I love this whiskey - hard to find though. I am partial to Single barrel bourbon. Picked up Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel here in Maine for $50. Its incredible and I liken it to Blanton's. Equally as delicious in my opinion. Look forward to your review of it.

I’m late to this party, but I walked into my favorite store and Lo! and Behold! they had a few bottles of Blantons! Limit one per customer, so I got one bottle in its box. Bill, Enjoyed this review. In our area, we see this much more at different stores (and even some as the dot375 half bottles) than Wellers Antique 107. Some are at about $70 and more at $99. I agree, very balanced and the nose is fantastic. Cheers.

Hey Bill, if you ever get a chance to try Blanton's Gold and Blanton's Straight From the Barrel I highly recommend it. You can skip the Blanton's Reserve. Reserve is 80 proof and in my opinion it isn't as good as the Original Blanton's. For Christmas this year, my dad got me a surprise bottle of Blanton's Straight From the Barrel (I live in the US like you, so he had to have it imported). It's the greatest bourbon I've ever had. It's like you took the smell and taste of the original Blanton's, but then you cranked up the volume knob to Booker's level. Truly an exceptional bourbon. I was able to get my hands on a bottle of Blanton's Gold a couple of years ago. Extremely good bourbon. Basically just take Blanton's original and make it 103 proof instead of 93. Still very well balanced, and actually incredibly smooth for that proof level. I couldn't tell it was 10 proof points higher than Original Blanton's. I could just tell that it had a higher quantity of those Blanton's flavors. Finally, there's one more special thing about warehouse H that I believe you didn't mention. From my understanding, Warehouse H is steam heated in the winter to make sure the bourbon continues to age even though it's below freezing outside. So, besides having large temperature fluctuations during the Spring / Fall's cold and warm fronts thanks to the metals walls, it also continues to age during the winter. Great review as always!

At The Whiskey House in San Diego they use empty Blanton bottles (without topper & label) as water serving bottles. They remind me of the Holy Hand Grenade in Monty Pythons’ Holy Grail. I’ve tasted Blanton but not yet purchased a bottle, I’ll have to pickup a bottle for March 2019 “Bourbon Month”.

Great video Bill! My first and only taste of Blanton’s was in NYC last March with a friend of mine. $24 a dram! But it was soooo good! I recently found them an hour away from me here in NW Iowa. Small bottles, $14! Like finding a unicorn in the wild. I didn’t get it cuz I’m a father of 4 and it wasn’t in the books at the time. I hope they still have some. Kinda doubt it, as good as it is. The guy working there had no clue how much of a big deal this stuff is.

I can’t help but feel that Blanton’s single barrel is sometimes treated like the Johnnie Walker Blue of bourbon. Some act as though it is definitely not worth the trouble, nor the price tag that comes with it. While I am fairly new to the whisk(e)y game, I feel that Blanton’s is most definitely worth the hunt. There is a limit to what I would personally pay for a bottle, but I enjoy it so much, I have paid up to $85 for one. Similarly I have paid the $200 plus for JWB and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. I am lucky enough to have tracked down 3 bottles of Blanton’s in my area at two completely different price points, but to me that’s just part of the fun. Try this bourbon once, and I highly doubt most would be disappointed!

Great review Bill, I was fortunate to visit Buffalo Trace last December walking by the famous Warehouse H. When we toured the bottling room they had just finished a run of Blanton's with boxes and boxes ready to ship out. Ironically every store I visited in Kentucky had no Blanton's available at all but I flew to Tokyo soon after and almost every store I visited had an ample supply of Blanton's at a very reasonable price.

Great to hear the Blanton's are so plentiful in other areas. By me they are often 1 to a store every 8-9 months. There is such a fervor for it they are scooped up and sometimes sold on the secondary market for triple the MSRP.

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Eagle Rare a firm favourite. I've had Weller special reserve but after a ton of other bourbon so can't judge it yet lol. Have a bottle of Weller SR and saving it, I live in Ireland and the choice and availability of bourbon here is poor. Any bottle of good bourbon is a unicorn, Weller SR is a golden Unicorn. You mentioned Blanton's was 60 dollars a bottle, 125 euros here minimum. Beggars can't be choosers unfortunately lol.

Bill, Walked into my favorite store this morning and they have a Store Pick Blantons for $65 so bought one. This store had a fantastic SP Buffalo Trace about a year ago so I figured they should do the same for Blantons. Just perfect for Derby Day. I'll have to see if there is a horse running that will match up with this bottle. Remember, the MORE you bet, the more you WIN!! Cheers.

It was weirdly harder to find for me than I'd hoped but there was some close enough where I didn't have to travel too far to find. Prices tend to wander from region to region but I paid $60 for it. Cool fact is John Wick drinks one of the internationally available Blanton's Green Label in John Wick 2 on top of the US version in the first John Wick.

Base Blanton's called Blanton's Single Barrel @ 93 Proof (that your tasting here) vs. Blanton's Straight from the Barrel 127 Proof or higher can be confusing and misleading to first time buyers. I can buy the first one for around $70 but the Barrel Proof version I'm finding at $250 and higher here in the states. Have you tried the Barrel Proof (127 proof) version and how do you compare the lower proof one to this one you have tasted here ? My guess is the great flavors and following was created from the barrel proof version not the one your tasting here.

It's not always that it's hard to find, it's often that it's gotten outrageously priced. January of 2018 I paid $55. By August it had jumped to $61. After the same store not having it all winter, they finally got it back in April and had jumped to $80. Even then that feels cheap for the most part compared to where it can be found.

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary it's my favorite bourbon but I put a price limit on what I will spend because it doesn't last long. A few months, but then the price goes up the next time I find it. I follow pages on social media that highlight prices and due to what the secondary market does, these pages show prices well over $100. Now the store I had bought my first 2 bottles of Blanton's has also jacked the Buffalo Trace to $40 for the 750 mL. I can take a 2 hour trip to a major city, to visit friends and find BT at $22. Guess what I'll be doing!

Ok Bill - got a dumb question for you. Regarding the toppers on Blantons. My current bottle has the letter "S" on the topper. The box the bottle came in also had an "S" on the picture. Does the picture on the box reflect the letter that is on the horses hooves within that box? Or is this just a happenstance? I offered to get my daughter a set of toppers, but she is adamant about drinking our way to complete the set. (I have no idea where that bourbon drive comes from)🍸

Definitely hard to find now. Cheapest I’ve seen it by me was $80. Reasonable i guess. Same thing goes for eagle rare by me. I ended up paying 50 for one. People buy multiple bottles in one shot is part of that reason we over pay. I just hope they ended up being shared.
