A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched NOAA's GOES-U satellite from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on June 25, 2024. Full Story: www.space.com/...
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) GOES-R series constellation is expected to be complete with the GOES-U satellite.
The mission is historic for many reasons, including the fact it will mark the first time a NOAA satellite will be transported to space using a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

From 2:45 onwards, there is a great view of the boosters separating and returning. It is the first time I have ever seen that view, and it occurred to me that the boosters are almost flying back in formation. They separate from the core and end up a few hundred meters apart, and they are heading back to a couple of landing pads that are a few hundred meters apart, so I suppose it isn't a surprise that they are fairly close together for the entire flight back. What are the odds of them colliding? How far apart are they actually? Do they keep track of each other's position to make sure they don't collide? Are their flight computers so accurate that they can each fly a very precise course back and not have to worry about any collision?
@mistertagnan
@mistertagnan 3 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure that the accuracy required to land ensures they won’t collide. Only way I could see that happening is if an engine failed during boost back, but even then the booster would probably be terminated by FTS before a collision occurred

@@anonymous-zn2iv It's stupid for NASA to compare with a private company that develops only rockets, it's like comparing a company that makes only sports cars with a company that makes all vehicles from bicycles to trucks, including sports cars, obviously a company that will produce only sports cars will be much better than a company that produces everything, did SpaceX develop telescopes? planetary rovers? A landing system for other planets? deep space probes? And it's also safe to assume you didn't actually advance 1 frame at a time or you'd see that it most certainly appears to fly straight through the flame. Right wing disappears behind the flame while the next frame and next after that show the left wing & body in front of it, or literally in the middle of it.
