Hi, I noticed a small fuel stain by your fuel selector, it's usually the o ring, MS 29513-010, and you can replace it by removing the large nut and the o ring is on the shaft, no need to defuel, just don't pull on the shaft or you will have a leak, it's tapered, so push it back in. If your fuel selector is stiff, you can lube it with one hand and use the other hand with a long finger to stop the gas, work fast, it can be done, good luck with the annual, MP

I own S/N 3431 - sold on September 9, 1946 in Dallas Texas and immediately flown to Fairbanks Alaska where it spent the next 20 years after which it was sold and flown to San Carlos California in 1965. Originally an 8A converted to an 8E with a C85 I've owned it since 2004. Interesting trivia - according to the logbooks it took him 51 hours to fly from Dallas to Fairbanks!

My grandparents house had an inspection sticker of 1965 for their house in San Carlos, CA. Not aviation related but an interesting bit of six degrees of separation.

Juan, I was born in 1944 and the Mighty Luscombe was born in 1946. I too have had parts replaced (kidney 1995) I must say the Mighty Luscombe has faired much, much better with its new parts!!! Just kidding I’m actually in very good health.

Great walk around…described the airframe annual very clearly. The Mighty L’s annual is very much like my ‘47 Cessna 140’s checkup. Door posts-gear box-spars create the critical structure. Beautifully restored example in the Mighty L!

Juan, now is when purchasing a fiber optic inspection cameras really pays for it's self. Since most of the cameras have the ability to record, snaking the camera into tight locations and the playing the video back on a large screen provides for a detailed inspection as well as a record of inspection. Cycling the control surfaces to look for rub points that may have been missed otherwise.

Be sure to spend the extra $$ and get one with a detachable screen. Trying to get the camera in the right position AND the screen viewable at the same time can be difficult. Some have a USB plug in to allow real time vid transfer to the computer.

I’m now retired after near forty five years as an A&P AI . For the benefit of existing Luscombe owners and any potential owners, I’m glad that you stressed the importance of the careful inspection of the forward and rear boxes and the attachment of the tail empennage. A wonderful aircraft design, for many years I always thought of them as a bit of a sleeper on the used aircraft market. As a side note, my wife is with the same company, same crew position in the 87, if you two ever cross paths expect a self introduction. She is a fan of your channel. Take care.

JB needs one of those 1/4" endoscope cameras with adjustable lighting for his smartphone! Its amazing that a $20-100 accessory is far and away better than $500+ standalone units from just a few years ago! All without having to download software or swap around SD cards just to transfer pictures 🤦‍♂️ my old one articulates so I still use it, but quickly get frustrated at the image quality and sending pictures as soon as I remember how much I paid for it! 😆👍

The tedious nature of removing the necessary parts is a small price to pay to ensure you have a sound airframe and aircraft for the coming year, single handedly the most important part of flying is safety, and much respect to you Juan for what I'm sure many would not go to the same extent for, and that is making sure that yourself and all that fly in the Mighty Luscombe is safe and fit for flight, a true credit to you good sir!!!! Cheers from Aus!!!!

I'm enjoying this series. My favourite annual inspections were the first annual inspection for a new owner that "did not" have a pre-purchase inspection. I insisted that the new owner be there and participate. That way the owner could witness all the defects and know I was not BSing him. Welcome to aircraft ownership.

This is so cool. I heard tideous, but I really think its so cool to be behind check and double check everything. I wish I would have been an AMP. What's really cool, is Juan's knowledge of what are more areas of importance. Its not a car, its an airplane! I'm so glad I was able to have a father that was one of the best. Don't slack on anything! Period. The luscombe is very awesome plane. I defiantly like and favor that hot rod A-35 (I think) Beach behind you.
