I agree with all the comments that it needed to be lifted more, but let's not forget how difficult it can be to lift hair to a light blonde and get a perfect gray. Stella probably didn't want to ruin her hair.

I personally didn't think Stella would let someone walk away with hair like this and when I saw the bleached hair I kept telling myself "she'll definitely go in with bleach again right". I just wish it didn't feel so rushed like you said.

And I honestly don’t get it when we all know Stella is really amazing at bleaching/ colouring.. etc. This result just feels really weird and unfinished and totally not her style… I’m honestly upset because I imagined an amazing grey based on the blurred image. 😣

@@laura_marie1 even a level 9 neutral blonde would have been a better middle ground until it could be bleached again. These things happen though, it can be finished once the clients hair has had a break.

Looks like she may need another bleaching once her hair recovers from this one/when she’s had a break from the bleach (as usual when going blonde), but this is a fabulous interim step! People don’t understand you can’t just bleach hair several levels at one time without a ton of damage- lots of comments on the yellow still showing through. She probably set expectations with her friend. Silver is hard- this is a fabulous step in the process!

It is indeed however they could have made 2 videos- part1, part2 to show the correct process. Stella is good, I don’t understand why she let this video come out as it is. Ps. I’ve bleached my strong brown hair white a lot so I know the process and how hard to achieve the best result!

And the title shouldn’t have been “GREY” when it’s clearly not. Ps again.. I know it’s me but I happened to be bleached 2x on several occasions but I didn’t kill my hair. I’ve been dying my own hair for 15 years now- the main reason was this patchy orange/ yellow result by the hairdresser (I showed a totally different colour to her..) and then I decided I’m not gonna pay for it! Atm I’m just resting my hair, only light up my roots and looks like ombré and way much longer then on my profile pic (which was taken 6 months ago) 😅

As a fellow licensed professional, i really want to commend you. To be able to lift what looks like artificial dye pigments to that level of blonde, that evenly is a struggle. You did great, and the silver is at a great place and presentable, so her hair can rest for you to perfect it in the next appointment! Great representation of big haircolour changes! For everyone pointing out that she needs another bleaching, im positive that she comprehends this lol. But she is the stylist and most likely didnt want too compromise her friends hair. Im sure she explained too her friend that it takes baby steps too get the silver the way she wanted it and is giving her hair time too heal and breath before going back in again if her friend still wanted it. It looks lovely though!

I dont think it needs anotber bleaching but it definitely wants a touch up! The ends didnt seem to take the chosen colour very well, the undertone looks a bit mucky! Could deffo to with another tone on top but gorgeous results regarless

The base wasn't lifted enough. Needed to be bleached 2× to a pale yellow before silver was applied.

Guys, Stella is a licensed hair stylist. She understands the process, but you also have to remember that this girl started out with very dark hair and it's going to take more than one appointment for her hair to be pure white without destroying it. Stella knows what she's doing, keep the nasty comments to yourselves please.

my hair is darker than hers by a level or 2 naturally,and my stylist managed to get me silver with minimum damage in one sitting, this wasn't lifted enough unfortunately, it could also be that the video has a weird filter on it making the grey look more yellow/green🤔

@Alex Kot she's not qualified, she should have foil carded it (platinum card). It was definitely do able, the clients hair looked a level 6 so reaching a ten was possible however it depends on integrity if the hair and previous bleaches/colouring

I have to be honest here... I've been in chairs when hairdressers will tell me how *amazing* my hair looks when it's obvious that it's not what I asked/doesn't look good. I always feel so manipulated and scared to speak up since a professional is telling me how great I look. I really hate this.

