Looks and feels really cold and challenging, but winter hikes are unmatched! Lake is majestic, absolutely and honestly majestic Alan! Scenery is perfect for some drone photography but a severe temperature drop can drain the battery in 17 minutes.

A regular winter wonderland in the Lake District... Very pretty. Snowshoes are a pain to carry around on a pack but sometimes come in handy. Maybe not worth packing for a simple and occasional drift to cross on a well trod trail... LOL Snow is a workout no matter what. Looking quite arctic up top. 😎 Awesome video my friend.

Yes, absolutely ... VERY sketchy! 😱 But oh my, those views! The icy lake was so beautiful. The snow was so deep and it was so blustery. You really needed to know what you were doing and have all the right gear. Even so, I thought you were incredibly brave to tackle that snowy terrain. Well done, Alan! An awesome achievement - and very entertaining to watch too! ❤👏👏

Thanks very much for watching, real good of you and in parts, yes, very sketchy indeed but the only way was up and I was determined to get there again. Wow Alan this looked beautiful but so cold ! You were brave taking on this in the snow, but well worth it for the views, good thing you had your spikes and heated jacket on, I'm surprised people werent wearing them ! The views were amazing though and its great that its close to your home. Loved that iced over lake where you stood, you captured all of this beautifully. That was fabulous ~ Anna 👍
@AlanMETALMAN5 күн бұрын
If I am honest Anna, I did not think the snow was going to be as deep as it was and once I got over that sketchy part, there was no going back that way again, so I had to go on. Pleased I did mind, as the views from the tarn and the summit were both amazing. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Wow well done for this ! Blencathra isn't easy at the best of times but so much tougher in the snow.Good to see Banerdale Crags as I was up there yesterday 😊... like you up to my knees in snow but oh so worth it. Difficult to navigate when the paths are covered with the added problem of not knowing what's beneath. Scales Tarn looked fabulous. I agree with absolutely everything you say about Sharpe Edge ... not something to be treated with bravado, only respect ... like all the mountains ... they are the boss !!! Pleased you made it to the top ok & if you show Harry Metalman the wonderful views, hopefully he can be persuaded back out again 🤞👍

It would be great to go out with harry again but the tables would be turned now with him waiting for me all the time lol. Good to hear you have been out in the snow too as it looks like it will be all gone this week, which is a shame. Such a good day last Friday, I really enjoyed it, tougher than I thought it was going to be but for the first hike of the new year, I was happy on that summit. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

It was an exciting but also challenging adventure. It's not easy to hike in such deep snow. However, with proper preparation and the right equipment, you can be sure of safety and enjoyment. I have never hiked alone, I always go with a group, but solo hiking also has its charm. Stunning views and landscape 👍👍

Beautiful views. A very “sketchy” climb for sure. Glad you made it through safely. The temperature was certainly low but you appeared to have enough layers for protection. I’ve never hiked in the snow before but where I live we don’t usually get much snow. We had 1.3 inches this week but it melted the next day. Thanks for sharing the video.

Blencathra, possibly my favourite English fell. The pipe has gone? Oh no. We’ve done Blencathra in similar conditions and obviously avoided the edge! Missing those all important bits on the poles! Decent amount of snow up there. Always good to have a regular time slot, i dont do notifications but I know to look for your videos on a Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening. People that don’t have a regular schedule can easily get lost. Watch out for the yellow snow! Closest mountain for us too and so attractive from the A66. Got my consultation this week and was 9KG over BMI on Boxing Day, not weighed in since but hopefully will pass my consultation requirements. Scales Tarn looking lovely. No Sharp Edge today. Great views from the summit, sunken trig buried under the snow! Nice to have the heated jacket for the descent! 👍
@AlanMETALMAN4 күн бұрын
Yep, one of my favourites as well and the first time I have climbed it in snow as well. Last year at Alcock Tarn in the snow and ice, I forgot my spikes, this time the snow baskets for my poles, one of these times I will get it right. Good luck with your consultation, disappointed with mine but just got to plod on and I have to lose some weight, I am far too heavy for my height. A good day, a tough day and a real cold day but such an adventure. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@ashleyjarnold5 күн бұрын
That was an expedition, Alan, not a hike! You would have needed ice pikes, shovels, and a digger to get me up there so fair play for getting up and down so well. I couldn't believe it that people were actually trying Sharp Edge - Scales Tarn was stunning, spoiled as you said by the bottle on it. I remember the climb up from there and its tough in good weather so you did amazingly well to get to the top - that jacket really worked well too. I was looking forward to the descent but you did well to capture what you did - as for that question, tell that irish guy to wise up!! Regards, Ashley and Andrea

I was really surprised at the people trying Sharp Edge as there so many sudden gusts and they were strong gusts too, already there has been one fatality on Sharp Edge this year :O(. Hi Alan 😊 really enjoyed that the conditions looked extremely tough but absolutely stunning. That route was the first route I ever took up blencathra (pre my YT channel) and I remember enjoying it so much. Not sure how I would have got on with the snow that bad. I can imagine how cold the wind chill was 😅 I agree microspikes definitely needed in weather like that. Really surprised there were so many people without them. I done Skiddaw recently in the ice and had to put my spikes on too. Wouldn’t risk it without them. Very brave people heading up to sharp edge I was sad to hear about a life lost already on sharp edge this year. Fantastic walk Alan great job you deserve a coffee for that one for sure! 😊

What an exciting and challenging day! The snow makes everything look beautiful, but makes the hiking difficult, and wow, the temperatures were frigid! Good thing you were totally prepared with your spikes and poles and wearing plenty of layers. Did you like being in the shade / shadow of the ridge? I bet when you got into the sun it was more windy- and icy. Whew, I would not like to go up on the ridge with those conditions. Great job braving the elements- the views of the Lake District were outstanding!! :) Like!! Jen
