pilot to see if fans want this or if they could do this. If they could make a 1:1 adaptation of the manga at this level of quality and budget, they would have my undivided attention for sure. 7/10

Some of the frames in this trailer remind me of the type of animation that we saw in Knights of Sidonia, which I really enjoyed, and other shots are conjuring up imagery from The Animatrix which is one of my all-time favorite animes. I'm wondering if some of the people who were involved in the creation of either of those two projects are in some way affiliated with this. Even if that's not the case, this looks like it will turn out to be quite good. A must see for me!

I expect less dialogue and more visual storytelling. The original manga barely has any dialogue. And, sadly, with colors, and with this style of animation, kind of loss the claustrophobic air of those amazing buildings and structures, I don't know how to describe it, but here, the world looks more "alive". But I have trust in the team behind this, Knights of sidonia (especially 2n season) and Ajin were amazing in character development, avoid several anime cliches and overall were all fun to watch.

Every studio should go in Wit Studio's steps and adapt its method of using CGI in anime. There's no point in using CGI to almost anything, especially character models because it always looks worse and unnatural. Leave the CGI to certain action elements, like Wit used it for Colossal Titan fight, which actually looked awesome, cause they've combined elements of CGI with regular animation. Also traditionally drawn character models in AoT look beautiful and they would've looked much worse if they'd been made in CGI.

la he visto mas de 20 veces; solo espero que netflix se atreva a sacar una serie fiel al manga. lo cual seria en este punto, todo un clásico del cyberpunk para las próximas generaciones.

Pretty decent CGI movie. At the very least, hopefully it draws some more fans to the BLAME! series. BLAME! hasn't had a piece done for it in a decade, so it's nice to see it is still remembered.

Ive always felt in the manga like the megastructure was a silent abyss, with occasional clanking sounds of metal echoing from the unknown depths of it. And if you could actually hear any sounds, it meant that fatal danger was imminent. This trailer looks just way too action-loaded, dramatic and noisy. Kind of takes all the tension out of it, that the manga had. I hope im wrong. This would be my first anime again to watch in years.

Ollie Fr,people are comparing this to the train wreck that was Beserk 2016 when this actually looks fucking good. At some points I subconciously drew a connection the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Games cause the CG in this to me looks as stunning as something like Storm 4 first looked for me,heck i'd say it looks even better

FlipFlopper-Sonic11o9 {Lord Of Corn} Wow! That is a huge praise. That game did have fantastic looking CG. I think some fans cannot look past all the bad CG anime. I could barely finish Berserk, because it was so bland to me, imo. CG mixed in with 2D in anime such as Attack on Titan, is fantastic!
