LYRICS
To the tempo of your uptight
Is the flicker of a street light
You know this moment don’t ya
And time is strangely calm now
‘Cause everybody’s gone it’s
Just you and your anger
Oh golden boy don’t act like you were kind
You were mine but you were awful every time
So don’t tell them what you told me
Don’t hold me like you know me
I would rather burn forever
But you should know that I died slow
Running through the halls of your haunted home
And the toughest part is that we both know
What to happened to you
Why you’re out on your own
Merry Christmas, please don’t call
You really left me on the line kid
Holding all your baggage
You know I’m not your father
Who says welcome to your uptight
While it flickers like a street light
He flickers through your damage
Oh golden boy you shined a light on our home
And at your best you were magic we were sold but don’t tell em what you told me
Don’t even tell em that you know me
I would rather burn forever
But you should know that I died slow
Running through the halls of your haunted home
And the toughest part is that we both know
What happened to you
Why you’re out on your own
Merry Christmas, please don’t call
One ticket out of your heavy gaze
I want one ticket off of your carousel
I want one ticket out of your heavy gaze
I want one ticket off of your carousel
But you should know that I die slow
Running through the halls of your haunted home
And the toughest part is that we both know
What happened to you
Why you’re out on your own
Merry Christmas, please don’t call
Merry Christmas
I’m not yours at all
Merry Christmas
Please don’t call me
Please don’t call me
Please don’t call me
Please don’t call me

I found this song recently after being ghosted by someone who I thought, for nearly 3 years, was my best friend, the same someone who was like a brother to me, really. All because he found new people to be friends with, and got back with his toxic ex-boyfriend, so now I don't matter. Going into the holiday season without him really sucks, and despite the fact he was a walking red flag, I still miss him and our talks. He really did leave me on the line, while holding all of his baggage. Thank you Bleachers for this masterpiece. Merry Christmas, and of course, please don't call; you know who you are. 🎄

This is not just my favorite Christmas song, but it is also one of my favorite songs ever. The way is seemlessly tells a story about grief and the past set against the backdrop of Christmas and the winter season... It's like the duality of winter/Christmas films - We have the optimistic ones and the heart shattering ones...This song feels like the latter movie - the lead is having these internal conversations and flashbacks to everything that went wrong and it's snowing outside... God, I love this song

I deeply connect with this song. As I work to heal from narcissistic and sociopathic emotional abuse, it brings me a sense of closure. Recently, I discovered my 'friend' is a sociopath, and it's astonishing how I always felt responsible for their hurtful actions and behavior. He played the victim, manipulating me into feeling responsible for my reactions to his confusing and gaslighting behavior. In reality he was always using me and I was always right about him being a narcissist or a sociopath. Thank you, Jack. ❤

So much nostalgia here. A bit New Order, a bit OMD, a bit Erasure Christmas EP vibes. But it’s all Bleachers! Sure to be a classic!!!

Very much a vibe. Glad I found this. The vocal processing creates a spacey, melancholic atmosphere in contrast to some classic christmas-type bell sounds in the background. Very effective for Christmas in a not-so-great year.

I know that this meant to be interpreted for a past love but I can’t help but think of this song as a melancholic message to oneself

It’s actually crazy how literally every verse of this song I experienced with my abusive ex. Thank you so much for making this song, especially for Christmas time

the way jack moves when he performs a song, it's like the song is possessing him. it perfectly embodies the essence of the song every time.
