It’s things like this are why I wish the anime didn’t split up the Pernida and Lille fight. You lose context, foreshadowing, and set up. It’s been 2 weeks now since part 1 of this fight, and in the manga this fight goes for a whole volume uninterrupted. They should have made this fight two episodes back to back and THEN Shunsui’s fight, because too much time in between ruins the momentum imo.

The way I view it, Mayuri absolutely cares about Nemu, but he is the type to not show compassion or be sentimental at all. He’s a scientist to a fault. It’s f’d up, but the way he treats Nemu is due to him believing in her. No matter what happens to her or how he treats her, he believes she can handle anything because she is his greatest creation. I think it’s interesting that Mayuri implants these different drugs and organs into Nemu, but not into himself. Sure it’s a way for him to experiment on her, but in my opinion, it’s his twisted way of protecting her by giving her these things that would help only her, like the organ that helps her cells regenerate or the drug that affected Szayalapporo when he invaded her body.

I love how he calls it Project Nemuri (As in, Project Dream) so Nemu is essentially his dream. And the episode title ties back with that so well where he's in a never-ending dream when he's with her :')))

He didn’t even use her as a meat shield vs uryu lol. Nemu acted all on her own there as well. Mayuri poisoned her by accident & cut her in half. Didn’t give her any medical aid. Because he knew “the body that he created” could NEVER die from something so weak.

​@@pitoseavy4523 no one is justifying anything, this is literally the reason he got upset at Nemu and told her "you're not allowed to die" "your mission is to grow" the episode literally spoonfeeds you this information. how do you not understand? the "Szayel" that appeared in his mind was his own thoughts criticizing himself for actually believing Nemu was perfect. That's how he genuinely felt. He just deluded himself into thinking she actually was perfect and could handle anything and would never die because she was his masterpiece, until Pernida threatened that security. No one is justifying Mayuri's actions. No one is saying this small semblance of vulnerability and humanity he shows makes up for all the war crimes and abuse and terrible things he's done. No one is saying he's redeemed or anything. Mayuri is a beloved character for the same reason people like characters such as Aizen or Griffith or Makima or Kenjaku or Endeavor etc despite their horrible actions. Mayuri is an amazing and complex character.

The reason why he sacrifice Nemu on that Uryu fight, because he can restore her back because his plan was to cut half both Uryu and her. In this fight her body just being blasted and destroyed by Pernida which he cannot restore (aside of cerebrum)

Mayuri did say to Uryu in his fight that his creation wouldn't die from this. So if she died from him stabbing her he would consider her a failure at that point. But Pernidas attacks would be to much for her so he is concerned in this case.

Ok this relation needs to be explained. Mayuri is a scientist, he loves his creation and knows their capability. In the early Bleach against Uryu, Nemu says she might not survive the poison. As a scientist thats like disrespectful cause you know their limits and they cant be that weak. For eg. if you taught your child how to count, and when hes 10 he cant even count upto 100 which he should be, then you would be slightly angered that you know what your child is capable of but he doesnt/ cant do that. 2nd, Mayuri cares for Nemu, as seen her death literally affected him to be depressed and sad. Mayuri confirms this by saying "It took a pseudo-scientist to remind be how to be a scientist". Also Mayuri mostly never lets Nemu fight at all, he always told her to not move until i ask for help(stated by nemu as well in episode 34 of TYBW), only one instance was in SS arc against Uryu(In arrancar arc she was just captured by Szayellaporro). So as a Scientist you always care for your creation for eg. Robots, but you are constantly stressed and when your creation underestimate itself, then it will make you at least a little mad cause you know that it could do it its capable but doesnt. Thats the relation between a scientist and its creation. And Nemu is not just a clone of anything, shes the first you could say the original one who was able to survive the limits of an ordinary artificial soul aka 2 years. Hence you could say shes the first and from now on if there were more, they would be clones of Nemus soul you could say.

Him not calling her Nemuri no.7 means she is no longer an "experiment" in his eyes. He firmly believes he succeeded and that there is no point in labeling her like he would a jar with samples. So he considers her a person to some degree and not a prototype anymore.

This was definitely my favourite episode of part 3 from Nemu's glow up, then blow up, the music was just next level amazing, then Mayuri and Nemu's relationship expanded upon and shown more for the better of both of them. Such a great fight and end to it plus the after credit scenes were awesome.

Nemu's death is so uncomfortable to watch. It's great character growth for her and Mayuri, but I feel bad for her, not for him. Fun fact: The Femritters showing up at the arena, Candice and Meninas being zombies, and the Quincy soldiers carrying Yhwach's eyes are all anime original. I really have no idea what they're gonna do now ngl, and I like that :D

An important detail that is important to the story is that Mr Hat and Clogs has created his own artificial souls in the two kids at his house. That means mayuri still lose to him in the science aspect. Also, there will be a new Nemu as a kid after the war is over. When I think of mayuri in bleach, I think of orchimarun from bleach.

