Blended XR Curriculum Approach: MIX (Multimodal Immersive eXperience) lesson plan flow chart and template development
Presenter: Dr. Sarune Savickaite, University of Glasgow
The MIX (Multimodal Immersive eXperience) lesson planning approach combines XR (Extended Reality) technologies with traditional teaching methods, providing a structured decision flow chart and lesson plan template for educators. This paper explores how XR tools, such as VR, enhance experiential learning by offering immersive environments that are otherwise inaccessible in traditional classrooms. The paper addresses the challenges of integrating XR into lessons, including managing cognitive load, adapting pedagogy, and maintaining student engagement. A step-by-step guide helps novice teachers navigate the complexities of XR lesson preparation, from technical logistics to the alignment of XR activities with core learning objectives. The lesson plan template offers practical advice for blending XR with conventional methods, ensuring a balanced and effective learning experience. The ongoing research will involve real-world implementation of the template, with feedback from teachers and students to refine the approach.
