There's something interesting about the contrast between Athena and Reapers. When you receive Athena's Blessing, you're gathered by those who see you as a friend to the end. With the Ritual of the Flame, it's basically you sacrificing yourself for the sake of the Reapers and for your own selfish greed, showing you are out for yourself with no allies by your side.

I've maxed out the neutral factions. I'm working on reapers and servants now. I went ahead and decided to watch the curse ceremonies. Quite by accident, I've set my pirate up for a redemption story. A swabbie gets seduced by the flame and sells himself to Flameheart. They use him to infiltrate the Athenas and along the way he ends up as one of their most valuable members.

I’m 2018 my old friend group had told me of this game called sea of thieves. We played, looted, and most importantly of all, we enjoyed ourselves. Return to now where that old friend group became toxic and I moved away. Another friend group was around during that time but most in this friend group have disappeared due to some drama. I started playing the game again in 2022, a lot had changed in the game and in real life. A couple of us in the other friend group (3 others) (not the toxic one I had left) reconnected and looked back on why the friend group disappeared instead of blaming each other. Then, we played. We set our differences aside, forgave, and played. Because that’s what it’s about. It’s all about the game, Not betrayal and hatred. So when I got this cutscene for myself I didn’t just think about the personal hardship it took to get the curse, I thought about how through thick and thin this friend group who has had an incredible amount of bumps in the sea was still able to persevere and still enjoy ourselves. That’s what Athena’s Fortunes about. Did I cry during this cutscene? Maybe a tad bit. Did me and my friends earn it together? Absolutely. Thank you Sea of Thieves, for everything.

I love the juxtaposition between the faction cutscenes. During the Blessing you're treated to a speech and congratulations, and everyone acts like they consider you an equal among legends. But during the Ritual of the Flame (my chosen faction) you're distantly watched by other cultists, and assured of your position as one of many cogs in a greater machine. One makes you feel unique and special, the other tells you "good job, there's more work to be done". An interesting peek into the mindsets and deeper philosophies of both factions and their perspective on what they're fighting for.

I am as well but while it still is cool don't get me wrong it feels like this keeps happening. Like first Pirate Legend was it, then Athena 10, then Athena 20, then Athena 30, then finishing the Veil, and now getting level 100 in the Guardians faction, and then once again with level 1000 it just seems like there is continuous ways to make you "feel like a legend". Good or bad I don't know but I'm just saying it because it seems that way, I'm enjoying it though. Only thing is I highly doubt I'll get to level 1000, definitely not in both, and definitely not anytime soon if ever, 100 is hard enough, 200 is even more so.

one minor complaint is that DeMarco doesn't make an appearance here. It would've been sick if after you got the blessing, the pirate lord would tell you he's proud, then say that someone special wanted to meet you, then DeMarco would appear and give you the seadog wave, congratulate you on your combat skills, and his presence there would've meant Ramsey cares enough about his son to at least let his spirit join his ghostly crew

This is basically a good ending to a game while the skelly curse feels like a terrible ending that you chose the wrong path, in the athenas blessing you get to join the crew and have a huge ceremony as it isnt often that a new crewmate is added, and the pirate lord shows respect towards you! But in the skeleton curse you are sacrificing yourself to a evil being who has no respect for you and sees you as just another slave. I would rather get athenas blessing tbh

I wont lie this is a moment of the game that got me truly emotional. To me this whole cutscene feels like the big reward to your journey not just with the hourglass, but evertthing that has brought you to this point. The pirate lord watching you as if he knew from day one, from the moment you met them, that you were desinted for greatness, and that it is why the pirate's life chose you. All the ghosts coming in to cheer and rejoice to your newfound alleigance to me feels like its every player crewmate youve had alongside you on your voyages have came to celebrate. The old players that helped teach you the ropes, the new players youd help teach, the alliances you formed, the friends you made. It feels like every person that helped you get to this point was there with you to rejoice in a decision that will change your life for its better. Its moments like this that really make me love this game. It makes you feel so in the moment

I love how the Reapers (Servants of the Flame) and the Athenas Fortune blessings and what they sing/say is direct opposites. In Athenas, its a blessing how Athena, for eternal life among those alike you, you now sail alongside and togheter with all the others like you, a part of a large crew, where all are equal, and they sing songs of the glory and more which shall come from everyone sailing togheter, against the opression of kings and others. The Reapers, Servants of the Flame, give their life to become immortal under Flameheart, they are but an elite in a pact under one ruler, a pact which means naught on the sea, and they speak of how they shall sink and kill all others on the sea, the in the name of the flame, how noone shall know peace. Its amazing, especially how in Athena, you are an ally, and want no enemies, but the Servants of the Flame proclaim Athena and the Pirate Lord their eternal enemy, showing even more just the difference between the two.
