BLENDER TUTORIAL: EPIC TOWER COLLAPSE with rbdlab!

Finally somebody made an addon that makes the process of creating a COMPLETE AND HUGE destruction simulation so easy and powerful! Which normally in blender would reaquire an eternal amount of time and frustration and would also not give the same good result!
This scene, complete with hig details pieces, particles and smoke, has been really created in less then 40 mnutes only thanks to the addon (time for baking-render not included of course!)
note: this addon is being updated day by day, the version that I use in this video might be a little different compared with the one that you will get when you watch the video, anyway the workflows dont change.

After party note: you dont really need to convert the phisics to keyframes like I did at 21:11. Still the tutotial perfectly does his job regardless.

thank you! for doing what you ask I usually do 2 things: 1) fake that "additional" destruction by boosting particles end emission value to a frame that is way after the impact on floor 2) simply use more rigid bodies chunks, the constraints will keep groups of rocks togheter in the air, until they will impact on floor, automaticly breaking in more pieces

I use an old database of sound that I found for free online, I dont remember where exactly. Sometomes I simply make the sounds I need

Hi Raffo! Thanks for this incredible tutorials, I've been always wanting to do destruction sims in Blender but find it unintuitive until I see this. I do have a question tho, I've done this a few time, but around 18:30, after I messed up with the settings and saved a few different blend. file for each results, when I open the file again, the physics no longer work. Any idea how I can fix this?

Hello. Amazing tutorial, I followed everything to the letter, now I'm at the smoke simulation part, i set the dissolve time to 100 and the cache frame end at 250 but on my timeline, it's 400. In your sample video at the beginning, the smoke dissolves and fades away but here, I'm running the simulation and once it gets to frame 250, the smoke immediately disappears and if I extend it to 400 same as my timeline, it never dissolves and fades away. Any idea how I can fix this?

great tutorial! I have a question, I've encountered such a thing, that when I'm trying to remake fracture second time, all my rbd lab panel is grey, and I can't do anything. I've checked everything, but still it's not working. And interesting - when creating completely new scene, everything starts to work fine again! Maybe you can give some advice. Thank you!

you are basicly interferring with the workflow of the addon. I had that issue once, and I realized that was my fault. Basicly before re-doing a new fracture you are supposed to click on "apply fracture", otherwise you break the workflow of the addon. I fixed that situation importing my scene in a new blender file

Hi I'm really new to blender.. I've been only using it for 3 or 4 months now...I purchased this addon however when i try to use fracture and destruction to another other buildings or structures that i let's downloaded from sketchfab the addon doesn't seem to work...is there a trick or any specific type if assets i need to look out for in order to use this addon? I am not good with modeling buildings and stuff...any advice?

I can't get the particles and dust to show up in my render despite baking and switching on the layers in the particles tab. Is there any solution?

fix it by doing this: - in the "custom debris" collection select one of them in the particles settings turn on the option "show emitter" under the render panel - do the same for all the objects in the "custom debris" collection, one by one. It happens because in rbdlab addon you should choose your custom debris BEFORE you activate the debris/dust

yeah it happened to me once too, just select the entire rigid bodies collection and then go to menu Object / set origin / origin to center of volume mass

Probably because of Blender version. I installed the 1.1.2 version of rbdlab in Blender 3.3 LTS and got an error, but it ran fine when I switched back to 2.93
