Pro tip: Please I beg you do not use blender for baking normals please please please Just use xnormal or substance painter ANYTHING BUT BLENDER AAAAAAA

Baking in blender is convenient, and works. What justifies swapping to either of those programs for just a normal map?

@@malachihormel7994 KZbin didn't notify me for this for some reason, but in short: Blender bakes are inaccurate and low quality, they bake natively in OpenGL format which is only useful in blender and not for games (if you're going to be baking in other programs) and if you're going to export the bake as a meshmap for use in substance painter it'll be far less accurate than substance's inbuilt bake. If you instead use quixel mixer, you won't get the luxury of baking there so you'll simply have a low quality, incorrect format bake for that as well. Additionally, blender bakes are much, MUCH slower than any other baking program out there, and have a messy and confusing setup that doesn't justify the time spent. It's unironically easier and quicker to export to another program just to bake. If you are doing literally anything at all with textures there is strictly no good reason to bake in blender over using another program unless you're either lazy or don't care about your own time or the quality of the bakes. Plenty of people don't care about that stuff, hence this tutorial.

⁠@@elliejohnson2786 If I had to choose substance, Blender or Maya, it’s gonna be substance. Maya would be my second option because it is literally 4 button clicks, but of course people who use Blender most likely don’t have access to either of these softwares. Not saying that Blender is bad, just saying that it is where most people start out.
