It's interesting how the quintet plays a tune written 40 years earlier and their interpretation sounds current, relevant, even timeless; nothing dated about it either in structure or performance. When Toto comes out and launches into one of its "megahits" from the 80's, it seems tired, old and dated; a trip down nostalgia lane...... The glaring difference between journeymen and musical masters.

Easton, while I enjoyed immensely their new reading of Footprints, I think you're being a bit unfair to Toto. Apples to oranges, and a liability of having such a mixed bill in the name of ticket revenue (why is Toto performing at Tokyo Jazz...right after these guys??). I certainly wouldn't call the guys in Toto "journeymen" by ANY stretch. They may not be jazz legends, but that doesn't detract from their musical mastery. And I doubt they were thrilled to follow Hancock, Shorter, et.al.

great jazz masters but follow an ordinary rock band toto. totally, unrelated and bad perform of toto's vocal.
