This is one of my favorite movies as a kid and made me a Rutger Hauer fan for life. At the time I didn't know this was just an Americanized version of the franchise Zatoichii. As an adult I rented every Zatoichii movie I could from Netflix DVD rental they had a ton of them. Also they made a reboot of Zatoichii around the same time which I thought was fantastic.

It's such a shame that Rutger Hauer never really received the recognition he deserved as an actor. Sure most audiences know him best as the evil replicant from Blade Runner. But he's done so much more and deserves more than he's gotten.

Blind Fury is currently a free movie on KZbin movies. I think what adds to the humor of the movie are the henchmen in the film. Each of them do not appear like action movie tough guys, but do have humorous facial reactions and slight heart on their sleeve overreaction when interacting with the protagonist.

Thank you! This is a wonderful, clear-eyed appraisal of a fantastic film. A friend of mine described it as a 'Steven Seagal type movie from an alternate universe' where corny action films have A-list actors playing the leads. Humour, realism, violence (curiously bloodless!) and pathos all expertly portrayed from a great script with great direction! Oddly, most people laugh this movie off without watching it despite them being Bladerunner fans. Rutger Hauer deserved an Oscar for his role here as Nick Parker and in Bladerunner but everyone was great in it. The sinister and/or idiotic villains make a great counterpart to Hauer's calm, collected stock action movie responses. This is the best commentary on why Blind Fury works so well I've ever read.
@Laurencetw4 жыл бұрын
Hauer was also in a (made for tv) movie based on the true story about an armed revolt and mass escape attempt by every inmate of a nazi concentration camp. Starred Alan Arkin too. Forget the name of the movie, but it was really good, and Hauer played his role fantastically well.
@jimdigriz29234 жыл бұрын
I remember the tagline for this in the UK - Quick as a snake, Strong as a Ox...Blind as a Bat. Great film with a great supporting cast, and the 'I also do circumcisions' line never gets old. Edit - Have you seen 'Midnight Sting' or 'Diggstown' (another name it went by) 1992 movie with James Woods, Lou Gossett Jr and Bruce Dern it's a (IMO) highly enjoyable Boxing/con movie? If not, it's worth checking out.

I loved Blind Fury when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in many years but I have to imagine it would still hold up. It would've been cool for Hauer to have played Stick in Netflix's Daredevil. Not that Scott Glenn didn't do a great job, it just would've been a clever nod to fans of Blind Fury, which might have actually been a meta reference because I wonder if Stick was originally inspired by Zatoichi, upon which Blind Fury is based. Also, The Hitcher was amazing. I remember being mesmerized by how scary Hauer was.

I watched this movie like 20 times as a kid, but at the time I didn't really know to appreciate the Hauer never makes eye contact and I never noticed his eyes tracking a point of interest in a scene. I gotta imagine that's really difficult, especially for the grand sword fight at the end. With most actors they need to cop out with sunglasses or some other way to hide the eyes.

This movie actually shows what you can do through practice. It's not just a Hollywood movie. I started practicing several things in this movie after I saw it. I became pretty good, and I've helped friends here and there, as well as other people. There are a lot of movies, if you don't have the money, that can help teach you how to do a lot. Be intelligent enough to figure it out. Blind Fury remains one of my all time favorites, as well as all Bruce Lee moves. No R.I.P. Rutger Hauer. We all continue on after we let go from the body.
