I am in ICU now recovering from 4 hours of being under during heart surgery. As I was waiting for the nurse to wheel me into surgery this morning, l had time to play your piece “Abide with me “. I have listened to it hundreds of times since i commented on it two years ago. As I listened again before surgery this morning, the peace and assurance of the Master came over me and I knew whatever happens Jesus and I would never be separated. Thank you for playing it just for me today John Geels

I love this kid. He took a beloved old hymn we’ve all sang and turned it into a Bach cantata. He’s a modern day Furruccio Busoni. I love it when young people behave and perform their lives as if they were around for an hundred years. I praise this kids Parents.

Terry Purvis ....the beginning is haunting, and played with such affection.....though I feel the piece is an Ode..a farewell to Western Civilization. Will this young man marry and have many children (as JSB did)....probably not. I’m also to blame. “Abide with me oh Lord, fast falls the evening tide”. The metaphors are everywhere to be seen. There is an excellent arrangement of Handel’s Largo by an English organist played on a Willis Organ in a beautiful dark Victorian gothic church in England. The console is set within an inglenook and a springer arch all in carved oak cabinetry. Look it up on KZbin and just listen. It’s also hauntingly sublime and played as if the casket was in repose in the Sanctuary. Lol! It too is an Ode to the West. These glorious empty churches. What will become of them when “the religion of peace” take over....as they multiply in replication like mattress critters. It won’t be pretty.

Henry Lyte was dying of tuberculosis at age 45 when he wrote the lyrics of Abide With Me. Your improvisation marvelously captures the calm, serene, beautiful and solid faith expressed by Rev. Lyte. Thank you! Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see- O Thou who changest not, abide with me. I need Thy presence every passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness; Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies; Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Warwick Aiken. That was a beautiful rendition of ABIDE WITH ME.When my dad died in 1946 and I was 9 years old that was the song the music was at the cemetery when the procession walked in.My dad graduated from the Chicago Conservatory in 1911 and was a church organist,Pipe organ & piano tuner along with 4 of his six sons including me.I listen frequently to PIPE DREAMS on NPR with Michael Barrone as Pipe Organ music is my favorite.

He is definitely a gift from God. I watched him play another piece and wept because it came to me that perhaps some of those in attendance may have been those who, during the German Occupation by Hitler were reduced to eating tulip bulbs in order to survive. He even looks almost angelic when he plays and one can see that the music fills him with joy, and those of us who love music deeply can understand that. It touches our very souls bring us into the presence of Almighty God.