Maiyuri and Nemu’s father/daughter relationship is like watching aliens interact He was COMPLETELY abusing her back in Soul Society but the same time she trusted and understood how he worked despite that, and Maiyuri may not say it but trusts Nemu in return treating her weirdly more and more equally as the series continues less abuse until Nemu eventually takes action on her own here His dream was to raise life from nothing, it was for science but became someone who takes in his own traits, to evolve, it’s his child. A bizarre relationship but only when she was gone Maiyuri finally realized he cared for his daughter This is really a: “Dad: “I don’t want a daughter” Dad and the Daughter:” Moment 😭

He used his ashizogi gezo on her during the fight with ishida which only paralyses people, and neither he or her are affected by his poison. It doesn't harm her in any way. Both are not in human lvls and does not think like human beings. He definitely cared for her, but she was built by him like a tank and she being a tank is his pride. I know for women's brain the intent is more important than the practical action and consequence, I understand that. However, understand he or she is not and does not think like humans (forget human woman's sensibilities. ) Kubo's writing has always been beyond a lot of people.😂 Some reviewers say "oh Mayuri loved her in his own twisted way". Even that is wrong, because thats how living beings care, only think that is twisted are the prism of human morals , which are mostly an act at best or virtue signaling & white knighting in its worst . Thats why Mayuri is considered the best of bleach charector and the favourite of kubo.

Goodbye to my babygirl Nemu 😥 Now, what you can take from this episode regarding Mayuri i would say, is that he had a heart, a soft spot for his daughter and dream, he was not the best Father yes but he was a father after all. Szaylaporo hallucinations was a coping mechanism of his brain to restore the facade of a scientist that was for a fleeting moment broken exposing his feeling.

Mayuri genuinely did care about Nemu I think its undebatable to say otherwise, I mean look at the flashback images she was given things to play with areas to grow seemingly grew up around some of the other lab members(including the GOAT, almost like an older brother Akon), and as messed up as the way Mayuri treats her throughout the series(with the exception of that very first fight in soul society imo as Kubo was def going a more dark route with him initially then switched his story, for the better imo.) he never puts her into something he thinks she shouldn't survive. Is Mayuri a monster? Yes Does he care about Nemu? Also Yes Also it's not a genuine mistreatment from the other Gotei 13 members it's just genuine confusion. Yumichika and Ikkaku just genuinely find it weird that she was talking so much because she previously hadn't and it would be previously unheard of that a mod soul would evolve and change on its own like that, they weren't being mean or telling her to shut up just actually surprised that she evolved. Nemu is being considered to be the next vice-president of the Shinigami Women's Association(which Yachiru is the head of by the way) so she is actually quite liked by most of the Gotei 13. The only person we really see mistreating Nemu terribly is Mayuri from what I remember.

To be fair, Nemu has been attending Female Shinigami Association and enjoy her life with other people. Obviously, Mayuri allowed her to join the group. Mayuri is a complicated character. He is definitely an evil mad scientist and at the same time, Nemu's father. The both sides wish Nemu's growing in the end.

Rather than father and daughter imo their relationship is more like she is mayuri's greatest creation so he is usually very confident when he orders her cuz he calculates she can withstand that much. Incase of pernida even 1 blow was fatal(as you saw) so he didnt order her, but she puts mayuri before herself so she jumped on her own to protect mayuri this time(again the same reason that how much of a threat pernida was)

Mayuri for me, is typical abusal parenting trope in Asian culture. Where they don't want their child to die, but they will do anything abusive for them to grow as in his knowledge ,they can overcome that. Overcontrolling , talk back and non-appreciative remark also indications of that trope. And i believe Nemu is not growing alone in the lab, cause Akon ,Kuna and a few other R&D assistant always in the lab, observing hollow radar, dangai, sutra scale and all that. She only lacks of fatherly presence in her childhood. Also why small Nemu so concerned about Mayuri didn't called her Nanago? Cause Nanago has cute intonation to it, plus in Jp , calling a person's last name shows closeness or familiarity.

yeah you kinda hit the nail on the head with your analysis. only correction is that mayuri did care about nemu beyond his scientific dreams. He just can't admit it. But you got it better than a lot of bleach fans which is that mayuri is not a sympathetic character at all and it makes no sense to feel bad for him. Nemu is the tragic one here. All sympathy to her she deserved better than mayuri who abused her so much. The issue is that mayuri is kubo's fave character and no author can write their fav characters that well. They always give them too much special treatment at the detriment of other characters. For other authors they get away with it a bit better cause their favs will be main characters or popular characters so people let it slide. Mayuri has been less evil and bad to nemu since he beecame a "good guy" cause kubo knows he wouldn't be able to get away with all the stuff he did before. But issue is he made him way too terrible in soul society arc. So much that it becomes hard to forget or ignore. It ruins the nemu flashback a bit. It does lead to a really fascinating feeling though where you aren't really sure how to feel. So its an interesting moment for that alone.Theres more to say but you can go on forever talking about this moment.

Thats why idiots were going off at them for not liking askin even though people didn't like askin at this point yet in the manga cause he hadn't done anything. Just saying he killed off thousands of souls is not the same as showing him torturing people and gloating about it. In soul society kubo literally gave a backstory to a random soul reaper nobody just so we would feel worse for him when he got blown up as a bomb. Meticulously crafted to be as evil as possible. It's show not tell. Not to mention he expunged those souls to preserve the balance it wasn't evil at all. Only necessary.
