I haven't seen a good comparison between GIS and OSM, best I can tell is that GIS can pull more types of data but osm is easier to use and pulled better osm data. I tried both to import Sydney Australia, osm added random building meshes but used a shrink wrap modifier to slap the roads n such on the height mapped mesh where as GIS missed the opera house among other things. The height map was incredibly wrong but that's obviously just the fault of the data. Bridges are mentioned here but I also tried new York with osm and roads were slapped to the very flat height map, I didn't try NYC with GIS but the bridges would be coming from open street maps which they both pull meshes from I believe?

{ PLEASE HELP } So I started learning blender lately and I really would like to focus on arch-vis but I'm no architect, so do I have to be an architect to make it a career out of it?! or should I focus or something else so I can have a chance later, I don't want to waste my time on arch-viz for nothing then I can't get related jobs because I'm not an architect, please help me especially if anyone in this specific field. Thanks
@ozerune4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know from experience but I would assume it shouldn’t matter. If you’re working in ArchViz you would likely be expected do accurately represent an Architect’s blueprints to create stuff like 3D models and to pitch them to clients.
@yoddlegcoin4 жыл бұрын
I'm an architecture student so take this with a grain of salt. From my understanding architecture firms usually outsource their visualisation to external 3D professionals as it would be too time consuming in an architectural setting. Architects usually so work in 3D, and not only plans and sections so the process would basically be, recieving a model from Revvit/ArchiCAD/whatever, and then fixing, optimizing and making it believable and realistic. In my opinion, having an architecture degree most likely wouldn't matter as it has to do more with designing and not visualisation. Hope this helps!
@siminc79054 жыл бұрын
@@yoddlegcoinAm in arch school too...I actively use blender for renders...You dont need a degree to to do arch viz...BUT a degree could make life alot easier and communication with architects alot easier...

2:27 "professional applications like Sketchup" This sentence with all the respect but it's the most stupid thing I ever heard about in my entire Life
@SenorKine4 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, it's still the fastest precise modeling tool out there. Modeling architecture with Blender is the most stupid thing one could do as of now. I hope they'll improve but as their devs already said, it's not going to happen. I tried to convince my firm to switch to blender for so long but skp is so standard in the industry that no one is even bothering to find something else. Plus, when used with Vray, it can easily give you high-quality renders. If you don't trust me, just google what people use the most for archviz modeling
@Mahm00dM0hanad4 жыл бұрын
Filippo Chinello blender is not architecture application we are speaking about sketchup now, if you want to do visualization only then yeah maybe it’s ok but when it’s come to real work no way this program is a joke
@SenorKine4 жыл бұрын
@@Mahm00dM0hanad Why on earth would an Architect use blender over Skp in 2020? Do you really believe architects can model things "randomly" like placing doors and windows "more or less there"? Blender is sure made for the modeling of furniture and stuff but for precise modeling, it's a joke. When I do Architectural Viz I need the house or building to be "precise", I can then model all the stuff I want in blender and texturize it there but there's no architectural building in this world you can build faster in blender than in skp or rhino
@Mahm00dM0hanad4 жыл бұрын
Filippo Chinello and that’s what I’m saying..... blender is not for architectural use And which precise modeling are speaking about ❓ sketchup Torrance is 0.01 m which is ridiculously low
@SenorKine4 жыл бұрын
@@Mahm00dM0hanad What? You can set it in the preference tab haha You can work with 0,001 mm if you wish. I'm not defending SketchUp, I wish there was a good alternative. but you say it's not professional without even knowing what you are talking about. Sketchup is used as a professional archviz tool, not an architectural tool. People don't make projects in sketchup, they do MODEL them there. If you wish to use blender for Archviz, use it for the render production, not for the modeling. you'll save hours of work
