This dev commentary was the absolute best. I played this game when I was a kid and absolutely loved it.

Did you get all the platinums? That's no easy feat.

I recommend starting at 5:56. The guest on the playthrough is Martin Wakeley, who was Lead Designer for Blast Corps and spent 8 years at Rare.

amazing that one of the best n64 games was made by under 10 people and often under 5. just screwing around and trying out shit that made them laugh. Shows how skilled and talented this group really was with limited resources on the cutting edge. there needs to be a remake or sequel

This is one of the best games i ever played, i got all platinums back in 1998 on the n64, one of the hardest things i ever did in a videogame

Wow you must only play shit games then because this is one of the worst games I've ever played.

Damn, son. I could barely get all platinum times after 2 and a half years! And you guys did it in under an hour! Awesomeness incarnate.

I played this game a long time ago. Offers no guidance and every level you beat, you actually feel like you accomplished something. Too bad there weren't that many people. I never actually got to beat the game unfortunately :(

You must be so lucky to have Martin Wakeley be part of this speedrun as someone for commentary.

I've done an any% speedrun of this game several times a few years back. Not live but just on my own time. Used to love this game back in my childhood. Although I really get nervous when I do Diamond Sands. Nice job!

I've rented this game from blockbuster before back in 1995 or 1996. I could never remember its name and it was extremely difficult finding it again. But boy am I glad to see Blast Corps again. :)

Man, Rare made the _best_ games back in the N64 era. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, Jet Force Gemini...

Just hearing "no trouble at all" was incredibly nostalgic. But that said, we beat this game as kids and I don't remember really any of the levels.
@SegaDisneyUniverse5 жыл бұрын
Man, this game was definitely a piece of my childhood! To this day I couldn't even beat the game let alone get all of the achievements!😆 That guy breezed through it like nothing! But yeah, this game is so underrated, if only the devs could bestow upon us a remaster.

15:17 The talk about the soundtrack is really interesting, especially when Martin talks about composer Graeme Norgate (since one of the tracks in the game sound a bit like Front Line Assembly.)

Was this done on Rare Replay?
@TiberiousNeruda7 жыл бұрын
This is the initial US release of the game on N64. A later revision removed the Z-trick, and Rare Replay uses the 1.1 release. There is a way to get a 'stored' Z-trick in 1.1, but it takes more setup and is generally referred to as the 'Super Z-Trick', which is itself more of a stored version of the technique known as the 'Citizen Stomp' (the little man you control is technically a vehicle and destroys stuff for free when in the air).
