I don’t think that it’s so much forgetting the advancement, but rather the fact that yet another “perfect distro” could potentially further muddle the Linux confusion for beginners. I know when I first started using Linux, I was about to go with Vanilla OS for example, because it seemingly promised about the same thing and I thought it would become “THE Linux distro” in the future. However, while I’m not saying there’s some “one-size-fits-all” distro, I’ve basically never heard it mentioned again outside of the initial video by TLE, so I don’t know how much community support I’d really get… also, yes, Distrobox exists.

sounds cool but it would be really hard to do, windows is closed source and not as easily containerizable as linux distros. They could do it by creating some sort of frontend for wine or using virtual machines, both approaches come with huge downsides that have to be considered. It's a really cool idea tho, just really difficult to apply

Thanks for the great review! :) Saw in the comments you were using X11, and yeah, Android apps are only supported in Wayland sessions (it's WayDroid after all), which is also why blendOS defaults to Wayland on systems with NVIDIA GPUs as well (on DEs where it's supported). One more thing: we haven't used Distrobox for blendOS since the release of blendOS v2 in April, since there were quite a few features we wanted to implement that Distrobox hadn't/hasn't.

I wonder, how theming or system integration (like global menus) and access to home files work in Blend OS? For example, when we install GIMP from Fedora and then want to open a file from GIMP, how does it work? Also, what about user configs, especially when there are multiple installations of the same app? I guess, I need to check it out in virtual environment, but I wonder, if it even works like that?

A great introduction to BlendOS. I'll be trying it out eventually just to see how it handles multiple DE's on one system. It appears to offer convenience in this regard and as someone who follows and themes different DE's it could be an ideal match for me.

NO this will NOT solve distro hopping, since most people,e switch distro for the GUI/Windowing system, Containers/Distrobox tech only exposes Apps, NOT THE WHOLE WINDOW MANAGER/GUI, so if BlendOS is running GNOME, your window Mgr will REMAIN Gnome, although you may install other apps.

Sounds nice on paper, but it probably uses multiple distros in exchange of performance and optimization which is nowhere near worth it especially when QEMU with KVM exists and it does what BlendOS does and better. VMs can even run Windows OSs now(although anti-cheats cause some problems with Windows VMs)

Nice video. Gonna check out blendOS as a result. Pretty happy with my current daily driver setup these days but I love what blend is doing here. I've played with docker containers over the past couple of years trying to get things I can't in my base OS (Manjaro) but haven't succeeded. This could well be what I need to move toward.

This is so cool, I guess better than Vanilla OS. However I did face a lot of problems running apps in Arch container in Vanilla due to the duplicity of GTK theming. Which resulted in fonts getting messed up and displayed as blocks. The core defaulted to apx unless sudo abroot is used (uses apt and syncs while exiting) which lacked a lot of packages, eg: pyenv, which I was not able to get things to go smoothly, so returned back to Manjaro. Will give BlendOS a chance as it looks promising, hopefully allowing me to work fluidly.

I like to use PLANK-- can it workon WAYLAND? I tried once and it didn't- but probably did something wrong.. IF it will- I 'd love to use this.. GREAT distro.. was fun for the testing.. When I saw this video a few months back I thought this is great But now I am using NixOS and it has a larger repository than AUR in fact, now it has 100000 packages in a stable branch But that's not what I want to say, what I want to say is, that blend os isn't different from other distros, and it didn't combined every distro, what they did is just give you the support of distrobox by default, and this distrobox can be installed on any linux distribution, and you can get any package from any container, and it is really fast it isn't like virtual machines, so blend os is just providing you this distrobox by default nothing new

Also there's impossible bug with on screen keyboard in Waydroid, why such keyboard even offered for desktop comp is strange and you can't turn it off, but in 4K resolution such keyboard takes half screen and using all OS resources making it incredibly slow and sluggish.

I have just tried it and honestly my opinion it's terrible. Out of the box there is no way to install software. it seems first I need to set up a "container" but it doesn't explain what that is. It's like running several virtual OS at the same time, each in their own container, weird. I guess for some people who are familiar with these concepts it is good, but for the average user the learning curve is like a brick wall. I expected as advertised that all the OSs would work together out of the box and I would be able to switch between desktop environments easily. That is NOT the case.

It's a big gimmick. Most things are available on Flatpak, and for the base system utilities (neofetch, vim, etc.) just use a base, that has everything you need. If something is not on there, compile it yourself. You don't need 9 package managers, if you only need AUR/rpm/deb package once, and then never again. Don't waste your time.

Exactly this, most of us don't really know why you'd need apt over dnf. Distrobox + Flatpak will cover everything you need here with the added bonus that you would set it up for a certain workflow and use it for that reason. Use something most people would consider restrictive like Debian or Silverblue and see how little you need stuff like this.

Potentially very good/solid solution *in the future* (like, by 2028 at the earliest), but as of *right now* it's quite buggy and unstable due to being pretty fresh-out-of-the-oven and VERY UNPOLISHED because of that. It has great potential for the future, but at the currently ongoing time as I'm writing this comment, it's just waaay too much of a "Russian roulette"-like kind of an experience, especially because it's a friggin' rolling-release update model (I have no doubts in my mind whatsoever that they'll eventually *will* break something royally in the near future, due to that). Let's see how it fares by 2028 (if it'll still be around by then).

These immutable fad distros are most certainly not the future of Linux desktop, people love to distrohop and customize their desktop - both of those things are removed almost with immutable distros. I believe and I do not want to be wrong; that this thing about linux distros degenerates over the years and that is why more and more videos/tutorials are made about what Linux is for ur=Windoes and/or Mac users. Devuan , not only the name is similar to Debian but also the distro itself is similar. I am a Mac, Linux and Windows user in those orders and when I see a video like this at this time of the year I feel bored. And I imagine that one day a distro can come out with the eggs well laid and give strength to #1 to Deepin, #2 to Linux Mint and #3 to Manjaro. The Best and Unique...ok Ubuntu (#4).
