I think Lillie meant that Nanao's zanpakuto ability makes him believe he is not a god, but a messenger of a god. He underestimated what Nanao said, and after the attack was reflected, he accepted his death, but at the same time, I guess he was shocked. In the end, he finally realized how incredibly OP he is and that he possesses a god's power.

You know what really got me with this episode? The way Lille's eyes kept rapidly blinking asynchronously. I don’t know if it was unclear but Shunsui is Nanao’s uncle. I kind of wish they directly called him as such because I didn’t catch that when I read this chapter until later.

The nanao zanpakuto is admittedly a deus ex but when you look at how thar effected the relationship between shunsui and nanao, it definitely seems like it was worth it

I thought so too... even since the manga... but i read that apparently (no idea where that was. maybe Twitter. maybe YT. Maybe Reddit...) Nanaos name is like a staple for shrine priests. So her having something against a "god" makes sense to Japanese viewers and was even expected. It's like having a guy named Pendragon in your story and most western viewers would not be suprised when he would get a sword named Excalibur at some point in the Story. Could it have been foreshadowed more? definetly... but it seems like this is more of a missing knowledge of cultural mythology on our end than an actual deus ex.

@Frankenhexe100 true I have seen that. From a western perspective it's seen as a deus ex b/c of the cultural difference. Ik how subtle kubo is with his foreshadowing but I think it would be recieved better if it was atleast mentioned before. Kinda like how squad 0 was mentioned in turn back the pendulum and they appear in TYBW

If you look back to Senjumaru's Bankai we can see that she defeated Lille Barro by reflecting his own attacks. Also Shinken Hakkyoken translates to Eight Mirror Sword and there were eight mirrors in the dome that Senjumaru put Lille in. Similarly, Pernida was engulfed by black soil. Black soil in Japanese means Kurotsuchi. And Mayuri Kurotsuchi was the one who defeated Pernida in the end. So there's a theory that Senjumaru's Bankai is a reality weaving Bankai. Also Shunsui was told that he wouldn't run into the curse by hiding the sword anymore but that wasn't the case. He lost his mentor or father figure in Yamamoto, colleague in Unohana and a friend in Ukitake. Also there's a theory that this Shinken Hakkyoken is the sword used to dismember the Soul King. That's why Central 46 was quick to execute Nanao's mother.

We're getting more episodes. This Cour is 14 episodes as a sorta "apology" for cutting the last cour short. Apparently the first episode was supposed to be the finale of the last cour, but they ended up not having enough space to fit it in.

I have to agree. From an outside perspective it is messed up, but in the context of the world of Bleach it is just little things. Central 46 would not let him do anything too horrendous. There are laws in the Soul Society for that stuff. Some of Mayuri's biggest offenses are issuing corporal punishment on Nemu, and storing poisons and other things in her body. Nemu is also still a soul reaper. She is a lieutenant and scientist just like Mayuri. She has experimented on creatures and people just like Mayuri. I don't think she herself considers using her own body as a test subject to be a big deal when pretty much everyone in the Department of Research and Development does the same.

They are different. Jinta Hanakari and Ururu Tsumugiya are Modified Soul, as same as Kon. they more like LMD. Nemuri is a real person(soul) create form nothing

Shinken Hakkyōken is the only sword which can confront gods and reflect theirs powers, the five nobles use it to cut Soul King in pieces thousands of years ago. that's why it so important and Nanao's mother must be executed when she lost it

13:35 well we know for sure that Byakuya went from teenager to early 30s?? adult in about 60 years from TBTP and so did Gin because they were promoted at similar times. Meanwhile Yamamoto, Unohana and Sasakibe are about 2000+ years old. And we had adult captains that we’ve seen grow up under a millennia like Ukitake, Jushiro and Zaraki who are all 200+ at least. so my guess is a soul reapers average lifespan is at least 200 years given you’re strong enough and could last at least 2000 if not more since we see that old guy captain in the flashback of Cour 1 and he looked ancient compared to Yamamoto😂😂😂. Don’t remember if Kubo had stated anything but I will look it up later
