It's 1989 and I am sitting alone in my mom's garage, after having a garage sale that day to sell the rest of her belongings. She had passed away 3 months prior. Anyway, I was looking across the road at the little country church and a field that lay beyond it. The sun was just above the horizon - soon to set. I had a Enya cassette tape playing and her song "Miss Claire Remembers" came on and to this day, I can feel that perfect peace that I felt, at that moment in time. I am convinced it was a gift from above, an extra measure of comfort when I so needed it.🌹🙏

Enya is a musical legend whom I have been listening to for decades. Her music is ethereal in its magic. Being Irish, her native language is actually Gaeilge, or Irish Gaelic, which she uses in some of her songs. She composes most of her songs, and everything she does is exceptional. She was contacted by Peter Jackson to specifically compose her music for the Lord of the Rings movies, because he wanted it to sound magical. Some of my favorites of hers are Caribbean Blue, China Roses, Wild Child, Amarantine, and It's in the Rain. You must listen to It's in the Rain; it's just awesome, as is most of her songs.

I last saw them on Valentines Day 2014 at the MIM in Phoenix. Alas, Moya's uncle Pádraig died two years later, and uncle Noel died just last year. "In a Lifetime" was a minor hit for them ( because of Bono, of U2 lending some vocals ), and "The Theme to Harry's Game" was also a big hit, and was also used in the Harrison Ford / Jack Ryan movie "Patriot Games". @@Palitato I've seen a lot of paperwork from other inmates. Helping people with appeals and the likes. The number of innocent people in prison is a lot higher than the public knows about. But the time in prison changes most people, and they cannot conform back to being in society. Too many people came back, only because society refused to give a chance to a convicted felon. Once a person sees himself as a convict, or sees the social injustice of the system, the desire to be law-abiding drastically diminishes.

Why doesn't she tour? Because for most of her songs she sings all of the vocals (which is why the harmonies are so perfect) and plays most, if not all of the instruments, and it takes the technological capability of overdubbing to display her genius. Glad you finally tried Enya! She is the best-selling Irish solo artist in history, and 2nd best selling Irish artist behind only U2. Many more great songs from her: Orinoco Flow (aka Sail Away), Caribbean Blue, How Can I Keep from Singing?, and especially Book of Days (featured in the movie Far and Away).

Enya is known as a Celtic New-Age artist... If you like her I think you would also like Loreena McKennitt. She is also New-Age but she melds Celtic and Middle Eastern music. One of her biggest commercially successful songs was "The Mummer's Dance". One of my personal favorites by her is the "Marrakesh Night Market". Her music is very dynamic and her voice hauntingly beautiful. She uses a number of different instruments in her music... Celtic Harp, Fiddle, conga drums, accordion... she manages to intertwine both Celtic rhythms and middle eastern into a emotional journey to exotic places.

Yes, Enya is classed as New Age but I've never thought that very accurate. She is her own genre. McKennit's Mummer's Dance is great!

@@dmandrewsauthor Unfortunately the category of "New Age" has become a catch all music category for any music that that can be considered soothing/relaxing that doesn't fit any of the other standard music genres.

Enya is my stress reliever, happy brain chemical producer, time machine to my 20s, meditation guide... I think my favorite song of hers is "How Can I Keep From Singing?" That song brings me out of my body like no other. My dad loved her music and he was taken way too soon in 1996 at the age of 61... we played that song at his memorial, so that just adds another layer to where her voice takes me.

I'm a hard core metal head. I listen to the heaviest, darkest metal out there. I am not one bit ashamed to say that I love Enya. I have all her albums and some soundtracks from movies that feature her.She is heaven sent no doubt.

Ugh...i'm pretty sure she can be easily fall into - celtic/folk/ethnic/trip-hop/downtempo category...nothing unique about that, there are gazillion of artists of this kind...Enya and her sister Moya are just top of the line...

Her voice is unique though...there lots of celtic artists, but what sets her apart from the rest is her way of singing! It's not the style and genre she sings in, it's HOW she sings it...

One thing that sets Enya apart is her dedication to making every song as beautiful as possible. If you think about it, not many musicians strive for pure beauty, but Enya always does.

I've been listening to Enya for decades. Her voice triggers those creative juices I need to express my inner self. I listen to her exclusively when I paint. I still listen to the same CD I bought in 1997 "Paint the Sky with Stars" If you engage in any creative activity, this is the album to listen to while your art blossoms. Thanks for the reaction!

Enya is nothing short of a Celtic Goddess! She’s been producing this unique style of adult contemporary music for decades now, and originated with her family’s band ‘Clannad’. They remain active, though she was only with them for a very short period of time before going solo. 1. Orinoco Flow 2. Caribbean Blue 3. Book of Days 4. Storms in Africa 5. Watermark (short, no vocals) If you want a taste of Clannad, and a sound very similar to Enya, they have a slow, whispy/chanty, Christmas song called “Dealramh Go Deo”. It’s in Irish or Celtic maybe. Close your eyes and fall even further into your chair.

Enya's first big single in the US was Sail Away (Orinoco Flow) and it was a really big deal at the time. Would be an excellent follow up to this reaction. Enya is a the little sister to another really amazing irish vocalist, Moya Brennan, the lead singer for the band Clannad. If you are interested, Clannad also works in this irish folk/new age style of music. One of their songs, 'Theme from Harry's Game," is heavily sampled in popular music.

Fun fact from the internet ... Enya's real name is Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin. In English that would be Enya Patricia Brennan. Her older sister, Moya Brennan, is the principal lead singer for the Irish folk band "Clannad", where Enya also got her start. Clannad also has a huge repertoire with some significant hits and major motion picture credits in 'Harry's Game' and ' Last of the Mohicans'. My favorite compositions from Enya are "Orinoco Flow" and "May it Be". Celtic Women also have beautiful versions of both but Enya's originals are beautifully ethereal.

Enya is a former member of the family group, Clannad. They also have a lot of songs with a similar sound. I would recommend their album, "Anam". It has "Theme from Harry's Game" which was also used in the film "Patriot Games" with Harrison Ford. Other songs from that album I recommend are "Anam", "The Poison Glen", and "In a Lifetime" which features Bono from U2. Also, another beautiful song from an Irish woman I hope you listen to is "Never Saw Blue" (4:28 length) by Haley Westenra. It will make you cry tears of joy.
