Other than for looks what would you use such a knot for?

They are really more decorative than anything. I have seen leashes and things like that made out of a lot of bleed knots.

+James Montgomery they are used on western saddles, the cowboy has different attachments and styles depending on the work he is doing, so he would have conchos in sevral places on the saddle.
