Originally airing from 1996-1998 'Blazing Dragons’, the show followed the knights of the square table, made up entirely of bumbling anthropomorphic dragons, as they protect the kingdom of Camelhot from the evil human Count Jeffrey.
The show parodied various facets of medieval times, having the characters embark on quests to gather historical relics, and encountering mythic and legendary figures of the period along their travels.
It had more than its fair share of slapstick and silliness, but its true genius, lied in its writing, focusing on its ensemble cast and the relationships between them, resulting in a character driven show, inspired by its direct connection to the British comedy group “Monty Python”.
But even in its brilliance, it was not immune to its own challenges, leading to a dramatic overhaul of the show in its second season, changing everything from the art style to the cast, and its comedic emphasis, and is one of the most drastic changes I’ve ever seen a cartoon go through from one year to the next.
It may not be considered the greatest cartoon of all time, but it should be considered the standard for what a great cartoon should strive to be.

This show is criminally underrated. The sheer untapped meme potential alone is astronomical.

Blazing Dragons is amazing! Funny how its cartoon counterpart lasted longer than the video game( which is a Bloody Brilliant Game!!!!) but i truly enjoy! Whether its the characters, the Monty Python-esque humor or the turnaround of Dragons dealing with those pesky humans...im all for it! I abused recording this show from Toon Disney and glad it lives on, on KZbin! Thank you so much for covering one of my favorite comedies!

It really is one of the best ensemble cartoon comedies. I can't think of many shows that had writing as consistently hilarious all the way through (the first season mostly). This one deserves a second life in at least reruns, but I could DEFINITELY see it being rebooted.

I'd say the only cartoon show that could possibly rival this based off of video game would be earthworm Jim about doing a video on that? The showrunners also created Dave the barbarian and it shares the same exact humor right down to Jeff Bennett being narrators to both shows!😂

In the Video Game of Blazing Dragons Terry Jones would lend his voice to Trivet the Court Jester, Sir Burnevere and one of the elderly lady Dragons and Jeff Bennett used a John Cleese impression for Sir Loungealot

Great stuff! I checked out this show a few years ago and unexpectedly loved it. Even though Terry Jones was very minimally involved in the production, the people at Nelvana and Ellipse (the studios that co-produced the show; they also did the Tintin and Babar animated series together) really did a good job of making it feel like something from Monty Python. iirc, Gavin Scott wrote the pilot script, but Nelvana were the ones who gave it the show's sense of humor during script editing. Regarding the show's short-lived nature, I think some of the Nelvana people (such as Larry Jacobs, whom you mentioned) have said that it was mostly because the show had trouble getting into the US market despite doing well in Canada and Europe (where Nelvana and Ellipse are from respectively), which is unfortunately common for western animation produced outside of the States. Toon Disney treated the show pretty badly too, airing it in graveyard slots and censoring some of the more risque jokes (such as Sir Blaze's implied homosexuality). Also, my personal favorite joke from the show is actually in the intro when the dragons sing "we're straight and kind and good and true" and the effeminate, flamboyant Sir Blaze winks at the viewer in the "straight" bit.

The show is SUPER funny! It could be for any number of reasons the show didn't catch on, but I think a show with the sort of dry humor and cleverness rather than over-the-top cartoonishness faves an uphill versus slapstick or zaniness unfortunately. In any case, I'm glad we have two seasons of it!

I've actually been thinking of an idea for a Movie Adaptation of Blazing Dragons But unlike the original show this movie would probably have actual British actors voicing the dragons as i had Freddie Highmore in mind as Flicker but i did make an exception with Anya Taylor Joy in mind for Flame because although American Joy has pulled of a British accent before

It's just such a well-writteb character driven show I can't help but love it. Toon Disney is screenwriter underrated when considering the vast array of cartoons it ran. You can watch "Timon and Pumba", Sonic the Hedgehog, and Pepper Ann all on the same channel? Yes, please!

If this show were brought back, it will have a different creator making it since most reboots are made by different people. Yet, I am not sure how it will be brought back. Though, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa is an obscure cartoon that is being brought back for a reboot thanks to the Nacelle Company. But I don’t how it can be revived and gain enough attention from many fans like with more popular cartoons, such as: Darkwing Duck, Spongebob Squarepants, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. How does a show get rebooted anyway? We would have to spread the show about the cartoon in order to see a comeback of some sort. There was also another show called The Legends of Treasure Island, that is just as great as Blazing Dragons and has a unique animation style and character design. Yet, no one talks about it and is even more obscure than both Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa and Blazing Dragons. I was really hoping to see a comeback of that show, so that it can resolve some cliffhangers, especially from the second season, as well as other cartoons with the same animation style and character design. How can get people to know about the cartoon, as well as give it the recognition it deserves and potentially promote a potential revival or follow-up to the original series, such as a sequel series or a tv special that not only recaps what went on in the show entirely, but also answers some questions that many viewers may had have when watching the show and how they contributed to the overall plot and story derivative to this particular adaptation.

Here's an idea: If Blazing Dragons gets rebooted, with a film, parody Blazing Saddles, but WAY less adult humor (or at least, PG humor, and make it British), but make it be its own film set in Camelhot and the rest of the world, without breaking the fourth wall too heavily. I mean, really, with the conflict between humans and dragons, it's quite perfect, actually. Also, parody the Blazing Saddles theme, but tailor it to this world
