I'm gonna save you a shit ton of time. You don't need to keep hitting render for each layer, just go into the composite tab and make all your render layers then add a file output tab to each one. Then you only have to hit render once and all your collection render layers will be seperated.

Blender is truly the best example for open source software in almost every way. It is at the level of the very expensive big names like Maya and Cinema 4D, very user friendly (as far as 3D software goes), platform universal and well funded.

There’s a handy way of adding blur effects to grease pencil objects and key framing the effect strength to simulate depth of field change. Love this tutorial and your work

Good tutorial! Small but super important note though @ 15:52: there's no reason to remove compression on PNG files, they use lossless compression so the file gets smaller without losing any information, unlike the lossy compression of JPEGs. The slider controls the balance between compression effectiveness and speed, and the default value is very good, so it's best left alone unless you want to fill up your hard drive!

You do not have to scale the entire scene to get more blur. In the properties panel you can increase the camera sensor size in millimetres, and change the focal length accordingly to keep the same field of view. That will give you more blur.

Great video. Just a quick note: You can literally drag an image from a folder into the Blender window and it will automagically make it an image plane for you. (Or... you can simply select background images in your camera tab and choose the file from there).

You can also use the ViewLayers in the top right of the window, plus the file output nodes in compositing, so you can save your different layers separately (or have all your layers in a single file, to separate and composite later)! Great tutorials, appreciate how it goes into theory as well as implementation.

great job well done! btw you can set the default interpolation in the "preferences/animation/F-curves/default interpolation" to be linear, or set it by selecting the object transformation in graph editor and changing it using the key "T" or menu key, interpolation mode.

Really nice! Just in case you didn't know or anyone else was wondering you can skip the whole rendering to different folders by using render layers and multilayer exr files. Definitely something you should explore if you haven't already. Saves a ton of time :)

Great video as always Marco, loved this video series! Just a suggestion, you can actually add blur to grease pencil objects which uses depth of field. Just select blur as an effect on the GP object and check " Use Depth of Field" :)

SO GOOD, MARCO! I learned more in 15 or so minutes than I have in hours of courses! (The courses are good, mind, but they don’t incorporate a tv/film animator’s process. Hi Marco I love your tutorials . I've learned so much from them esp during lockdown helped me alot to improve my art. They're so fun and comprehensive and well presented . I was always a bit scared of Blender and the learning curve involved because it does so much . This is packed info but clearly presented . For the beginners who are more used to 2D and the end results are really worthwhile even if you dont want to get into the animation side of things. I know some digital artists who use blender to create better depth and 3D effect in their 2D art but I had no idea how it was done before . I'm definately going to give Blender an bash now following these tutorials . Thanks so much for sharing your inspiring content your a total master :)

Absolutely awesome work Marco! You are a great animator and I found this video very insightful. One tip for you though to save you a tedious job of re-rendering for every collection. In the top right hand side of the screen you will see a thing called "view layer". Create as many view layers as you have seperate collections you want to render. Make sure you rename them according to which collection is active. You can choose which ones are active by selecting the tick box next to the collection. Then in compositing, you can delete the viewer node, the only one thats left will be the Render Layers node. At the bottom of the node will be the View Layer which is set to render (as standard is called view layer but this will be whatever you have renamed the view layer to be). Add a 'File Output' node from the image out and change the file destination. Then duplicate the Render Layer Node and the file output node together, change the View Layer to the next one, update the file output to another destination folder and repeat for all collections. Then when you hit render, it will render as many times as you have render layers without you having to do it manually each time! Hope that made sense!

6:42 all that is not necesary, just click on the "show overlays" button on the top right corner, theres going to be an option called "fade objects" and that is pretty mkuch all you gotta do, as long as youre in draw mode every other object in scene will fade, which is easier than individualy modify every object and it doesnt show in renders so you can do it in your main scene itself

I've been learning to use Krita and davinci resolve and always had an interest in blender, but i didn't realize blender could do everything in one, just with a bit more info on screen! Gonna be sure to check the previous parts, thank you for making it so simple and intuitive to learn!
