I think doing complex things like these in visual graphs get really messy and confusing really fast, is there some option in blender for standard programming/scripting? Great video!

Yep! It's all under the scripting tab. Curtis Holt has a few good videos on how to get started with this. :)

Y'know, I think something going wrong is perfect. - Almost scripted even ; ) Hopefully it means after part 4 you don't get nearly as many comments saying "It's broken, what do?"
