Yoshihiro Kano was definitely the most missed. His cuts in cour 1 were fantastic. That Ichigo vs Yhwach fight from episode 7 still amazes me. And sadly it does seem that there were production issues for the last episode. Still enjoyed it because I love the art, the lightning, the music and atmosphere. Especially how on-model the art looks to the manga. And of course I love the story which the anime is doing a wonderful job at expanding from the manga.

I'm the biggest Bleach fan and I feel like this cour was a succes. Yes, I too was slightly dissapointed, expecting more from animation and at least one ep matching the quality of Yama vs Yhwach, but that didn't happen. The finale was absolutely amazing and I loved every second of it, but some more quality cuts would have made it even better. Kenny v Gremmy was also quite solid, but yeah, none of it was on the Yama v Yhwach lvl, sadly. I'm hoping for better things to come in cour 3, but even if it happens to be similar in animation quality to the 2 previous cours, I'll still be very happy. Also, I'm hoping that Bluray will feature some cleaned up scenes, again.

Couldn’t agree more, this cour was awesome but I won’t lie that I was a little bit disappointed that there wasn’t a episode to the level of ep 6, but I would have to assume the studio is doing the best they can with the time and skills they have.

I love bleach but just focused on the story now. Lets be real. People want it every season but they need more time and more fight animators. Its like a bad season in basketball. You don't have the team to win the season. This is why I'm happy mappa is taking their time with AOT. People hate on JJK and bleach was way worst but they hype Bleach due to nostalgia. That said their all great and I focus again on story and if the fights are above average its ok. It's not deadly sins or shaman king 2022 bad.

@@catlike9444 Yeah, overall the industry is at risk of imploding. Even with one thing on their plate some animation studios struggle to match the high expectations as people cry if they even do CGI like in chainsawman when it was pretty good. So now in jjk I see a lot of background character static shots which is fine, cause they had to draw a lot but i'd be ok with CGI people but people would complain and they likely don't even have enough time to do CGI hence why they just drew static shots. Overall their coasting on their talented team being able to draw so fast and work hard and their outsorcing etc. Zombie 100 was a single work and that studio fell to the demands for a short series...I'm just saying animation is hard and I agree finding a way to give animators more time and being respectful is the answer not sending death threats or complaining without constructive criticism and by that I mean not going on their twitter to say your show is mid trash etc. and using a clip of bad animation among tons of good stuff the person ignored.

HARDCORE Bleach fan here. Also an animator and I totally agree. The character art consistently looked very good and I think that's actually one of the reasons the animation was minimal. It takes a fair bit of time to clean up and add lighting to such detailed drawings.

I had the same thoughts with the compositing, I didn't like the big reishi attacks and lots of smoke and explosions didn't need it for the most part, besides Rukia's bankai other attacks felt too bright, I have been enjoying the direction lots of awesome shots, I was waiting for a more movement but as disappointed as I was at the lack of it, I still enjoyed this season. This was a nice video that brought up both positives and negatives of the cour, nice vid👍

I wouldn't bash the composting as entirely negative. Imo, it did help compensate for the lack of movement in certain scenes.but....I do agree that the animation effects, especially for the quinces, appear excessively bright and can be somewhat jarring in certain situations.but i wouldn't call it 'visual vomit'

By the way, 1: the 4 kon minutes should've been almighty and tensai futatsuryu 2: they were planning to end the match with Ichibe’s loss, even the name of the last episode was “A.” Then, when the weeks approached the last episode, they called it “Black,” meaning they intended to adapt Ichibe’s defeat, but the time (schedule) was not enough for them, too. 3: They released a simple trailer for the third core, in which the almighty is animated and composoted. The duration of the pruduction was not enough for them.

I couldn't agree more in regards to the animation. I still enjoyed the core immensely, but mostly because I really like bleach as a story, which made the creative storyboarding, strong drawings and direction enough to carry me through. Also very glad for the awesome anime only additions and rearrangements. Could be better, but it still feels so good to have bleach back.

