Thank you Rishabh for picking my portfolio for the review and also using my rendering for thumbnail (which was unexpected). It was really insightful to get comments from both of you. I will consider these helpful comments to update my portfolio later. Love the idea of adding image to communicate the feeling of staying above the water and below the building. one thing I would like to disagree would be, the addition of picture as I believe my work should make first impression. other than that, really appreacte you guys taking time to do reviews. its always great to have different perspective. By the way, I am Srijan Sunar.

Very insightful video, I like that Viviano speaks directly to the people watching, and You can see that his „yes?” and „yeah?” additions to the ends of sentences are a byproduct of being a professor and I caught myself answering my screen sometimes like „right, got it”. Amazing

his form of advice is my favorite. I would recommend people to teach like viviano is going to be doing, with real money and real projects.

Very insightful! As a migrant in a new country, the reality of being challenged to reintroduce yourself and your design experience is a lot of work. Also, Viviano is right about making the right network. Nobody knows you locally and you really need to work hard to create meaningful connections.

hi Ritik this is Viviano. It’s in Pixels, and yes it good quality for printing however it will not fit a standard paper size so you’ll have to cut some paper edges

For the photo, you generally don't need it there's a reason why some guests say don't add one for the unconscious bias issue. So that every candidate is treated fairly.

I can appreciate a good criticism when I see fit, but Viviano even though has criticized every single one of these portofolios in a very objective way, leaves very little room for improvement as far as the design itself of the different programs on each an every single portofolio we had seen on this channel, Viviano is great at pointing exactly what is missing .....but it does not show you with examples how it should be done,....in the last project, the one where this profesional interior designer shows everything right, ...Viviano criticizes the size of the pages on this portofolio, and if I am not mistaken, he went on to pick on her font size as well....I think Vivianos way of getting the work done is on the defensive side and it might help if he would show us what does an outstanding portofolio looked like amd what software does he use to be able to get to that level of excellence in design.

They always say put sketches or hobbies when applying to university (masters) but I don’t sketch buildings it’s more of fashion illustration would it be a wise decision to include it under hobbies and skills ?

I understand its natural that an employer would want to see a photo of the applicant, but I don't think he can empathize with the plight of minorities, or just people who don't fit mainstream views of attractiveness. Statistically conventionally beautiful people land jobs and higher wages at greater rates, and that's just a fact. Even short men get paid statistically less than their taller counterparts. I think the very first impression should be anonymous across the board so that no one gets an unfair advantage.

Thank you for the great video! I have to ask though, why in the world are we still doing arch portfolio in PDF form? Every other industry is doing websites. I don't see the benefit other than printing and so old school recruiters at firms can download and save them. Can someone explain this? The idea that recruiters can't save links is absurd. I've worked in the advertising industry for several years now. We do project based work just like arch projects. The only form of portfolio excepted is website. If you sent in a PDF you would be laughed at. Explain why it is different?

Why do you need to see the person behind the portfolio before even interviewing them? Is it because you want to hire pretty girls, for example? If you like their portfolio, then meet them-they can see you, and you can see them. Simple. You only need to consider what makes you move forward to the interview stage, and their appearance doesn’t matter because you’re not hiring models here. So, stop asking for things you’re not supposed to ask for because it comes across as creepy.

I thank both of you for the video. This is about portfolio review but I would like to add something which is maybe irrelevant. what I understand is this sector is so cruel and unfair. You sacrifice your whole life to get a job and a random guy (GOD ARCHITECT) hires you or not based on your portfolio in an arrogant way. A nice perspective doesnt mean that you are a talented architect or the opposite. Portfolio is just a comminication (!) (few seconds that people know (!) you well) between you and your future employer. Customers dont live or experience the presentation skills. They experience real life. Someone who doesnt have a golden portfolio can be a really talented architect. I had a chance to work with awarded ones whom our pop-fan-world exaggerate, result is well presented but unlivable projects... (He couldnt even find a space for a boiler and demolished some partf of a cultural heritage)...

That is why a well-curated porfolio represents not only your skill capabilities, but your learning journey, interests, and depth. Sure you might be better in person than on paper but 80% of the work is the first impression and that's your portfolio and CV. Once your foot is in the door you're judged on your ability to communitcate with others, your mannerisms and your personality (all of which are then measured to or against your portfolio). Your work is only as good as the context it is given. if you can draw blueprints at 14 years old with 0 years of experience youre a god, but if you can do it at 54 with 30 years of experience its an expectation.
