Blind Corner Cabinet

I hacked together a cool configuration for making use of all the space in a blind corner...if only I could create the hardware I need to make it operate smoothly!

I was so hopeful you'd get it worked out, I have four blind corner cabinets in my small galley kitchen (can't imagine what that builder was thinking!) that are practically useless. :(

I love this concept for a DIY corner cabinet solution. I know that slides that work like that are hard to find/expensive if there is anything even off the shelf. But it would be so cool to see a working solution of this. Great idea.

Those corners are always a problem. Great lesson in just how much time can be consumed by something that seems fairly simple to do.

Why not make a cabinet of exact size you have inside and do your configuration, you will be able to see what is going on and fix it easily, anyway good luck and don't give up.

Mount the pull out cabinet slides onto the side of the drawer cabinet ( that's normally hidden inside ) so the first cabinet can be pulled out completely like before except its mounted onto the drawer cabinet, this will allow you to fully extend the first cabinet out then move the whole thing to the right to give you access to the drawers, you will have to stabilize the drawers because of the weight of the pull out cabinet attached to it, some blind corner optimisers do this except they use wire baskets instead of drawers which I prefer because pull out swing is not robust

I know this is an old video but couldn’t resist commenting as this is still a problem for many. The problem with the pull out section is it is able to swing whist you’re trying to pull it out, which makes it clunky and unstable - hinge being on the back right corner. Wondered if you tried but it would work. -stabilising whilst in transit out of the cupboard. Put roller guides along the base of the cupboard and then a 4mm (or so) wide alloy or polished steel strip fixed underneath the moving unit. The strip would fit into the roller guides when going in and out. This would keep the base unit fixed until free of the cupboard. To make it super sturdy use two strips, one either side of the base. Obviously you would need Y shaped guides for the strips so that they centre out and enter roller guides perfectly. The drawer unit would need to be modified so that it rolls over the top of the roller guides. Looking at your workshop should be too hard to do.

So I'm gonna pick up where you left off with the blind corner. Instead of hinging the 1st pull out I'm gonna have the 1st one pull out to me; then, while pushing it out of the way it ends up pulling the other "2nd" pull out (that's nested in the blind corner). A double "box" where 1 pulls the other. The 2nd one is a box in a box, because the "outer" box has the floor drawer slides and the inner box has the side slides. Can you picture it?

As a 15 year cabinet maker/installer, this is super well done! I was thinking a pocket door hardware might work? It’s a set of door hinges attached to a set of drawer slides. So when you swing the door open, you can push it back into the cabinet. This might work in reverse for a drawer box like yours.

This gives me an idea to put a garbage compactor in the blind corner. You could throw your trash in, then a hydraulic garbage truck style compactor could press your trash into the blind space. Every month the super compact block of garbage (or perhaps recycling) could be removed.

Awesome tenacity! I found a blind corner solution called LeMans II System which I used in my house. After many years in the carpentry business this is by far the nicest solution I've seen. Easy to install and works flawlessly!

Sandra don’t give up. I’m a professional truck tech and have been for around 45 years. I’m occasionally faced with those kind of problems that doesn’t right away present a straight forward solution. There is a logical solution you just need to think on it; it’ll come to you in the middle of the night 😂. This is an excellent approach and I’m going to work on it because I have the same problem.

That's pretty cool. I did NOT expect that second set of drawers to slide out like that. Awesome. Ha ha. I too have been there. What should have taken me a few hours or a day to do turned into a week or so. ✌