Watching stuff like Frieren its infuriating how that show gets sublime directing and animation but a legendary show like Bleach gets a mediocre treatment they really should have simplified the designs a bit and chill on the compositing especially for the power effects. TYBW feels like a big step down from Fullbrings anime adaptation which did what it did a lot better

Why would they go through the trouble of creating a whole new section in their studio (PIERROT FILMS) just so that they can enhance the quality of animation of bleach tybw? Stop with the cap, the simple answer for bleach's avg animation is the lack of talent working on it, studio pierrot have fell form grace a long time ago so it doesn't have as much connections as other big animation studios like ufotable or mappa, hence lack of talent, plus the lack of time also don't help, so yeah they do care about bleach bruh let's not forget that it one of the most influential shows out their and is a pretty big franchise with fans all across the world and they're making a hell lot of money out of every cour, plus just a little side note the way studio pierrot is going about animating bleach tybw is way different than other shows like jjk or demon slayer they want bleach tybw to have peak art quality and want to like glorify Kubo's artstyle, and lemme tell you Kubo's artstyle is way harder to work on than any other new gen shonen out there so that could be the reason for "lack" of animation, they just going about it in a different way than what most people want dk if thats good or not but so far with few complaints i don't have much problem with it since they're also adding a hell lot of anime original content am happy with the production i don't care what anybody else think about it or think that it's "mid", am happy

It’s a shame that old Bleach animation peaks are better than TYBW anime. Even certain fights in the Zanpakuto Rebellion filler arc and especially the Reigai filler arc had better animation and choreography than TYBW so far, outside of episode 6 & 7. Literally filler fights 10+ years ago look better than TYBW anime is doing. They lied about “better animation.” I love that my fav anime series is back, but having most fights be blitzed through with hardly any choreography and smooth animation is beyond disappointing. I love the new additions and the story of TYBW is a masterpiece, especially with the added content fleshing it out more, however this is an ANIME, I want to see the fights be done justice and for it to be actually ANIMATED.

It's mostly due to 1 episode fights, there is no breathing room. Their entire concern is about cramming everything instead of making it 4-5 episodes per fight like it was past arcs, this hurts the characters even more since most anime watchers are not invested in the star knights. It's good thing the next cour will force them to focus on the remaining 5 and uryu.

This is very biased breakdown, first off you are only showcasing "fight animation" which cour 2 had more of compared to cour 1 which means you get a lot more action animating in general. I can agree the Peaks were not as high compared to cour 1 with stuff like yamamoto, it was instead more decent good animaton spread over everything else. You are comparing only "fight animation" while the gesturing and non-combat stuff were better animated this cour compared to previous. Also in general its hard to estimate who does who when you have many artist working on the same frame and this meatriding Yoshihiro Kanno stuff is cringe considering you can't measure up animators "skill" like that. When upcoming animators and certain animators feel like they are in the zone they can push stuff to the same capacity. Just take Ryan White (Retro Ryno) who single handly animated beforehand TYBW cour 1 before the offical TYBW, they hired him and took a lot of references from his stuff. So how was a fan animation from a random youtuber years ago have the same level of skills than veteran animators in the industry? It means it comes down to time management rather than "skills" because when you already in the industry you know how to pull off good animation in general. 6:48 that is a manga panel shot so ofcourse you are going to see straight in to the effects, and ofcourse you are being hyperbolic because you are not staring much on these effects to begin with, you want dimming on this? Ufotable had epilepsy effects which people took issue with and even then there is Blu-ray coming up so these composition "errors" you talk about might get tuned down. This seems more like nitpicking than "disappointing" as animation is not everything in an anime, when you have story, music, narrative, etc.

Honestly, I just wanted you to talk about bleach a little. I felt that most of the sequences were pretty stiff with little movement and that was pretty clear in many of the fights and your videos are very informative on that stuff. Can't say I was dissapointed with the show story wise coz I found it to be good, but the animation department was really lacklustre. Anyway, thanks for making this video. At least we now know why that was and maybe hope for some improvement for the next cour.

Good video. I agree with most of the points. Action animation and animation overall was pretty lacking. But I liked the direction and storyboards better this time around. There was a ton of visual storytelling and small moments which will be reincorporated later on. Yes some compositing and effects(like the one you showed of Candice using her main attack, and star smash from mask, etc) were too much but overall I think it was fine for me. I loved the episode 25 ending with Yhwach activating Auswahlen. Those effects were pretty great imo. But as you said, it's subjective. Drawings were great as always with very few misses. And overall, it looked good. Maybe it didn't move well. But I felt satisfied overall(8/10 for me). And I think many Bleach fans feel the same cause art is one of the major reasons Bleach is even popular(both anime and manga). I can see why they would prioritize that over movement(and they didn't have enough talent to have both consistently from what I know). And for most of the manga fans, addition of new content that the author couldn't put in the manga because of health reasons, is enough to be satisfied. Like Senjumaru's bankai and other stuff. So yeah I guess for some it is disappointing(which is fair) and for some it is satisfactory. Excited for next Jjk video cause I have heard good things about tomorrow's episode.

