I swear to god, I re-watched GotG 1 and then watched GotG 2 for the first time, holding off because I thought it would be a movie about baby groot with a cheap laugh here and there, but it turns out, the movie is actually fantastic. In the last month, I watched it from beginning-to-end at least 7 times, mostly for the music, badass scenes, and Rocket's emotional backstory. I never thought I would see a GotG 2 reference here, so that's pretty cool haha

This writing is so good. You can tell there's history behind his father's hate. He was angry but he really believed he was teaching BJ to be a man. It's probably exactly how his grandfather raised his dad. These scenes depict the cycle of violence that perpetuates itself through a culture of violence

You know how Harry Potter fans often have more visceral hatred for Umbridge than Voldemort? I agree with the idea that it’s because a lot of us have met an Umbridge. It’s a very familiar evil. We know firsthand how it manifests in mundane day to day life with them, not just huge atrocities that are difficult to grapple with the scale of emotionally. I know everyone compares shit to HP but it seems appropriate given that was a clumsy wizard nazi allegory and a pawn, and this is a literal nazi and a pawn. I know frau engels exist out there, but I sure as fuck haven’t met any. I know several people who bear an uncanny resemblance to BJ’s dad in a lot of ways. Even some of the most extreme shit he does. It’s easier to imagine, and the Engels couldn’t pull off the scale of the things they do without the Rips. Lets just say I could flinch my way through the Engel scenes, but had to put the game down at the Bessie scene and just watch a let’s play to get the rest. It wasn’t worth it. Rip is much closer to home.

I think BJ was looking for any reason to spare his father's life. -He traumatized him -He killed his dog -He beat him and berated him -He killed his mother -He points a gun at his son -AND he insults his fashion sense The last nail in the coffin for Rip was him trying to instill the same kind of fear into BJ as he did in 1920. Problem was, Rip is probably responsible for making the killing machine we play as this day. Patricide is a crime based in mankind's world, but was ultimately vindictively excused in a manner which felt all sorts of right.

Man, the voice acting and shit they did was great. Got to say, this scene hit me on a personal level. I had a dad that disowned me and treated me like shit until I moved away with my sister. It's crazy how games can connect with people sometimes.

Best voice acting in a video game EVER the greatest dialogue I’ve ever seen. “You know what I feel now? Not a god damn thing”. There’s been a lot of bad ass sayings in gaming but MAN that’s pretty gangster

I am no supporter of the Nazis, never have, never will. But I have sympathy for Soldiers being scared for his/her life, good or bad. Another example would be if a this happened to a Stormtrooper (which by the way are literally space Nazis), I would feel sorry for him/her. This isn't anything to do with him being a Nazi.
