I have a blind cat and she can do anything that a cat can do but see. She chases and fetches paper balls, her favorite, and loves her ping pong ball in the bathtub. She is my hero.

Our cat just lost her sight from a stroke and is having a tough time navigating. It’s hard for her and us. I wonder how long it will take for her to get around without bumping her poor little head?
@SirotanParkHanedaGarden5 ай бұрын
@@valeriegallagher8366 I think that cats that became blind when they were born or since they were a kitten navigate better because they are used to using all of their senses other than vision to navigate. It should take a while for your cat to get used to navigating without vision, maybe around a year or so. You cat probably just isn't used to it.

One of our cats just had her eyes removed, it is very hard. But seeing this video is giving me hope and faith she will be fine. Thank you so much!

I've had a couple of totally blind cats in my time. Your little one will be just fine. 😊 Cats don't rely on their eyesight as much as humans do, so while for us blindness is really daunting (our world is designed around being able to see), for cats, they're more reliant on touch, hearing (they have a broader range than dogs!) smell and proprioception.

Hello, after so long (your comment is a year old) how is your cat doing? I adopted a kitten and is blind (both eyes removed after severe worms), I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it.

Could’ve fooled me! The way she explores and sniffs doesn’t look too different from how a seeing cat does! A whole new room, how exciting:)

My almost 18 yrs young Meggy, lost a lot of her eyesight at the turn of this year and was diagnosed with high blood pressure and kidney failure. She's stable now, but her eyesight hasn't returned...and now we are facing a move to a new home in a month. I'm terrified she'll have trouble adapting but this video gave me hope! thank you for sharing!!

cleopatra is amazing. and your living room looks beautiful! love the decor. as a cat mum to a blind persian cat the amount of chairs made me a bit uncomfortable though :D my cat gets around the apartment perfectly, the only difficulties are chairs since they sometimes are in a slightly different position or angle and he cannot detect the chair legs as easily as a long sofa for example that has a larger surface. i should commit to the sitting cushion life style.

Thank you so much! I really needed to see this. My 8-year-old boy is suddenly completely blind. He's adapting quickly but is still on the struggle bus. It's helpful to see a seasoned blind cat map out a new room. This gives me hope!

If we look closely, most cats have 3 layers off fur. What's important here is the last layer is very sparse but often nearly twice as long as the next layer. Literally "whiskers" all over their body! These not only "touch" but can feel air currents as well. P.S. Love your captions.
@Iknowknow1123 жыл бұрын
That’s what I thought, that some how she was sensing air currents or lack of them. I remember hearing my cat navigate in an almost totally dark room during a blackout like he had been practicing for forever.

I have a blind cat also. I see we acclimated them to the house pretty much the same way! I never did it for him but I did scratch and tap my fingers on things so that he'd know they were there. Your cat does the same thing mine does! Uses his paws to test for edges, most of the time he sniffs loudly and does a kind of bat sonar things as the sound comes back to his ears he'll know that a wall or something large is coming up. The rungs on the bottoms of chairs have been more difficult, not much for the sniffing sonar to bounce off of. I found my little boy when he was 5 weeks old and nearly frozen to death. My sighted cat helped me teach the blind one. He is very protective of his little brother.

Maggie, my kitty has monocular vision, she does not jump high like other cats do, she is very cautious when getting down from a table, and she can't sense 'depth'. Her world is bi-dimentional. She chose me as her guardian human when I visited the shelter she was living in. I am not impressed by Cleo, meaning that I am well aware of what cats can do even with the saddest disabilities.....have a wonderful life, little big Cleo.....🐈
@deveusdude2 жыл бұрын
I have a one eye cat and she can tell depth and if she wants to jump from things or not. I'm not exactly sure how but somehow her brain has adapted. She was like that from a kitten. Did your cat lose an eye later in life?

So weird thing about cats, all species of cats have a fairly inconvenient blind spot, this blind spot is basically a zone directly in front of their face where they cannot see a thing, so they instead use their whiskers to confirm what is in front of them. Yes this does mean that when a cat pounces, it is making a blind attack, and they are relying on their whiskers to confirm that they got what they did. Now if this one’s whiskers are bit worn out, she may be using a mixture of smell, sound, and touch to map out her surroundings.

did you go through with it? :) my cat turned blind after a stroke and experiencing him navigating through it has made me want to adopt only special need cats. it breaks my heart imagening them (of course any other cat as well) in an overcrowded, loud shelter where they don't get enough attention and love. also i feel like our connection has gotten more intense.
