We started SwitchUp as we just didn’t find what we were looking for in what was already out there. There are some brilliant creators - but we enjoyed a more retro format like the old gaming magazines. Scoring 5 sections out of 20 to give a percentage score like the good old days! I've been super hyped ever since I saw the first trailer, a couple of years ago. I've seen several opinions, and most people seem to really like the game. Can't wait to buy it, and I hope that the game sells well enough for it to get a physical release.

This is a really good looking game for the art style. I think based upon your feedback it seems needlessly difficult in some aspect. I think I would wait for Death’s Gambit or stick to Sekiro Die Twice for my ps4

Yea I can agree to that. You've convinced me. I used to think it wasnt like darksouls, neither is hollowknight. I'm an nes/snes age gamer so I love darksouls. And I'm a metroid vania origin fan and a snob about it. I hate when people same hollow knight is like darksouls. Why? Cuz story telling method iskinda similar ? Or when u die you respawn at basically a check point like most games since ff7 and before? Nope. But by saying symph plus darksouls it totally makes sense to me. And I know agree.

This Game reminds me of the remarkable "Salt & Sanctuary" which had been described as a side scrolling equivalent to Dark Souls. This game looks awesome, has good Synology and after such a well presented review of the game I'll be making my purchase soon.

To be very precise it is like a blend of Deaths Gambit and Dark Souls 3. The art direction has a real DS3 tone and it really plays most like Death's Gambit.

This game is so similar to Chakan (1992) on the Sega Megadrive, or Genesis, if you're viewing in America. I think it took alot of artistic license from that game. The quest of a tortured soul with an overbearing task to accomplish. Although it must be said, there are some big differences between the 2 games, there is still so much similarity between them. To me, it feels like a modern remake, or a long awaited sequel to that awesome Megadrive game. If you haven't played Chakan, do give it a try, it's one of the Megadrives most criminally underated games. So thats high praise indeed, that I speak about Blasphemous in the same breath as its predecessor.

Just f.y.i I purchased the game yesterday and the bugs are not fixed. I defeated the baby boss and then the game glitched out which meant i had to fight the boss a second time which was a nightmare. Then there are certain things that you must do to get certain items but in my playthrough I was not able to do these things at all. ( not being specific because of spoilers) but just warning you if u were planning on spending ur money on this game. Just my experience.

This game without the DLC is worth $20, easy. Now, with free DLC, $20 is a steal. It's worth every penny if you like Dark Souls, Hollow Knight, and Metroidvanias. I'm playing again for the 438174th time. As of July 2023, it has been patched, so some of the gripes here are no longer. It also received free DLC; new areas, bosses, character skins, story additions, and a new ending that leads into Blasphemous 2, out 9/15/23. Can't wait!

Hey SwitchUp! Had this game for a while now. It got updated recently with it's "Stir of Dawn" dlc being added into the game. Excellent game all-round, but there are a few hiccups with the new update. I've been in contact with the devs and they've been extremely accommodating with everything so far! Truly incredible game, just waiting for some patches to sort out some of the current issues. His issues with the game is not that much of a problem to begin with anyway. The "no quest log" and the "no minimap" issues are non-issues. You can finish the quest just by exploring and talking to people.

I’m really enjoying playing this game but the frame rate drop & screen freeze is a big problem at times especially when timing of jumps is essential & it freezes in between thus causing sooo many deaths & frustration i’m not sure if it is just a switch problem or on all platforms but I really hope they come up with a patch to sort it!!

Probably not, just like with Childen of Morta and Moonlighter. Literally all those beautiful and amazing pixel-art slashers lack is replayability - otherwise they have nearly all of the components of a great game.

Sean Huxley it doesn’t add much new to the genre but it’s immaculately polished and it sums up the genre very well . It’s quite good I would recommend playing it asap

epictrollface51 couldn’t have put it better myself. It has somewhat of a Tim Burton vibe in its simple yet eerie design. The atmosphere and general gameplay is just near perfect. It mimics Metroid in that the areas explored are unique and provoke curiosity and mystery. One good thing it does different is having perks you can choose to fit your play style. HK is basically the Super Metroid of this generation

It's been rough for me; at first I was waiting on Bloodstained ROTN but it had some serious issues. Now Blasphemous appears to have it's own set of issues. Do I go back and get Hollow Knight or should I wait for the next installment, Silksong?

A patch would possibly fix the lack of mini map, the (very slight) framerate dips or the lack of a quest log. It wouldn’t fix the poor fusion of platforming and hack and slash sections (for example) and these are not very enjoyable. Hope that helps. Glen

Now, about reviewing in general, for games that change quite a bit after launch, is it worth a re-review or should the blight stay on the devs? Also, looking at it from the other point of view; what would you do if the devs add something like micro-transactions after launch of the game?

It comes down to time on our part. We would generally add a pinned comment if there has been a dramatic change to a game but we are inundated with codes, etc that it’s very hard to re-review games. Glen

I like it but with its faults a demo might have pushed me but as it is theres other games with great reviews and cheaper

I've been so hyped for this game since it was first announced and now I can see nothing but rather avarage scores. Would you recommend it to a guy who just loves 2d platformers that are challenging yet fair ? How are the controls in general?Are there any input lags? How is the performance? I'm asking all these questions after being hugely disappointed with the port Bloodstained.

Performance is fine in general, some drops. No real lag problems. It’s more metroidvania than platformer and the platform sections are quite weak due to the abundance of enemies everywhere. Possibly wait for a sale. Glen

I've looked around and found no clear answers. Does anyone know why the Nintendo Switch version of this game is seven times the size of the PC version? On Switch the game is 7.1 GB, installed on Windows 11, it is 763 MB.

holy shit this looks great and better than i expected. it just sucks as a metroidvania fan that soooooo many have popped up. i've gotten so many and almost burnt myself out. not all the way through but from what i've seen this looks like a must own for me.

I dont see Death's Gambit get mentioned enough as a comparison to Blasphemous. Its way more like DG than DeadCells.
