I genuinely feel Hozier has the best male voice in the business at the moment. It's so powerful, full of range, its soulful, sincere, full of a rhythm, a flow, its hard hitting, beautiful and he gives it his all everytime even when it looks like he is not trying.

Original: Drunk confessions, meaningless one night stand turned into one sided romance, sipping a drink while staring at someone from the other side of the bar Hozier’s cover: The fear of ruining the long-term friendship because of newly developed feelings, yearning, heartbreak, and sadness This cover definitely demonstrates the REAL meaning behind the lyrics. The original covers up the tone using cool guitar riffs and bass but Hozier really made me realize how emotional these lyrics are when they’re stripped of that. Hearing them raw does something to me.

The same song, the same lyrics but completely different perspectives on dealing with unrequited love. The original feels more like the singer can't even admit to himself the level of rejection and loss he's enduring. Whereas this version strikes me as though he's completely and painfully aware of what he can't change but he still holds to hope anyway, which to me translates as tragically beautiful. Who doesn't know the ache of longing and despair, the knowledge that that release will never come the way you want it to but you hold on anyway. Hoping against hope to be the exception to the rule.

Have you no idea that you're in deep? I've dreamt about you nearly every night this week How many secrets can you keep? 'Cause there's this tune I found That makes me think of you somehow an' I play it on repeat Until I fall asleep, spillin' drinks on my settee [Pre-Chorus] (Do I wanna know?) If this feelin' flows both ways? (Sad to see you go) Was sorta hopin' that you’d stay (Darling, we both know) That the nights were mainly made For sayin' things that you can't say tomorrow day [Chorus] Crawlin' back to you Ever thought of callin' when You've had a few? 'Cause I always do Maybe I'm too Busy bein' yours To fall for somebody new Now, I've thought it through Crawlin' back to you [Pre-Chorus] (Do I wanna know?) If this feelin' flows both ways? (Sad to see you go) Was sorta hopin' that you’d stay (Darling, we both know) That the nights were mainly made For sayin' things that you can't say tomorrow day [Chorus] Crawlin' back to you (Crawlin' back to you) Ever thought of callin' when You've had a few? @@gellybean3698 yeah it’s always best to just be upfront about your feelings! i had friends who had bad ass crushes on me but they “hid it” because... idk i guess they were too scared? but the moment i got a boyfriend they suddenly got really pissy at me and accused me of leading them on even though they never once shared any real feeling lol. downsides of hiding your feelings: * that person will find someone else * you look like a wishy washy coward * you only stay as their friend because of the chance you may be able to get in their pants?? gross * you waste the best years of your life on hypotheticals * you will continue to suffer internally perks of sharing your feelings: * you may be able to make something of it (a relationship) * you can learn to accept the rejection and move on with your life * no more wasting time on feelings that aren’t mutual * no more suffering internally

Hozier’s really good at conveying emotion especially emotions when they’re conflicting and hard to express. At least to me, This cover seems less depressing and more “I love you so much, it hurts me”. It’s yearning and tender and helpless and definitely somber but it’s the kind of heartache that you get when you’re full of emotion, not devoid of it. Y’know???

@Joshua A. Wegmann Of course i have a huge urge to announce i am gay wherever i go. I can't go tell my parents i am gay even though i am 22 and mostly independent, without fearing my father murdering me. I can't tell some of my friends because where i live, most of them are homophobic. I fucking apologize that i see this shitty youtube account as a safe space away from my real life people and happily try to be myself and it inconviniences you. And yeah, start announcing you are straight everywhere, literally NOBODY is stopping you. At worst some of my rightfully jealous gays will mock you for it. It's not like your life literally depends on staying silent about liking whoever the fuck you like. Go hate your wife or something.
@ghostking67004 жыл бұрын
Joshua A. Wegmann run with it dude! Go one step further and respect gay people like they do to you! Maybe after that you’ll see how much of a douche you were being to people who just want acceptance without a huge fight over it. We only say it as much as we do to see how many people are like us or are allies, or to pay respects and compliment. You should definitely do more of that, and maybe you’ll find the people you talk so harshly to are human too.
@arundhatisharma57434 жыл бұрын
Joshua A. Wegmann this is literally the dumbest thing i’ve read in a while. you’re reeking of privilege and it shows. you don’t have to fear for your life because of your sexuality but some of us live with that fear EVERY single day. imagine getting so bothered by a harmless comment on youtube. homophobic much 🤢

I would disagree to be honest. This version sounds a bit too happy and romantic, which I feel the lyrics are neither. The singer in the song is not in a good state. He's falling asleep drunk on his couch, and obsessing over this woman and coming back to her when he's drunk. It's a song about love and lust yes, but it's showing the darker side of the controlling power of love, and obsession.

The gradual fade at the end from Hozier's voice over to the female voice.. Beautiful and subtle way to symbolize your ex mirroring your thoughts and feelings back. I've atleast experienced this. That I reflect on something from the past, just to get in touch with my ex and getting to hear that she's been reflecting on exactly the same thing basically at the same moment as me. Powerful version.
