I think this writer understands Fluttershy on a different level. He treated her more like a well balanced character. The others give her only two extremes. extremely shy and extremely rude. Thank you new writer. I like him already. Like you I loved Newbie Dash.

Fluttershy is reaching the extent of her character. What you said is kind of an insult to the other writers who literally made her what she is to get to this point. Her actions this episode were logical and just like anyone else would agree but it all comes from the work other people put into her. Plus, its her younger brother. I don't ship Zephyr Dash, but I can really appreciate his obvious flirting and her surprisingly tame reactions (I mean, if it was anyone else, she'd probably kick them to the moon), which shows that she _does_ care about him, but probably more in a honorary-little-brother kind of way, and is used to his antics. She must have known him for a very long time, with her and Fluttershy being childhood friends and everything. This is the first time we've seen Dash in a family dynamic that she has grown into ever since she was little, and it was pretty nice to see this new side to her. She makes a good (honorary) big sister, so I hope she has a similar role in her actual family.

I have to agree that Fluttershy has given a great performance in this one. I sensed a lot of maturity in her, being a responsible big sister to Zephyr and I couldn't have been more proud of her(frankly, I'm glad that she showed more of her assertiveness; especially for her parents). I was afraid that Zephyr was gonna be another douche of a character but no, he's actually pretty good. Kinda pitiful(and yes, obnoxious too), but good.

I know some people thought Zephyr was really cringey with Rainbow but I think that since they have known each other since they were young fillies that it's not as creepy. It's not like he was this random stallion, he has always had that older sisters friend crush and Rainbows always dealt with it.

This episode actually gives a lot more information about age! All the other mane 6 with younger siblings have siblings that look very young. Fluttershy a brother is obviously full grown and old enough to be a nuisance at home. So mid twenties? It's of course possible they were just born close together. But we also know flutter is a year older than pinkie, who also has an older younger sibling. So maybe age wise; flutter is oldest, followed by pinkie. Then rarity would be youngest. Rainbow would be close to rarities age (we know they went to school together). Rainbow would be older like fluttershy, but she looked a bit younger at flight camp, so third oldest. That leaves twilight. She'd probably be youngest or close to it. Shining is close to big mack's age. But we know Apple was a kid when Mack was a older kid. Twilight was still really young when shining was a teen.

This episode is amazing in the fact that it is clearly not a Kids moral. These are real life young adult lessons that kids have no reason to really understand (apart from the "Don't take your parents' support for granted" which was only the first part of the episode anyways).

This episode was fun. It was entertaining (as well as interesting) to see Shy's family, and even her brother who was, by all means a bum. I'm always up to see Fluttershy take a more leading role in an episode, and she certainly did here... I think this is the most assertive she has ever been without taking her out of her character. I'm glad there is still hope for her. Let's not forget the 'hitting on' happening this episode, that's always pretty funny to me, especially with the facial expressions given here.

Well, I never actually thought Pop Fly was going to be her brother. I was just repeating one of the popular theories about who he is. My thoughts were always more that Pop Fly was no one to do with MLP at all, but rather just an excuse for Daniel Ingram to slap some terrible unrelated song onto the Christmas album. Which so far seems right, hough I suppose I could still be proven wrong. 3. Nope. I don't think it was ever just Rarity who could manipulate him. 4. Agreed. 5. Ha! indeed. Yeah. Some dislike Zephyr Breeze but I think how he acted is very realistic. Since Mr. Shy and Mrs. Shy are even less assertive than Fluttershy, Zephyr probably got everything he wanted as a foal and got used to his parents doing everything for him. Fluttershy didn't turn out like him because well she's the element of kindness and doesn't like taking advantage of people.

I don't particularly like Newbie Dash, but I simply view it as Rapp having teething troubles (It's bound to happen, every now and again). Bur yeah I'm not the biggest fan of Fluttershy, but I loved watching her not stand any nonsense from the get go. Kudos for not resorting to letting her hospitality be used and having to learn to nut up. Maybe she learnt it from a certain group of despised creatures, huh?

It's funny. The fact that David Rapp was the writer of this episode caused a lot of fans to doubt the episode being good. I was one of few fans who was actually looking forward to it even more after that, since I love Newbie Dash. And now most fans are calling it great.

Zodia195 The only episode in the entire series that I'd qualify as a guilty pleasure for me is Boast Busters, which is one of my favorite episodes of season 1, despite being extremely flawed.

This episode is my new favourite episode of this season after Gauntlet Of Fire. Loved the overall feel and the use of characters. Even as a Flutterdash fan, it was by far not the thing to make the episode for me. (Also glad you didn't bash that at all here, and instead just focused on the episode and interactions too. Seriously, thank you for that. I feared a bit that you were going to before watching this) The things listed above and the song did. The song is now also my favourite of the season so far. (Another thing i noticed. You didn't talk about the song at all after the reaction. Maybe you just forgot? Would like to hear your thoughts on that sometime) Overall, i really love this episode, and this reaction! :D

the comment in that one was mostly intended as a joke. It was a kind of shippy moment (them sitting on the same cloud, singing together), but such a thing isn't automatically going to make me think less of an episode.

I love this episode and I loved that song! I just spotted a movie reference!!! Tom Hank's Cast Away! That part when ZB talked to his Mannequin head! Lol! Did you see the Link pony? Honestly I can see RD being an only child because she is use to being the Center of Attention.

Yeah. I see Rainbow as an only child too. For one thing, it'd make her unique among the mane six. Only other thing that might make sense is if she had a lot of siblings, and her bold attitude comes from her wanting to stand out, but that might be a situation too close to what we have with Pinkie.

I already saw a bunch of people hating this episode but just Fluttershy's Character Development alone makes this a good episode to me. They could have easily gone the Breezies way with her letting him walk all over her and at the last minute put her hoof down and learn the same lesson but they didn't and that gets a plus from me

Yes, except for the fact that this episode has her use knowledge from that episode. Breezies was the most important episode to Fluttershy's character development, don't you know? We've seen her use what she learned from that episode every episode after it.

Kevin Tignor No, IAEBB's the first time she learned that. Closest to that is Putting Your Hoof Down, which flanderized her greatly so she could go psycho and learn to be assertive, by conning the guy who just gave her tips that she took too far out of his money, the episode treating him like a villain despite him not doing anything. The moral of that episode was to be assertive, not aggressive, and was more about Flutter's learning to control herself. The real problem I have with how people view Flutter's character, is that they simplify her episodes and what they do for her so that the actual effects of said episodes are ignored.