After looking at all that praise regarding the animation i needed some voice of reason to check if everything is ok with me. We have some heavy hitters recently, AoTS4, JJK, Frieren, Trigun (even thought it's CGI) or recent Solo leveling moves nice, and then you have Bleach. A pretty big name, grand return and they barely can do more then a few seconds of movement per episode (if any at all). Seems like moving seasonal doesn't mean it's actually guaranteed to get a better names on the project with better schedule. The direction is really poor, who's at fault here? I remember the old anime was more packed up, considering how many episodes they needed to put out during weekly schedule you have some long lasting nice fights then that quick glimpses of sakuga that doesn't even stay with you for long, and then you return into the stiffness. The pacing is pretty big problem, they seem to immidiately run out onto another scene. The overusage of visual effects is clearly too visible, as you have said already in the video, they are like a kid that have new toy to use and just throw away anything else and play with that one forgetting about the rest. Good video mate.

Probably not, Blu rays generally remove ghosting/dimming/censorship, or fix continuity errors and off model drawings (occasionally). Blu rays rarely re animate entire scenes. They can tweak the compositing a bit tho, but they probably won't.

As a blech fan and someone who didn't have much issues with tybw cour 1, even I found this cour disappointing. For starters, this cour was mostly filled with fights that weren't even that interesting (aside from a few), the animation should've done it's part to make them at least interesting to "look at" but they failed their as well. I literally watched the last episode in 4 sittings.

Completely agree. I don't know why bleach fans pretend the animation is good. This cour was definitely good for a few reasons but animation isn't one of them. People also say it's consistent. That's not a feat they think it is. It was consistent, consistently mediocre and underwhelming that is (with some exceptions). All I'm hopping for BLEACH is a 8 months break so the staff can have a better schedule, because the way cour 2 ended speaks for itself unfortunately... They only had a 6 months break for the ptoduction of the 2nd cour, that's way too short... The layouts for cour 2 started at early november and december 2022 but at this time almost the entirety of the staff were working on the 1st cour. Cour 2 didn't reach the hights of cour 1 (ep 6), but it also didn't reach its lows either (ep 3), so I would say there is a good upgrade on the average animation consistency and direction, but there is indeed a lack of action animators... Now don't get me wrong when the action animation was present it was some of the best it is really good but the void that Yoshihiro Kanno left is really huge, plus Taguchi the director lacks the connections with veterants since he isn't an animator himself and he wasn't present that much for this cour. On top that, BLEACH has hight requirements for great visuals and strong arts that makes it difficult for action animators to work on the project, this also can make working on BLEACH seems unappealing to some animators, some of them were even fired form the project for not meeting these requirements and standards of prodution because the animation directors would spend too much time correcting certain scenes and cuts BLEACH may not have the sheer manpower/freelancers of a ONE-PIECE or the talents/veterants of a MAPPA project but it's certainly being something of its own, and almost 99% of everything is being produced in-house at Pierrot and not outsourced like BORUTO or BLACK CLOVER. I think they're doing good a bit disappointed but Iv'e enjoyed this cour so far, I'll lower expectations for cour 3. By the way I think your takes on the effects for the last episodes are pretty bad in my opinion 😅

Kinda ironic how even one piece, a long running anime had more frequent sakuga than a seasonal-cour anime like Tybw... But yeah this adaptation is definitely pretty solid but lacking in choreography animation, which is sad because this had so much potential. Kinda wish that we got at least one fight from every cour with full 2 or 3 minutes of pure sakuga fights, just like luffy vs kaido from 1074..

