Joni Mitchell never wanted to be this Folk Music Wispy Fairy-Girl. She's an artist who experimented with different genres and sounds. Good for her for growing.

I rememer going into a record store in London's West End when the "Mingus" album came out. I looked through the Solo Artis bins in vain, then tried the Jazz section - no luck there either. Finally I cornered an assitant and asked him where to find the record. Without hesitation and with a straight face he pointed, Over there in folk....

s'not folk, it was acoustic music (I think folk is different). I really like her early stuff too, but yes, you are right re her artistry explorations

@@julianbates2040 blue is definitely at least partially a folk album
@jmiller052 жыл бұрын
@@byHexted It's not really a folk album, at least to me. There's folk elements but some of the piano melodies for example are not folk, they're almost jazz/classical.

As a songwriter, hearing Joni say that lyrics are hard is quite assuring

The 80's were such a viciously strange and stupid time, it's great to see and hear something more real and worthwhile from then such as this interview. Joni is a hero and a precious gift.

Such a beautiful, sincere person. Truly an example should be made of how Joni Mitchell handled stardom. No matter what she held onto who she was and stayed true to herself which is where her beauty shines from not only as an artist (visual, musical, or otherwise) and as a person.
