Hard to believe that this great song didn't even make the Top 40.
@BernardProfitendieu3 ай бұрын
unfortunately, the lyrics were too trite, beautiful melody and unmatched vocal, but no one wanted to hear a song about statues falling off pedestals in 1969. They shoulda brought somebody in to rework the lyrics before recording.

Also,”Welcome me love” was. the flip side and various radio stations played one side and other stations played the other side so air play became split.

OMG! The man can sing. Johnny Maestro can sing! Every time I hear him sing, I get down on my knees and thank God for giving him such an incredible voice!!!! I can listen to him sing continuously!!! The man can sing!!!! He's the best singer of all time far as I'm concerned. His stage presence is incredible!!!! The Brooklyn Bridge doo wop backup singers accommodated him well. I miss you and you incredible voice. R.I.P. Johnny Maestro.

Johnny started singing with the Crests in 1957. How many singers stay at the top of their game for more than half a century? He's one of the greats.

How can any voice be clearer? What range, what lyrics, what back-up. I met Johnny and BB at the Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach in 1971. Although he's gone, he and they were and still are simply awesome. Their music is at the top of my all-time favorite chart. Nothing about today's music can top this.

I met Johnny and the Brooklyn Bridge in 1971, when they played The Peppermint Lounge in Virginia Beach. He sure was a nice guy, so friendly and approachable, and the Brooklyn Bridge was fabulous. Although they had hits bigger than "Blessed is the Rain," this has always been one of my favorite songs. What a voice; what a song. When I learned that Johnny had died a few years ago, I was really sad, because he could sing like almost no one else and probably like no one else ever will.

I've seen Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge several times and I can never get enough of them. Awesome group. Blessed(yesterday) the Rain is another beautiful songs of our genre. Whatever happened to that music. The were pretty good as the Crests too.

its absolutely amazing that back in 68-69 we were embroiled in every social upheaval from soup to nuts. But in all that groups like this still would emerge and take us away (momentarily) from our problems! 1969 Forever!

Ralph Sanchico I graduated from high school in 1969. I met Johnny Maesto in 1971, when he and the Brooklyn Bridge performed in Virginia Beach, VA, at the Peppermint Lounge. He was a nice guy and probably one of the best singers of all time. From the time he sang with The Crests, his voice never changed. When I was 60, I had plans for him and Brooklyn Bridge to perform at my birthday party. But, then he died, and that very happy thought went with him. I never get tired of hearing him sing. People say that Roy Orbison had multi-level octave range. Well, I say Johnny Maestro did, too. I miss him. No one sings like him today, and, today, a lot of music is just noise to me. Those were the days, for sure! Thanks for your post and for letting me respond to it.

WOW, what love written here. Thank You Norm N. Nite, Lou Christie and Joey Dee for sharing some great memories about Johnny's career that was broadcast live from the RRHOF last Saturday on Sirius/XM. Joey Dee said it well that Johnny deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I'm sure we all second that emotion.
@peterjensen74176 жыл бұрын
please I believe Johnny Maestro cannot get into the Hall of Fame without either the Brooklyn Bridge or the crest. he was the lead singer of both groups.
@Bencivenga159114 жыл бұрын
Johnny was one of the native New Yorkers who was born on the lower east side of NYC. I had the privilege of seeing him perform many times from the Crests to the Brooklyn Bridge. Always did the best because he is one of the best. If Frankie Valli is famous in the play "Jersey Boys" a new play should be written for Johnny called 'The Boys of the Lower East Side' Worst that could happen is his early passing ! If there's a Rock and Roll Heaven I know They Have A Hell Of A Band... Love Ralph & Pat

The most fun summer of my life! Turned 16, got my driver's license, and broke up with a creep who I was afraid of.
