Dabuz and M2K have already said this, but in scenarios where mobility isn’t such a big factor, like at ledge, pyra goes from alright to AMAZING. She gets all of her perks with much less of her drawbacks. Oppressive af in the right scenarios. The aegis is such a freaking cool character and i’m so glad they have the kit they do. Might actually end up being best character in the game.

Feels like, in the right hands, she could be as powerful as Smash 4 Bayo, without actually being as brain-dead and cheap as Smash 4 Bayo. The Aegis will have a really high skill ceiling but those that reach it will see a ton of success. In unrelated news, MKLeo’s gonna pull a massive tournament win streak pretty soon

Agreed. A lot of people tend to evaluate Pyra in a vacuum, or just say “her best move is down b.” However, like you said Pyra shouldn’t really be thought of in terms of how good she is in a vacuum, but how good she is when she’s put in extremely advantageous situations, like when the opponent is offstage or at the ledge. It’s like how ganondorf is a great character at edgeguarding and ledge trapping with nair, but the problem is that he has to play the entire game as ganondorf. Pyra essentially gets to be ganondorf in advantage while being able to play the rest of the game as Mythra, and that’s honestly incredible. Honestly some of her moves like aerials, dair, ftilt, and blazing end are great even in neutral, so it’s not like she’s helpless in neutral. Pyra’s certainly not as good as Mythra, but the fact that you can swap to Pyra when she would be better than Mythra is a huge point for her. She will only get better with time as people learn her setups and when and how to use her properly imo.

Cool concept using the platform to get the Dair follow-up, but saying that spaced Ftilt leads to setplay is a big strech imo (4:00). A Side B follow-up in that situation is very reactable and the opponent's options showcased were very poor ones. I'd even say Pyra would be at a disadvantage for whipping out that Ftilt when the opponent has a ton of options. Rest of the video is godlike though!

It's really cool and worth learning to incorporate into her game, but I think it's too high a commitment to become integral to her game if I'm understanding it correctly in that you need to be close to set this up. Tech away is definitely still the best option here and it seems to get even better with drift away after footstool which hurts it even more. I also don't think Mythra is as far away from Pyra as it might seem. Thanks for the vid!

Great video as per usual! I hope I implement this tech in my play some day. I’d also love to see a video on flame nova (neutral b) which is surprisingly safe on shield. You’re able to move yourself out of shield grab range if your opponent shields it and maybe some other oos options. Since shield drop is 11 frames, it might be very hard to punish if done well. Just a thought!

I swear I did this set up just yesterday & was mind blown at how easy it was! The only difference is I wave landed onto the platform towards center stage, my opponent rolled to center stage, so I just walked off landed next to them & up smash killed. Pyra is crazy!
