Often you'll need point distributions with non-overlapping points. Be it that you want to pack scales onto the surface of a fish or distribute vegetation on your procedural terrain. Although the "distribute points on faces" node comes with a poisson disc mode to remove overlapping points, that is not always the ideal solution. Relaxing the point positions through simulation can help in these situations. In this tutorial Manuel uses one of the experimental Geometry Nodes Simulation builds to implement a point relaxation simulation.

When I was in college, I have a classmate that use to write long codes in the board in programming classes. Me, and our classmates as well as our teachers stare in awe as he writes the codes without any notes or stopping to think about the next lines. It all comes naturally from him. Every time I watch Mr. Manuel 's tutorial, I felt that awe again back in college. Just wow! 😁

Was waiting for an Entagma GN Simulation tutorial with baited breath! I love the look of the intro with the arrows depcting the relax direction. Looking forward to simulations getting its own clock. Until then, in order to resolve the simulation quicker, we'll have to make do with increasing the project frame rate.

Few things are coming down the line. One step per frame is the first version of this. But they'll add in the ability to do sub-steps eventually. We're also going to get various kinds of loops, which will work similarly, but offer some other functionality, and independence from the frame counter. They did a whole write-up on the development blog if anyone hasn't seen that. It's going to be really interesting to see what Entagma does with the new things when this stops being an experimental feature and becomes a core part of Blender's geometry nodes in the master branch.

Oh, heck yeah! I've been playing with the simulations branch myself, to some great results, but I've been really hoping you'd jump into it before it made it into master.

Have been dying for a point relax node, this will suffice haha

Ths is cool! I tried implementing a similar system, but using the radius of the particles to determine if they are intersecting. I am facing an issue though, the particles seem to relax, but not according to their radius, which I have randomized beforehand. They are all equally spaced from their origin, but they should be spaced equally from their boundaries. The radius attribute, which is unique for each point, is being ignored in the Simulation Zone and the same value seems to be attributed to all particles when simulating their displacement. Any idea on why this might be happening?

Thank you very much for this tutorial, it's amazing. Is it possible to define a custom point radius, maybe based on object bounding box? I tried using the set radius node but it made no difference.

Would someone suggest how to setup materials for the spheres to have a similar green outline and glowing arrows inside at the moment of collision like shown in intro? Thanks!

Is there a way to also align the instance rotation to the normal of the face that is used on the proximity? i can't figure out as it only works on the first frame and then it just resets the rotation for all the instances

Yup. This is really the biggest new feature to Blender since geometry nodes itself. I've been playing around with the experimental branch since last month, and it's incredible the things you can already do with it.

Builds 3.5 and 3.6 are just crashing on me and corrupting files. I can't open them back unless I go way back, several hours, to the firsts autosaves. If anyone has a fix I'd love to hear it, I don't mind crashes but I do mind losing 2 hours of work :(

The December 10 and December 23 versions worked for me. The builds are buggy, though. I advise saving constantly to make sure you don't crash and lose your work.
