@safifulkin87724 ай бұрын
NASA has focused on cargo and technology development, on the contrary, it is good that Nasa is doing what it is good at, making research vehicles. Imagine that I am a scientist, and I want to measure the temperature from Antarctica, yes, the example is stupid, but indicative, before NASA had to develop a thermometer and a boat to get there, the boat needs to be tested so that our expensive thermometer does not sink, that is, a simple task to measure the temperature turns into a task to develop a whole ship, now it's enough for them to rent a boat from a private company, I hope I got the gist

You obviously don't know what NASA is. They are a space exploration and astrophysics research entity, and developer/acquirer of the relevant tools to do so. Designing launch vehicles and providing launch services isn't what they do, though historically they've had to do it for themselves because space has only been commercialized and made cost effective very recently in our history.

From 2:45 onwards, there is a great view of the boosters separating and returning. It is the first time I have ever seen that view, and it occurred to me that the boosters are almost flying back in formation. They separate from the core and end up a few hundred meters apart, and they are heading back to a couple of landing pads that are a few hundred meters apart, so I suppose it isn't a surprise that they are fairly close together for the entire flight back. What are the odds of them colliding? How far apart are they actually? Do they keep track of each other's position to make sure they don't collide? Are their flight computers so accurate that they can each fly a very precise course back and not have to worry about any collision?
@mistertagnan5 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure that the accuracy required to land ensures they won’t collide. Only way I could see that happening is if an engine failed during boost back, but even then the booster would probably be terminated by FTS before a collision occurred

A landing system for other planets? deep space probes? When the side boosters detach, how fast are they going horizontally ?? Follow up, the fairings, how do they not burn up?
@teeanahera89494 ай бұрын
Neither boosters or fairings are truly in space, so unlike a much higher orbit object they don’t build much inertia on return and the fairings are quite light for their surface area, this allows them to travel too slowly due to drag for too much heat to generate. They deploy a parasail for the actual landing to prevent anything from breaking. Satellite debris from much higher orbits do burn but not sufficiently and land with a thud!