I know what you mean. It took me so long to get rid of bleached patches this one hair stylist left me. I asked for a balayage and she went way too high and left a harsh line on the back top area. Couldn’t get rid of the line until eventually my hair grew enough to cut it off. I didn’t say anything just left and even as I was leaving other hair stylist were saying it looked nice. Guess they were just trying to make me feel better. 😓

Unfortunately, the hair wasn't lifted quite enough so the toner wasn't completely able to cancel out the yellow, making the ends rather green. I think I would have added a bit of the root color to the mixture for the ends and gone 1 level darker on the root area to correct this. Sure it wouldn't have been as bright/light, but would have been a nice compromise until the next lightening treatment :)

personally, i would have added one of guy tang's RG's in the mix for both colors, to cancel out some of that green that grey is so prone to. the lighting in this room is also extremely yellow though, so maybe it looks different in natural light. would have liked to see it!

@@kiana5131 that’s because her hair wasn’t lifted enough. Her hair still had too much yellow in it. When you want silver, it should be white. A lot of silver dyes are blue in undertone, blue and yellow make green which is why it looks like that. Her friends hair could have been colour treated which makes it not lighten as many levels compared to virgin hair or depending on the developer she used. I would assume Stella didn’t want to damage her hair and will just let her friend enjoy the colour, than fix it in a another session to let it rest.

The root color looks amazing, however it may look different off camera, but here it looks like the grey-silver didn't take on the lower parts :/ nice base to work off though

I think thinner sectioning when foiling may help a bit for evenness too, it’s a lot more work and a lot more foils but the results are definitely worth it! A beauty wash on the ends may have helped a bit more at the bowl. But usually when you’re going silver or grey it’s nice to have that pale yellow blonde at the least to apply a sliver/grey toner.

She did do a platinum card and pretty much even though you take small sections doesn’t mean you will get the best lift. She is working with previous colored hair, and it’s probably permanent. In order to get “grey” hair has to be super lifted to a Level 10+ and then custom toned, Stella did an amazing job for one session. Most hairdressers that see people with previous dye will turn them down for a platinum card. GREAT JOB STELLA!

@@jeets105 she could’ve also used a darker toner because the toner she used only worked on the parts of the hair that was a level 10. The reason we see the two tones is because those previous colored ends didn’t lift enough. One toner (a few shades darker) will have helped for a more even tone.

@@pinkleche8697 yes totally I agree about the darker toner, if she was going for a color like that. Usually it’s not best to tone down a porous blonde because what happens is since her hair has different porosities the freshly bleached blonde will absorb those pigments too deep and it will be hard to remove them again for the next lightening service. Unless you’re working with virgin hair, this type of color correction takes many sessions to get one clean lift and tone.

@@jeets105 it honestly depends on what toners you’re using. I always use a filler treatment on my platinums to fill the cuticle before i tone the hair to prevent it from unevenness because of the porosity. I’m not familiar with Guy Tangs toners as far as how long they last, but I use redken shades eq. When I say darker I don’t mean a level 6 when she’s a 9, I mean maybe an 8? It’s not much darker and the results may have been even then.

I really love your videos Stella however this time the lady’s hair should have been bleached 2x then apply the grey because it’s really patchy and yellow too. 😕 EDIT: I don’t understand people faking it in the comments saying “great first step” whereas the TRUTH is that despite most of us DO love and support Stella here this time she DIDN’T do the job she promised in the description. Moreover, she was “super happy “ with the result. NO follow-up was mentioned. Nobody is perfect and that’s an unfinished/ wrong job. If everyone keeps threading on eggshells then she won’t learn. it's quite muddy looking, it wasn't lifted enough (try platinum carding next time, do one side wash it off then do the other side so the first side doesn't lift too much), the toner wasn't right, her hair wasn't light enough for the mid length and end toner, it needed a touch of red.

