I have to say, I watched 4 videos on this and only yours helped. I have worked on cars/trucks/ restored them and so forth but this was the most aggravating thing I've done in my 50 years. Thank you and God bless you my friend.

Thank you so much for the video. It really helped me take that last screw on the top off after removing the panel under the steering wheel. My only suggestion to anyone having problems pulling the actuator out is to use a long screwdriver from the front panel and pry it off first.I was able to get the actuator out in about 3 minutes just moving around. Thanks again.

This is the most legit video in terms of how hard a fix it is. I watched like 5. Clearly ford made some design changes in later 2000 models to make the fix easier, but not so on the older ones like mine. I've done some fixes, but I have big hands and other sh to do with my Saturday. Freezed my buns last winter. Shop wanted $600 labor, byo part. Dealer wanted $87 for part. I bought a Dorman aftermarket from auto zone for 49.99 and a partshouse parking lot mechanic quoted $60 to put in in. He took 20 min to get old out. Plugged in new one. Honest guy. The aftermarket wasnt working when he plugged it in and tested. Bad in the box. Returned that and got part from dealer. Would have taken me a all day to do this and I would not have thought to plug in and test new one. Would have assumed I effed up. I figure the original ford part lasted 95k. Paid 87 for dealer part. Gave parking lot mech and extra $20, so out the door $172 including tax. 1.5 hours total time including round trip to dealer. Shop would have been 692, part and labor. Ford dealer quoted 900 labor if they can get it the way this guy just did fir $60 plus tip, 1200 labor if they take dash out (I asked since I was there getting the part). If you have a 2002-2005 explorer and live in the Washington DC area, reply and I'll pass on the mechanic's number. He was a Lifesaver! No cold buns this winter!

Almost great video. Not sure if you all missed it, but how did he flip the actuator inside because at the 12:15 mark he appears taking it out with the piece flipped claiming he finangled it. NO WAY!!! Been here over an hour and nothing trying to get it out. Can't imagine how hard it will be to get the new one in

@gregterry13246 жыл бұрын
video edit lol! I do the same thing, he just showed the motor with the shaft backwards but in reality it comes out from the back in the direction it was removed from. goes back in the same way. Tip, loosen the two screws holding the lower steering panel bracket, it will give you a little extra space. not a big clearance job at all. Do it here in DC all the time. Good vid bud.

I have an 05 mountaineer, the ceiling vents only blow cold air and not hot. i was wondering if this would be the reason for it or if it would be something different. it used to work so i know hot air blows from there.

My sisters 04 explorer is the same air speed on settings 1-4. But it’s also stuck between defrost and vents. Am I watching the right video on how to fix that?
@V.Hansen.4 жыл бұрын
Did you figure that out? Because this is the one between hot and cold, but when I asked for a quote from my mechanic they said there are so many door actuators they couldn't possible tell which one without an $85 inspection. Every video I've seen is this one I think.

Hard enough to do let alone filming it. Question? does it have to be clocked in a position before install I guess I'll find out .

So why was this replaced? In mine, when you turn the heater on, it makes a knocking noise. I think it’s maybe the blend door actuator but I’m not quite sure.

can the new blend door actuator be installed incorrectly? That is, with the door opening and shouting 180 degrees out? Thanks

@youvehadyoursix7 жыл бұрын
Hello - thanks for doing this. I have a 2003 Explorer but I believe the process would be very similar for this. Stupid question time - is the purpose of removing the whole center console just so that you can get the side panel off (by the driver's right foot)? I have seen in some later years that the panel is nicely split so you can get at things without messing with the center console, but that is not the case with the '03. Thanks!

I've got an 04 explorer xls. My AC blows out of the defroster on the dash and my air vents. It's hard to drive with this issue because I live in South Florida and it's super humid. When I drive, the wipers fog up. I don't get full power on the vents because of this. Do you know what part I would have to change?

I agree This video does help me to know where the screws are and what to do but I’m sorry when he acts like it’s so hard to get out that’s not true I think it’s much easier than he makes it out to be since he is a mechanic and it sounds like it’s a customers car and he could never let them see it’s much easier to do you can totally see when he says he’s wrestling with it he isn’t even moving his hands this is just the part of mechanics that I hate when they try to justify charging like 800 dollars for doing this job they always have to act like things are so hard I mean once I knew where the bolts were that thing came out so fast and I put the new one in even easier there is no wrestling bs I’m sorry to say but thanks for showing me where the part was