It may be controversial to say but both the projects have different priorities. Toei just has access to more animators and its the fact. Bleach as a series isn't actually a sakuga show and since kubo is involved I think the director is trying to keep more consistent art style instead of heavy sakuga animation while One piece characters with thick outlines are much more easier to draw and as aresult the inconsistency in art style is barely noticeable and has heavy sakuga.

personally for me one piece have sakuga moments sometime but overall it is not consistent, only the hype moments are very well animated but the other fights aren't well animated, one piece has a very slow pacing too with a lot of flash back

I would say that this part was much more consistent than the first part, but damn, the sacrifice in the action scenes is too noticeable if we compare with the first part, very little animation or a very rigid, simple choreography, even for the original parts, and a overload of effects, for just a few moments of fluidity, it seems that you can't have both things at the same time(Art and animation), and this is without going into the story, honestly the first part was much better in that aspect, and I don't consider that part to be outstanding either.

I would say the animation was good enough, not an upgrade from cour 1 but not an downgrade either. And unfortunately Tomohisa Taguchi can only do so much, even if Taguchi wants good animators to work on bleach he needs to get those approved from studio pierrot. And if studio pierrot declines his request then he can only work with the animators he has available. So I can't blame him for the animation,instead I'm happy with the direction of the storyboard, the added scence and making the story more deeper. On top of that most animators handling death threats and negative comments from all the people and working with such a tight schedule. I'm happy it turned out the way it was and I know most people won't understand this, but that's how it is.

I agree with all of your points. My biggest disappointment of the whole TYBW anime (not just Part 2) was Renji Vs Mask de Masculine. That was one of my most anticipated fights to see animated, but it was terrible imo. From lackluster animation most of the time, multiple scenes where the whole screen was Mask's face (so they could make it easier to animate the episode), massive cuts for the fight and weak/weird "Number One" remix for the end of the fight... I wanted to come out of the episode happy and hyped up, but all I felt was disappointment and burn-out. People just really can't handle criticism towards TYBW because of the massive wait for the anime (10 years). They want to believe it's amazing, and I want to as well, but I just can't lie to myself like that. The art is great, but anime isn't a slideshow of pretty pictures, it's supposed to be ANIMATED, which it isn't due to the massive strain of the art requirements which alienate many freelance animators from wanting to work on TYBW... 😢

I think one of the reasons it lacks movement is because of the way the characters itself is drawn. Compared to the OG Bleach the detailing on this one is too much, like the lighting (especially with the red and blue aesthetic), shadows, etc. When I look at the character drawings it feels... heavy? Idk how to describe it properly or the right term for it, but that's the best I could say it. I know it's to match Kubo's art style, but the character design is still the same as OG Bleach, but even then OG Bleach especially the Fullbring and some filler arc had some awesome animations while still retaining Kubo's art style.

So, I haven't watched bleach. Watched the video coz wanted to see your analysis. From whatever discussion I have seen, people generally like this arc as a whole. And from what I have seen in the video, the show looks "good". The thing that baffles me the most is the fact that I have seen the same people criticising JJK, which is among the best-looking and animated shows. The point i am making isn't necessarily about the Fandom wars. Its more about what people percieve as good animation. "Visual Vomit" is the term that describes it the best. "Hmm... there is so much happening in the screen...it must be good". For most, good looking > good moving, which is like...the antithesis of animation. Strong drawing+too much compositing+decent art+camera rotation shot(even if it's not great) = Peak sakuga. Character acting, art design, clarity of action sequences all these are still unappreciated. Fans really do want a slideshow of coloured manga panel.

I'm not mad, but I really did expect more and it does irritate me fanboys are trying to distract away from the lackluster animation. I think the main reason for the disappointment is because our standards for the action of cour 2 was set very high, especially since cour 2 was heavily action based, visually it was pleasing but the choreography didn't hit as hard cour 1 because they used a lot of still shots. I genuinely enjoyed cour 2 because of the anime only content and visuals

Ichibei was yhwach was fumbled in the anime because they kept going back and forth between other squad member's fight but in the manga it was uninterrupted and felt much better and well paced but the anime made it seem like a normal fight don't get me wrong the animation was still great but it wasn't yama vs yhwach level things just weren't well executed as I thought would be. It should have been a single high budget animated episode with complete fight without skipping the Almighty scene

I definitely think the major problem with bleach is the studio behind it, perriot is no longer the same as it was in the early 2000’s it can’t even deliver 4 episodes of Naruto on schedule and that’s with 2 of its other major projects not airing at the same time (black clover and Boruto) I definitely think art is the MAJOR priority for bleach, they’re trying to emulate Kubo’s art and style as much as possible but that also means that what the studio is looking for is more consistent art animators rather than fluid focused animators, but as a fan I still love it flaws and all

Bro as he said that it varies from person to person. The auswahlen scene was indeed very good but the overall compositing was simply not something that I like. Over flashy most of the times and the main reason why the compositing looked good was because of strong drawings and decent CG backgrounds. Many people prefer lighter compositing with minimal filters like the reigai and fullbring arc had. The composited effects looked very out of the place, especially the red ones maybe because of the red background.

