I think the dog is the game's way of saying you suck. I died multiple times the first time at the start, and saw the dog. I was low health and petting it gets your health back. The second time around, I didn't die as much and puppy never showed up.

Best part is the ruby and sapphire items being references to Stormlight gems from the books haha, always love me some Cosmere references like the Windgunner spren gun in Gungeon. Fills with a "stormy light" from another land, love it

The first playthrough i just used a trainer to give myself enough to donate but didnt realize you had to leave and reenter so i just went from basic to lavish haha

It also lets you teleport check point to checkpoint instead of portal to portal, which saves up lots of time
