I love the Cranberries - I worked in Dublin in the late 80s - I recall a story from an Irish mate that her school principal used to get the whole school to stop and listen to her sing in morning assemblies and I can easily believe that - her singing is just so hauntingly beautiful, so pure and unique - and such pitch perfect delivery. No one comes close - so sad she left us too early...

Part of how she got that beautiful voice she had was when she was young growing up in Ireland her father taught her how to yodel. I don't know why she let herself go into an alcohol coma in a bathtub where she drowned because she had 3 kids too. In any event she went way too soon.
@DrummerGrrrlАй бұрын
@jimo3173 Depression is absolutely debilitating and robs one of sense. My mother was Irish and killed herself by drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes until it was too late to save her. She and my Dad both did this. Both suffered from chronic depression. They had everything to live for, but the depression won. I lost my Dad when I was eight and my mother, four years later.

@@DrummerGrrrl I'm sorry to hear about your parents. No kid should ever have to go through losing both parents at such a young age. I see by your handle you play the drums. That's cool. As a music teacher, watching you two listen to the guitar solo side by side is my very favorite part of this video. The way you’re physicalizing the different elements of the music is fantastic; one of you bopping to the beat (as you then reveal is your background with rap/hip-hop) while the other sways smooth to the spacey guitar/synth solo. Your appreciation for the structure of the track… honestly made me tear up. When I dream of the kinds of music consumers my students will be when they grow up, I pray they end up like this. Forever seeking to expand their horizons, find meaning in music they didn’t previously understand, and most of all, APPRECIATING DOLORES’S CASUAL OPERATIC BADASSERY IN ALL ITS GLORY 😂😂😂 earnestly, NEVER stop doing this!

Linger was The Cranberries second single, and first huge hit. Dreams was the first single, and it was rereleased as a single after the success of Dreams. I was starting out in college at the time, and I remember Linger being everywhere at the time. The music video is great as well, with a film noir aesthetic. The guitar style is heavily inspired by the first album's producer, Stephen Street, who produced a lot of work for The Smiths.

I've seen at least 100 of your reactions by now over the past year to some of my favorite songs, but after you two described the journey you have been on musically the past year, it felt like I needed to say "thank you" at least once. You guys are at the top of my music reaction channel content creators, and as you know, there must be 100s of them. It speaks to how well you present your videos, your chemistry and your sincerity. And just to quickly mention this song in particular, it is fitting to leave a comment now, because this is one of those tracks I love listening to all the time. Its just a beautiful piece of music and special as it was the first "hit" for the Cranberries. A band I didn't give enough credit to in the moment, because at that age, I was into more aggressive-sounding music. As the years go by though, Dolores' voice just gets better every time I hear it. Such an amazing talent she was. One of my biggest regrets as a fan of live music was never giving myself a chance to see her perform live. A one-in-a-billion voice, and I may be estimating too low.