6:47 Finally someone said it. They throw a f-ton of sparkle effects and patterns into the Quincies powers and the Hollows Ceros that make them look over designed and ugly, "Visual Vomit" is apt. Don't even get me started on what they did to Auswählen. Mangas almost always look better, but this is a different matter, the OG Bleach anime didn't have these Issues because they knew what to focus on, here we are banking on flashy colours and sparkle Filters flash banging us till we can't see no more, distracting from the fact that this is where the budget went instead of Animation and Cleanup. The Animators can do better, it's the person directing and shipping this out as "fine" who's to blame here I guess. And no it's not Kubo, he barely has a say in the creation process nor what scenes make the cut, he was very sad that gags like the Orihime bit with Yoruichi didn't make it in. Thinking about it, this is what the anime might need, it's progressing too fast, it's more of a fight compilation than the Manga Adaptation and they clearly can't handle it. They'd need the patience to take it slow like the OG did, gags and other cut content elevate the pressure Animators face when constantly jumping from Fight to Fight. Edit: Don‘t know the animators in depth, but heard what you said about em a lot recently, just 1 or 2 people being absent has made a very noticable difference in the Episodes of each Cour.

Also CGI is ugly af. If you meant the manga‘s writing, yeah, still think it‘s better so far because there is more to Bleach than just constant fighting, a lot of Interactions were cut from the Manga. 0 Squad still hasn‘t had enough screentime and hope we see more of them in cour 3, making the whole Bloodpact bit just another Illusion of sorts. The fights feel short in general, they barely added anything in TYBW and what they added was disappointing when you see what the OG anime has managed to add, Komamura vs Barragans Fraction was just a single punch in the Manga and they made it an entire fist fight with Komamura flexing by completely shrugging of a giant Cero like a light breeze. The only really good addition was Unohanas fight, which still had little good animation, and Byakuya showing off more Hakuda. And before you say it, Loops and slow-mo ≠ good Animation

yah i get these critiques and i felt the same for most of what you're saying, but Im not too concerned about it. This entire season was nothing but fights and most weren't that important to the plot to begin with so it makes sense why they didn't put as much effort into it. Sorry, I can’t bring myself to watch the whole video (doesn’t matter if it deserves it, watching something I love get heavily criticized/hated on just isn’t fun), but if the animation truly is “mid”, I don’t care. Doesn’t change the fact that this is still the most visually appealing anime I’ve ever seen. And as far as I can tell, while we never reached the heights of cour 1, the quality was much more consistent and better OVERALL. So yeah, this was not disappointing to me. I never expected sakuga all throughout.

@@JustAsh001 Also, it's better after i rewatched it a few times, you know why? Because some of the sequences were so abrupt that i didn't notice it watching a first time. They have problem with consistently conveying the momentum on the animation, and some of the dodges or slashes that should get more fluid and take longer to have some impact were chopped down and put fast forward. So it kinda gets better after rewatching but in this case it doesn't make it actually good, those type of things only expose the flaws of the animation in this show.

Actually I don't want to become someone who comments everywhere but i think this was obvious that they didn't gone for addition in fights for existing things in manga and they actually gave additional fight of squad 0 and many additional scenes of ichigo in iraso sando place, but the point is that they are actually extending things for cour 3 and 4 to extend fight and like they might show the Quincy backstory extended and in trailer there was ichimonji flying towards almighty yhwach so they are really gonna do extend things cause now they have some space

If u give jjk bleach tier art but give it the sds treatment in animation, most people would drop tge series despite the art. If u give jjk mob psycho art, but mob psycho lvl animation, the only hate would be people dickriding season 1, but a lot of people wouldn't drop the series unless they judge it based on the trailer.
