The reason your Gramm taught you to wrap the thread around your button after you've sewn it on is so that your button will be a little raised, making it easier to button and unbutton it. It also helps to strengthen the stitching in the button. BTW, I think that your ideas are marvelous and you're right, "They are soooo cuuuute!" I can't wait to give them a try.

That’s actually a very securely sewn button. The way you instinctively wrapped the thread around the threads holding the button on left enough room to button onto something thick. Same idea as buttons on a winter coat.

@JaimeDornanLady
@JaimeDornanLady Ай бұрын
When making the towels, you can also cut the towels in half at the seam horizontally & sew one half on a potholder instead of both halves, so you get two completed towels rather than one! It honestly depends on what you want to actually use them for and how thick you want your towels to be. Some pple. just want them to be used as a decoration, so one half would be perfect! Also, if you don’t use them but for a quick hand drying towel, then wash it, it would work for that, too!

I took a potholder, sewed on a button. Then wrapped it around my metal gate, that slides open for me to drive my car threw, and position the pot holder in a place where I grab the gate to open it. In the summer the gate is scalding hot. It allows me to open the gate without burning my hands. It's been on there for years, and it is time to replace it. But I do love your crafted ideas too. I'm going to be retiring soon, so I'll have more free time to do things like this. Your sewing kit idea gave me an idea. Can make the same thing and use it in a diaper bag or even a purse for small items. Diaper bag: nail clippers, Neosporin, Band-Aids, hand wipes, etc Purse: medicine, bandaids, Neosporin, hair ties, etc, maybe even small jewelry....

That last idea with the strap could be sewn in series to make a space saving wall hanging. Especially in a tiny home or rv. You could use it to hold things like sandwich bags, grocery bags, cookie cutters and other easily misplaced odds and ends even display artificial flowers . It could hold toys and craft supplies for visiting grandchildren or make it a hanging diaper change station for a new baby ❤. And you could make one for each holiday season as a useful decoration ❤

Those pot holders are so beautiful if only we could afford to make patchwork bedspreads out of them, it would cut down on so much of the extra work in making those beautiful patchwork spreads that take so much dedication and sewing to design. The wrapping thread and tying off, making knot in thread to sew was taught to my 8 th grade Home Economics class in 1968. The wrapping is part of making a shank for flat buttons. Another hack taught was to hold a straight pin over top of button and every pass over the top of button goes over the pin,do the wrapping around to finish,tie off pull out straight pin and you have some flexibility when closing . Been sewing buttons this way a long time.

You gave me an idea: How about making a hot bowl holder and include a soup packet with a bowl or mug as a small gift? (Please consider showing how to make a hot bowl holder that can be used in the microwave.) Thanks!

This is actually very inspirational. I really like the concept of the second project, but I would try to find a way to make it more durable. Maybe wrap the ziplocks in decorative duct tape first or something. I love the idea!

You can seal the edges of the sandwich bags with an iron. Put parchment paper on top and bottom of the edges and use an iron just hot enough to seal the bags.

The thing is that snack size bags aren't made with the slider closure, unfortunately.
@ourcreativebeehive
@ourcreativebeehive 2 ай бұрын
@@RaeCarson When I have made them, I didn't want slide closures. It bulks them up. I made them for homeless men and women to hold personal items.
@RaeCarson
@RaeCarson 2 ай бұрын
While it does make them slightly bulkier, the slider bags tend to last far longer since the extra strain and tension put on the plastic is greatly lessened. There's also less tendency for the bags themselves to accidentally develop a blow-out at the top.

You have a wonderful energy and a natural gift for getting people motivated. My mom sewed like a pro and I remember being very young (like 4) when I saw her making a knot in the thread that way. She slowed it way down for me so could learn and I never forgot it.

Very fun watching you make your creations. I also learned to wrap the thread around the button several times. It helps the button move a bit to go in and out of the button hole or loop. Without the wrapping of the thread, the button is too tight and hard to move in and out of the button hole. Keep on creating great crafts! I love what you said about “ done is better than perfect “!!!! 🤩