I had this same issue with guys silver line. I thought it was going on great and looking grey how I wanted and then I washed it out and it was just kind of a ashy blonde. It’s because it has a slight blue undertone that you can’t really see and then it turns the hair…. Almost a green blonde. Unfortunately most of his silver shades you need to be platinum. The root color was beautiful though

To get that kind of silver , you have to lift it to an ashy blonde , similar to white , that can burn her hair so bad . I understand that stella didn t want to risk anything with her friend s hair, BUT she should've chose a better color for the ends cuz the roots are blueish and the ends are almost green ... Some people in the comments don't really understand that person might not have wanted to bleach her hair a second time and damage it more. After a few weeks she can come back and get her hair lighter. If she's happy with the result that's what matters, and maybe those patches are not even visible in real life just on camera. I'm sure Stella told her friend what to expect and how it's gonna look, and if not, then it's still fixable. Grey color is hard to pull of over all

i think she just needs a retone ! She should use a level 7 pearl ash by Paul Mitchell which is like a really Smokey violet toner in level 7 to really neutralize all of that yellowness you see. The hair is at a level 9 tho. It’s possible. Just need a more pigmented toner to really cancel out that yellow !

Roots have too much of a purple undertone and the majority of the rest has a weird brassy/ green undertone with the exception of a few grey splotches throughout. Would not call this outcome "professional" in the slightest, yet nor would it be appropriate to call horrible. Could be worse, yet Could be much, much better

Great job for a first bleaching time!! The only thing i’m afraid off, is that her hair is gonna be green in a few weeks. I have my hair grey for quit some time, but i always do it by myself. Profs don’t know your hair and that’s totally fine, but with grey you do need to take risk in bleaching for the best result. And that’s a risk prof’s don’t like to take here in the Netherlands! I understand them, it is always a risk of losing hair, but it will give you the best result of grey hair.

Have you ever tried Guy Tang's big 9 cream lift bleach Stella? It's really nice it will take the hair platinum in 1 sitting. The hair had a deep yellow untertone and looked a bit green towards the end. But she was happy. That's all that matters. Love watching you work! :D

If you weren’t going to lift her to the proper blonde I would’ve done a darker grey/silver. It looks very swampy on the ends… the roots are beautiful. Definitely would’ve bleached again, it’s not that bad. Even a bleach wash at the bowl.

Came out drab. First time means nothing. Everyone here know there should have been a second round of 20 volume bleach.

the lighting in the studio is really very yellow, so it would have been nice to see it in natural light! i also personally would've added some of guy tang's rose gold shades to each formula, just to kick out that green that grey is so prone to. still a flawless base though!

Altough it might need another round of bleaching I‘m really really impressed by the outcome ☺️ Actually I’m still mad at my hairdresser not getting me the silvery white hair, that I wanted 😔 my natural hair is light blond but the hairdresser really needed several bleaching rounds and two sittings to get a LIGHTER blond 🙄 it wasn‘t nearly white and cost me almost $700 😭 And I have shoulder long hair so… not even that much hair to bleach. I mean, the hairdresser probably just wanted to be careful about Not burning my scalp but whatever, I‘m still sad 🙊

Honestly think she couldve used 25v develop with the bond protectors in blonde me, im sure she couldve got some olaplex too and that wouldve lifted enough to really pull that color together whilst holding integrity. A small mix of blue and violet tones in the ends wouldve killed that green as well

Yes.. she shouldve adderad different toners to the ends since the Base color was way too dark yellow(orange)

My hair did this...not ALL the hair too the toner....I ended up with silver and PEACH!...which I wasn't mad at, but it wasn't the SILVER/ice white I was expecting :)

Responding to the other comments- I believe, if it wasn’t going to be or couldn’t be lifted again-pretoning would have been the best option. Wash with purple shampoo and put a 9V with a dash of 8VB to cancel out those warm tones before getting the dye on there. I don’t think guy tangs color was enough to cover that warmth.

Also keep in mind that heat pulls silver out so quickly! Mine was like color changing dye after I went over a piece with a straightener 😂

The ends need another lift to get to the perfect gray, in my opinion it would be better if the ends were rose gold temporally, that would make it less granny looking and once the hair is restaured she can do another round of bleach. Other than that this is a great work, preserving the hair integrity is key.
