Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished” (Matthew 5:17-18)

MG 868 January 5th, 2022 Abigail, Nabal & David Romans 6 speaks about our freedom from sin (the Old Master). We who were slaves to sin were freed through our death in Christ Jesus who became our new Master. In Romans 7 , Paul speaks freedom from the Law through an illustration about marriage. Romans 7. 1 Do you not know, brothers and sisters -for I am speaking to those who know the law-that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? Paul was mainly spoke to the Jews who were bound to the Law. But the Law had authority only it the person lives. Verse 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man. 4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. A woman is bound to her husband through a marriage covenant which was higher than any contract. She was free only when her husband dies. Here, the first husband Mr Law does not die but a child of God or the Church who is pictured as the wife, dies and is free from her husband. In 1 Samuel 25 we read about David and Abigail. David had been anointed by Prophet Samuel to be King Of Israel as King Saul need not God’s expectations. But after killing Goliath, David became more popular than King Saul which made Saul jealous of David and desired to kill him. David with many men (refugees) had to live in hiding. During this time, he met with Nabal who a very rich but foolish and wicked man. David and his men had protected Nabal’s sheep. One day, David and his men asked if they could be invited to their sheep shearing festival. Nabal rudely refused which angered David. The news of this insult reached the ears of Nabal’s wife Abigail. She was a woman of noble character: wise and beautiful who was married to a very foolish and cruel drunkard. She acted quickly. She packed gifts and met David. In Verses 23-31 we see what happened: When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed down before David with her face to the ground. She fell at his feet and said: “Pardon your servant, my lord, and let me speak to you; hear what your servant has to say. Please pay no attention, my lord, to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name-his name means Fool, and folly goes with him. And as for me, your servant, I did not see the men my lord sent. She pleaded on behalf of her people and prophetically exalted David as the ‘appointed ruler over Israel”. Through her timely words of wisdom and action, she saved everyone. 1 Samuel 25:35 Then David accepted from her hand what she had brought him and said, “Go home in peace. I have heard your words and granted your request.” 36 When Abigail went to Nabal, he was in the house holding a banquet like that of a king. He was in high spirits and very drunk. So she told him nothing at all until daybreak. 37 Then in the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him all these things, and his heart failed him and he became like a stone. About ten days later, the LORD struck Nabal and he died. When David heard the news that Nabal was dead, he sent for her to become his wife. Abigail in the Old Testament is a shadow of who we are. She was bound to a cruel husband which can be compared to our first husband Mr Law. We had no peace with Mr Law just as Abigail had no peace. But when Nabal died and she married David, who is the shadow of the New Testament Jesus, she had peace. David was the “Anointed One”/ a man after God’s own heart/ a King. Jesus is also a good man/ a man who pleases the Father/ anointed King/ a person of noble character. There is no one else like Jesus. The only difference in the situation is that in the first story, Nabal died but in the New Testament, we died. However, when Nabal died, she was able to marry a good person. This is the analogy that Paul was trying to explain to us. We are free from Law and has become the Bride of Christ. What a glorious experience!!! This Christ cares for us and loves us.

Abigail, nabal, David How to grow in salvation according to Christ Often some people are active in church but their inner soul is diminished and scattered Romans 6- freedom from sins Romans 7- freedom from the law, bond to Christ Do you not know, brothers and sisters-for I am speaking to those who know the law-that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? For Example - if a person commits traffic violations and at the end died in an accident and then is found guilty under the law but after death how can he be punished for his offense by law In the same way, marriage is a higher level of relationship between husband and wife For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 . So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man. 4.So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God 1 samule :1-42 While in the wilderness, David's men asked a wealthy man named Nabal for supplies. Nabal insulted David's men and refused to help them. David intended to slay Nabal and his servants, but Nabal's wife, Abigail, interceded and calmed David, who spared Nabal's life. But latter naval died ... When nabal dies David asked abhigyl to marry him, here abhigyl refers to us from new testament and her first husband refers to law of old testament And David refers to Christ the king . the only difference their was that nabal died and here we (wife )died. Here the analogy Paul referring is we got freedom from the law and got bond to Christ the almighty Amen
