It's just to exciting to see old tutorials are still accessable these days to see how many improvement Blender has been improving in the past 10 years

Best tutorials I've seen so far. It's interesting to watch and easy to follow. And unlike most other people you don't over repeat the basics and more obvious stuff over and over again which gets really annoying and repellent to watch.

hey andrew, i don't care how long the tutorial is, as long as it is informative like yours are. If the people really want to learn blender, then they shouldn't care about how long the Tutorial is. :)

Blender might not be the most intuitive program at first glance, but when the shortcuts are in your fingers, you'll be able to model at an astonishing speed, and everything else will be very fast! :)

Not sure if you know that by now, but: instead of clicking one vertex of a mesh and then "Ctrl - L", you could simply -hover- over the vertex and click "L" It just makes things quicker :)

For a free program, that, mind you, a lot of dedicated folks put hours of hard work into, is a fantastic program.

In Gimp, windows menu -> single window mode. I also can move the layers all I want. It shows a line where you're moving the layer to. I'm on Linux though, so there might be differences. And thanks for the tutorial. Cycles tutorials are always needed and this continues on that path because it's still under development and gets new features.

Its gonna be good if he makes a tutorial for realistic materials with blender render only so we can see the difference, thumbs up if you agree.
@runizgozilla12 жыл бұрын
you didn't mention it, so in case you don't know, the IOR value stands for Index of Refraction. There are values that different materials have, for example: water is 1.333, ice is 1.309, and glass is 1.52. Just in case you didn't know :D
@Keenixo12 жыл бұрын
just a quick tip, you can add a masking texture to the roughness of the gloss... it gives you some pretty interesting shine effects
@berlinmark12 жыл бұрын
as always great work Andrew. I am hooked to your tutorials since the orange tutorial. Would be great if you could show how you could setup the materials for the orange with cycles

Amazing tutorial, this is the first time ive looking into realistic materials as im new to the whole 3D artist and blender scene. A bit fast in places but nice and in-depth. And now for the full render yikes.. The joys of being stuck with an AMD HD7970 card. No GPU compute for me. silly me i should have known all this before i purchased AMD.

Try baking in render, a new technique in blender 7.1, which bakes all your lights & shadows in a bitmap file, even good results without compromising cycles, fast enough as blender render
@RaichuWizDom12 жыл бұрын
Check the Alpha Mapping in Cycles Tutorial. It should be listed along with this one. Basically you use a mix shader of transparent and diffuse materials, with an image texture linked to the factor to map which parts need to be transparent. I think; new to it myself, only made a feather the other day ;3

I will show you my results when i can see the results you have posted above. It says page not found. Maybe a screwed up and made mine look the same and maybe it is a blender glitch but the only difference i find between the two are the speed. CUDA is faster. Happy blending!

Hi! I've been browsing your videos for a while since I've just started 3d modelling and texturing, In your other (cobble road) video, you use different textures for bump/spec, whereas here you just use colour ramps to adjust the contrast from one root texture. Is there a major difference/advantage of one over the other? Thank you so much for all the time spent on these vids, awesome work!

I'm pretty sure 3Ds Max can do a lot more than blender. I've heard animating in max is way better and you can download countless user-made plug-ins to use in 3ds max for pretty much any thing. It's also a good program to know because a lot of companies in the industry use it. Although it's expensive, students can get a free licence from Autodesk.

A question: is it possible to "restrict" the effect of a node/group of nodes in a object??. The thing is that I have a diffuse texture that has metal and skin. Recently I've found a bundle of materials for blender cycles, and I wanted to know if there is possible to apply certain material in certain parts of the texture and some other material in other part of the same texture.

why are you confused about the mix node/multiply node? It says 0.5 at the beginning so the bumpmapping is reduced by a half. this makes sense for me

To elaborate: he said "only supports CUDA," which sounds as if that is the only rendering option at all. It isn't. It's the only GPU rendering option. You can also render cycles on the CPU, it's just slower. You can't yet use AMD (ATI) cards, though.
