Crooked Cook is only unaffected by card effects when it is the only card on Blau's side of the field. Every time Blau activated upstart goblin or any other spell, the immunity of crooked cook was in a way suspended until resolution as he technically controls another card until the effect resolves. So if an effect were to be chained to that spell card that would destroy or banish crooked cook, it would work because in yugioh chains resolve backwards so Blau's spell (like upstart goblin) would stay on the field until the end of the chain. Another way to deal with crooked cook is with piercing damage. Dark Magician decks have access to Dark Cavalry which does piercing damage to defense position monsters even if its not destroyed.

If you would try the first thing he would just activate crooked cook's effect to destroy the upstart goblin or whatever Meaning you would need another banishing effect to be able to activate after that

You use Foolish Burial to thin the deck a little and get rid of a card you don't need, so you can get to Exodia faster.

Or toon table of contents plus toon world thins ur deck by 4 cards off one table. Thunder dragons could even be better trade for trade foolish only sends one card

I wonder if he had a Dark Cavalry in his extra deck or Dark Magician the Knight of Dragon Magic, if that card is available. Haven't played in like 6 months so don't know if that card has been added yet. Understanding piercing damage and other cards that get around the effect of Blau's card, makes it easily beaten once you understand it. Usually only works on new players or a deck that doesn't have a way to interact with his card.

You may be interested in Exodia Incarnate, an Exodia-related Rare card that is unaffected by card effects (similarly to Crooked Cook) AND lets you draw 1 for every Exodia piece in your hand if destroyed by battle

Crooked Cook is a really fun card mechanic that does have some outs. You can run Blue Eyes MAX Dragon, and you'll be able to inflict piercing battle damage. There are some pure exodia decks that run a 1 tribute Kaiju that comes in handy for moments like this. I like to consider it the Mystic Mine of monsters, there's an easy out, but you have to plan for it. Another funny way of removing it is to Super Poly it with Ace Spades Speculation, because it gains the effect of not being destroyed by card effect or battle in defense position. Meaning you have Crooked Cooked their Crooked Cook. It's the ultimate no u move with no out, and in fact, is a better card in that you aren't limited to just one card existing on the board

I've fought against crooked cook over 7 times. Literally yesterday for the new XYZ event too. Ive always won. Its not hard to beat. I use war rocks. People bully that deck but getting a full board is easy, 1 boss monster can attack directly, so ive never had a problem beating it. But it is a fun puzzle to beat lol.

Just use monster that does piercing battle damage for example Choas Max Dragon, will end its exhistance. Also crooked cook is uneffected by cards or effects that target it. Thats why piercing battle damage gets calculated because its an ability that effects game state not target a card or cards.

Hmm... have heard of "piercing battle damage"? Even a simple Lancer Archfiend can make your time shorter since it doesn't increase defence. Also, any card with effects similar to "Grisaille Prison" can stop you from summoning it. Or if opponent suddenly gives you tokens which is also bad. I don't recommend you to rely on this card. Except if you predict your opponent's counter for it. Nice tactic to counter Dark Magician Deck btw. And I hope you get better and have fun dueling.

You really shouldn't use any spells when Cook is out because they can chain with your spell and Cook won't have the unaffected by card effect status as you have another card on field (which is the spell you just used). Only handtraps are usable without ruining Cook lock

did you even summon him with the "can't be destroyed by battle" monster? cause you didn't use right-hand shark as material and that's what gives him that effect, your opponents could've destroyed crooked cook by battle, they just never did cause they thought it wouldn't do anything, I'm pretty sure you just accidently gaslit your friend into loosing
