An addon that I use other than these is a pie menu addon. That is super awesome and makes your work significantly faster. We can also disable any pie menu from appearing for an individual shortcut in the addon(I always disable some of them like for save and for select etc). And one other thing is we can use the Ctrl tab for switching modes. No need to enable the tab for the pie menu option. This helps me to use the tab while I am in modelling to switch between edit and object modes and ctrl tab for switching between other modes.
@CGDive2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I used to use the pie menu editor a lot in 2.79. Blender 2.8 got much more streamlined so I didn't need it as much. And at least for my tutorials I have to give it up or many people won't be able to understand what I am doing :)

Hmm, I was not aware of the "orbit around selection" setting before. That's potentially very useful

For experienced folks Industry Compatible is probably the better choice I think. Once you extensively start using Marmoset and Unreal - just to name one common use case - you'll go nuts. Those two standardize and you'll keep screwing up as you're used to Blender. Trust me. And when you're starting it's not hard to translate Blender to this one when watching tutorials, and before two long you'll just get the idea and not the mechanics from them anyhow. There are other advantages, I rarely used the tools when I was on the Blender keymap, but in Industry they are all mapped to easy hotkeys, and I use them _all the time now_, especially for cursor placement, that's a game changer. Not many disadvantages really, other than there sometimes are missing capabilities that the Blender keymap has. But no problem, I just easily find out what those are and map them in mine.
@CGDive2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I am sure the keymap must have its fans :) I am glad it's working well for you. Obviously, everything I say in the video is my opinion which is biased. I'd still advise keeping the default shortcuts for your first weeks in Blender but whatever works, I am all for it,
@DanMcLaughlin2 жыл бұрын
I actually use a combination of the two, the basis is industry, but I overlay the best from Blender on top of that, such as the interactive edits (inset, move, scale, etc ...) But yeah whatever works, and many great tips in this video

Nice ones! Only other things I do is enabled Extra objects add-on and disable navigation buttons and make the x,y,z nav to simple.

What do you mean by " x,y,z nav to simple" ? Also not sure what the "navigation buttons" are :)}

I think navigation viewport buttons in numpad 2-7-4 and 6 rotate viewport around axis!

Ohmygod that tab to edit mode - I've been using the pie so long I thought it was default... it's not default?!!? Crazy - looks horrible to use the Tab key without the pie! All Pies should be on by default - can't really understand why they're not?

Thanks these are great settings! Do you know if theres a way to save your complete preferences and pass it to other computers? I use a laptop with Blender sometimes and I have to remember to update my preferences from my Desktop.
@Iglum2 жыл бұрын
There is a add-on from Blender that saves the settings to the cloud.
@andycuccaro2 жыл бұрын
Since we can't share links on youtube, search for "blender directory layout" and you'll find in the online manual a page detailing where are your prefs stored.
@CGDive2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the addon that was suggested but there is a manual way: On windows, go to: C:\Users\[your user]\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\[your blender version] and copy the content of the folder. Then replace the same files on your other machine. Do back up your files just in case ;)

I'd argue that is the humane thing to do. Delete it once, and save the scene. It's cruel to delete the poor thing every time you open Blender. :D

Thanks for the vid, some great tips there :) I have to say however, that your advice to "keep it simple, keep it safe" sounds like a recipe for disaster! Experiment and be free, learn as much as you can - I bet that's how you got to where you are today.

I agree. I am just keeping my own video safe. Would hate to read a comment saying: "I did what you said and blender crashed, my PC doesn't turn on anymore, then my boss fired me and my wife left me" phaha

malicious python scrips in blender :O
@CGDive2 жыл бұрын
😱😱😱 It's rather unlikely but not impossible.
@tinkerboi2 жыл бұрын
Its similar to macros in Microsoft office some malicious people uses docx file to trigger virus or Auto Run in flash drive mainly, this is to prevent blender to automatically run code when you open the file, for example, a malicious person can send a blend file that autoruns a malicious code from the script editor, the code in the script editor then can do anything they want so, what happen is if autorun is on, the code will execute when you open the file, (if it is a malicious code, then that will run too) basicly if you turn auto run on, it will make opening blend file a risk to run unwanted code
