Great tips. For details like these I prefer though to extract the faces as a new mesh and shrinkwrap, multires, and use displacement for the fine details. Keeps down the poly count on the main mesh, is non destructive, and is easy to bake the details into a low poly model.

The "aplha textures" are actualy depth-maps with an alpha chanel. Taking a picture of details and adding them this way will result in very diffrent outcomes.
@niadhson3 жыл бұрын
@@secondarycontainment4727 Yes. I said this keeping in mind the separate photo detail as a depth map.
@secondarycontainment47273 жыл бұрын
@@niadhson Just curious - how would you go about using a photo as a depth map / turning it into a depth map?
@niadhson3 жыл бұрын
@@secondarycontainment4727 Not necessarily. For that, the gray depth would have to be at the right depth and at the right angle... which I don't think you can do with a random shot. In that case I would add depth manually in image editing, or I would model the specific detail in 3D and create a map. I find it easier to draw the 2D detail from the photo.
@BlenderSecrets3 жыл бұрын
There are some methods of doing this. For example, Substance Sampler uses an AI algorithm to turn photo’s into PBR materials with depth. Results vary. There’s a free alternative as well online, where you can upload a photo and make a displacement or normal map. It’s called Normalmap Online maybe.

Im trying to come up with a compliment to express my gratitude, but I'm having a hard time so I will ask a question instead; what graphics card do you use and is there something wrong if my GeForce 1060 6GB can't handle sculpting like this? Thank you in advance and thank you for all your amazing, informative videos!
@BlenderSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Hey, graphics cards (in my limited understanding of modern computer hardware) don’t have that much impact on sculpting, which is mainly a RAM-hungry process. So, if you have 64 GB of RAM and an old graphics card, you’ll do better than with 32 GB of RAM and a newer graphics card…. I THINK - take this with a grain of salt. I’m old, and I could have told you anything about PC hardware back in the nineties. Let me know if I need to install Windows 95 for you. But oh yeah, I don’t have a fancy graphics card either. 2080 RTX, and a clunky game computer with 32 GB of RAM. It’s slow. I tend to do stuff in chunks, like this sword is easier to work on when it’s made of different objects. Hope that helps.

I´ve been using Blender for almost three years now and the only thing i can complain about its about the time that it takes to render and bake stuff, but you can use an addon called Tex Tools that solve the time issue with baking (Thanks to this channel 😄) But with all of that said: all this time i´ve been working with 8GB RAM and a 1050Ti, the processor is an old I7-3770...
