Was a volunteer firefighter when Hugo came through. Drop my wife and 3 month old daughter off at my sister's when they called me out. 48 hours later I came home . I wouldn't trade what I've done in my life for anything. Seldom ever got a thank you. Love the guys I had the honor to serve with. God bless these artists and the people of the carolina Mountains.

Sad that times like these you find the government isn't really on any of our sides.. only their own! Americans step up to help each other even those who live across the country! We live in Oregon and have been here since 1950's but my biological father is from NC as is 6 generations before him! My heart has been wanting to go to NC to stand where he and my ancestors stood. PS my bio died aged 47 in 1995 heart attack and he had divorced mom when i was 7 so i've had no contact with him or my bio's family all of my life. My heart still belongs to NC. God Bless you all.
