Painted my house using the technique.The lift was well worth the cost. Up and down and resetting the ladder was tiring and time consuming, not to mention safety issues. In a previous house, my neighbor, a elderly gentlemen, told me is was using the wrong brush. Brought me a brush that was 6 inches wide and every bit of 2 inches thick. It held paint! A few day later I went to return the brush and an officious looking gentleman with a french-like accent answered the door. He informed me the man and his wife had passed with just a few hours of each other. All of their family was gone as a result of WWII. They didn't really want the brush back. I still think of he and his wife when I use the brush. That said, the brush made short work of the over-brushing. Arm was sore but it worked well. I did learn to rent a bigger lift than I needed. It makes positioning a lot easier. Enjoyed the video!

It's amazing how much money one can save just doing the work yourself. I was quoted $7000+ to have my house rinsed and painted... no scrubbing(commonly needed here in the PNW), no repairs, no priming of cracked paint, no caulking.... just paint... and they wanted extra for the good paint. I spent maybe an hour or two a day for about 2 weeks scrubbing down the house twice, repairing/replacing all of the damaged trim, recaulking around the windows and doors, and priming all of the cracked paint with at least two layers of a high build primer to fill in all the cracks. Then I spent $500 on a decent paint sprayer, bought a bigger ladder so I could reach everything, and bought the best quality paint I could find in the area. It took less than 2 hours to mask off the house and less than 4 hours to paint the house. The results were amazing... I think I only spent $1600 including buying the sprayer and extra paint so I could paint the sheds and have enough left over for touchups on the house.
@robertbrewer21903 ай бұрын
I have not painted for maybe a decade and then I priced high quality house paint. Holy smokes! Tho, a neighbor covered deep, dark blue with on brushed coat of off white! Unbelievable hiding power!
@2nickles6473 ай бұрын
😊..I did the same a couple of years ago. I power washed my house 2 weeks ahead of time. Like you I spent time making minor repairs. I went to the paint store and bought the best paint. The paint store actually let me borrow their sprayer. I was very pleased. Bought all of my supplies from them. Taped windows and away I went. I spent my entire day painting and cleaning up the equipment. To my surprise, my paint job held up and no flaking of paint. But I did use a paint roller to finish up the runs. I'm at the point of another paint marathon. This time, change colors and more minor repairs.

It adds up fast in the PNW. Always having to repair mold, and having to spray zinc sulfate as well on the roof. Not to mention the paint looking dirty every year. You basically need to maintain the paint and roof on a yearly basis.

When we bought our house it needed paint. Our house is an average 2000 square ft 2 story with a front porch. A friend recommended a guy who was a union painter who had a side business. He pressure washed and painted the siding, trim, and shudders three different colors for $5k which was 1/3 less than all of the other quotes I got. I didn’t have the time to do it myself because of moving and my new job. He worked nights and weekends and did an incredible job. It was money well spent, I also hate painting.

I agree, the brushing after spraying is the key to good result. Without brushing you will have just paint flakes flying away after few months
@Boga2173 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. It's quite a situation of what are you painting, have you completely scraped, sanded, primered and sealed the surface? If you've completely prepared the surface then proper spray techniques and it will bond just fine and may actually do more harm in adhesion and finish quality. In John's situation brushing it is actually a good idea because his surface isn't in poor shape needing lots of prep and primer. He can wash, dry, caulk and spray paint but needs the backbrushing to push it into the pores and promote adhesion.

In 2001 I painted my 2 story garrison colonial that was way overdue for paint. I took a 2 weeks off, rented a pressure washer (to remove really old paint) and got a similar (Graco) sprayer (from home depot). Having never done this kind of painting before, I used my shed as a guinea pig, and figured out a technique. Then I tackled the house. I stripped the very old paint almost completely off with the pressure washer. Spent 2 days doing 2 coats of primer (the wood really soaked up that first coat). Then spent another 2 days doing the color coat and hand painting the window/door trim. A real learning experience. Got way too comfortable going up and down ladders that summer. The results were awesome & I got lots of compliments. Very satisfying project.

They also had a Genie boom lift -nothing like yours- which afforded them the same lack of need to move ladders.
