UPDATE: I installed Blender 3.0 on another computer (both Win10, same brand CPU and GPU) and the right click option to mark a material as asset works there. I then reinstalled it on my main machine and it still doesn't work. Not sure why but it seems like this behavior might not be consistent across computers.

When I hit add as an asset it automatically puts it inot the current file folder. How di you get it to go into the desired folder. That part seems to be glossed over in various tutorials.

When you mark something as an asset, it will in show in the dropdown list under the current blend file. Then you can put that blend file in whichever Library folder you'd like the asset to be included in.

@@RocketScienceGallery When i mark a material as an asset, yes it shows up (only) in my current blend file. But when you say "you can put that blend file in whichever"... do you mean that a new separate .blend file gets created for each material that gets Marked as Asset? That does not seem to be the case. Seems the newly marked asset gets baked into the current .blend file only. Or are you suggesting the current blend file (including all the other data in addition to that one materials asset) be copy/pasted into some central folder? Should I be thinking about how to create .blend files one for each material I'd like to be available within Asset Browser? Apologies, first evening diving into Asset Browser. Would ideally like to organize locally so that that same structure appears within my Asset Browser. Or, better still: be able to use the Asset Browser UI to copy and/or move Assets out of one file, share/into another.

It's great that this is being incorporated into blender, but in it's present state I found it unusable for me. It is difficult to use, you have to open each blend file and mark each asset, it can not scan library directories for new assets, rigged assets are 'iffy' at least and it is 'buggy'. I have thousands of assets in my Chocofur library, and to migrate them to this new asset manager would take days or even weeks. Lets hope the developers continue down this path and give us a fast and efficient asset manager, I know they will.

Tried everything with creating Asset file path and marking as assets then saving the file in the folder but when i open up a new .blendfile only the categories that I made are visible not the assets themselves :(..weird

Strange, it has been working for me in additional testing today - saved the file to the Asset folder, then marked as asset, then opened a new file. There is a "Refresh Asset Library" button on the library dropdown, maybe that could work?

It seems that the thumbnail generation feature is largely broken on the S8 browser. Only about one of every 15 objects that I generate thumbnail on actually produce a thumbnail.
@RocketScienceGallery3 жыл бұрын
From others' experience it appears that when you mark something as an asset Blender renders the preview in the background, but if you close the file while it's still rendering it won't come back to finish the previews. You could try unmarking and remarking the items that don't have previews and leaving their blend files open while it's rendering (indicated by CPU/GPU utilization).

@@RocketScienceGallery I've let the file stay open and the thumbs never appear. I even chose the "generate thumbnail" option and 2 of the 16 files actually DID generate a thumb, but the other 14 remained with generic paper icons. Probably buggy and not ready for prime time.

İ think you could add materials directly by right clickling but i dont know why it didnt show up for you?
@RocketScienceGallery3 жыл бұрын
I suppose it might depend on the material but I couldn't get it to work with any of the premade materials I have. More testing needed I guess... EDIT: I installed Blender 3.0 on another computer (both Win10, same brand CPU and GPU) and the right click option works there. I then reinstalled it on my main machine and it still doesn't work. Not sure why but it seems like it might not be consistent across computers.

If you use parenting to make Family of all the objects of the model you would loose the ability to edit part, unlike having to destructively JOIN the parts.
