It occurs to me that the Sensory Support Service & staff at Hambrook Primary School in Bristol are in desperate need of a daily dose of Red Forman's foot, & perhaps that could reset their scrambled brains. What's ironic is that if they were rendered without sight they would actually be able to SEE that their actions are that of sadistic child abusers (to put it politely) & do not comply with human rights. They are essentially holding Lily-Grace Hooper's life in contempt. This is outright appalling. My heart goes out to Kristy & Lily-Grace Hooper.

This is so messed up in so many ways, I'm not even sure where to start... for one, shame on the school.
@Joy61687 жыл бұрын
I completely agree that this is so messed up in so many ways. It's amazing how ignorant and uncaring people can be, about disabilities. I can start, 007K: first, the 7 year old needs the cane for her health and safety, so to take it away from her goes against discrimination laws passed, preventing assistance to those with disabilities being illegal. Second, the school isn't an expert on disabilities, that's the special education teacher's job. Third, if the special education teacher suggested taking the cane away to begin with, I will be furious, because people in that career position should know better. Fourth, if it's the general education teacher or principal or superintendent that suggested this discrimination, then shame on them, they have absolutely no right to make that kind of decision. Fifth, by law, the school can't ban a child from their premises because that child has a disability and know that, so instead of explaining to the other kids why the cane is needed and bullying will not be tolerated, they decide to make her life harder, by banning the cane she needs, which is lazy on it's part. Sixth, that seven year old needs to learn independence, just like any other seven year old, whether she has a disability or not, it's only a matter of time that the child will get hurt in some way, shape or form without her cane, which will most likely result in the school claiming innocence, to not feel the repercussions of their actions, which caused this to begin with. Seventh, the best way to get this school to sit up and take notice about the problem they just caused, is by threatening to take away it's money and the best way to do that, is through a lawsuit.

The problem with a guide dog is that it's not a form of independent travel as the dog is still guiding you just like a person would so it's still just as bad for her proper development. Also guide dogs require constant training from the user and a child really can't provide that so most guide dog agencies have a minimum age of 16 and require some level of formal training in independent travel techniques.

More than likely the school will try to make some excuse why she can't have that either, basicallly saying she is unable to be independent and will never be able to be on her own.

Can't get a guide dog until one is at least 16 years of age. She also has to be a confident and independent cane user before even considering applying for a dog. It's a huge responsibility so the emotional maturity has to be there, too.

How sick of the school, to follow this advice. They should be ashamed of themselves. This goes against the anti-discrimination laws protecting the disabled from such stupidity. Somebody, please name and shame this school on facebook. Abonimable behaviour, teaching children that discrimination is okay. Their behaviour is criminal. Take it to court and win the day. Health & Safety Nazi's.

Ok its hambrook I go to that school I'm using my friends KZbin account and by the way there has been many police officers at our school and we all don't like it so could you not post or share any thing about this .and by the way she trips other people up because the other children are running and looking in another direction when lily can always hold an adults hand which there is an adult there all the time or she can get a smaller cane which is very simple .
@johnbradley22178 жыл бұрын
So she has got to change her behaviour to accommodate people that can see, are you stupid? You will learn that accommodating people who are not so lucky as you is what life is all about. As for stopping posting on the Internet about this subject? Should not have let it become a news item, too late once it's on the net. You'll learn. LOL.

What about the health and safety of the girl? This is just forcing her to rely on adults, something that she should not have to do by now, instead of getting more independence. She KNOWS how important her cane is, it's her 'eyes' and here we have them taking it away. Blind people need their canes and she's mature enough not to harm anyone, if some idiot gets tripped up on it, even though it's obvious that she's blind, that is NOT her fault. And then we have them saying how she has to rely on others, 'why don't you get some independence', it's unforgivable!

This is just like here in the states. I was born with not so strong lungs and was way to little when i was born. 22 now perfectly fine except the lungs. When i was in school they refused to let me bring my inhaler with me. Well in 3rd grade the fucking gym teacher made us climb the rope and back down, then made us run 20 laps around the gym. After wards he made us do 20 push ups and 20 crunches. I warned him i needed to stop and i was sent to the office for defiance. Half way there i had an asthma attack. The teachers thought i was faking until my face turned blue and i passed out. I had to intubated at the hospital. Even after all that they still wouldn't let me have my inhaler. They said i would abuse it. Wtf Well it happened to me again in 5th grade when we were forced to do an obstacle course and later play soccer for gym class. I passed out because of the heat and extreme physical activity. Naturally the school blamed it all on me saying i never told them i had asthma. Wtf You knew i had asthma. You took my inhaler away, said i would abuse it and waited till i turned blue to fucking believe me. I was so glad when i got the fuck out of that elementary school. Middle and high school wasn't much better either but at least they had fucking smart people unlike the elementary school.
@torakokoneko8 жыл бұрын
i'll never understand why people assume elementary schoolers will "abuse" their inhalers which have no recreational use... if a parent trusts a kid with an inhaler, they should just have to sign a waiver saying they won't sue if the kid somehow "abuses" the inhaler and leave it at that. i wasn't allowed to have my inhaler on me either, which fortunately didn't ever hurt me since they just kept it in the nurse's office and i went there at lunch to take it (it was a daily inhaler, i think they had my emergency one in there too but i don't recall ever having an asthma attack during school). i do remember getting way overheated during gym class once (or maybe field day? i don't remember) and the teachers told me i was fine and to keep going, and then i got home and barfed everywhere from being overheated, fun times... i was also twice exceptional (learning disabled and gifted) and instead of giving me proper support, they denied adhd/nld (nld is basically asperger's but magically not on the autism spectrum, i was later rediagnosed) accommodations based on my IQ, and wouldn't let me participate in gifted stuff based on my average-to-low grades which were due to not having accommodations for my disabilities... so i ended up thoroughly on the "average" track through jr. high and high school, with one exception (being bumped up a math class my senior year) where i struggled with getting decent grades because i couldn't keep up with the level of studying/organization/generally "having it together" that was expected of me, while being utterly bored with the actual material. tl;dr schools are fucking terrible at accommodating disabled kids.

My Nystagmus makes it so that anything I try to focus on that's a certain distance (which is unfortunately very short) away starts to shake and it just won't quit moving! she is blind so how can she see to hit anyone with it and as long as she keeps it on the ground it aint a problem. healthy and safety these days if they had their way then we would all be wrapped up in bubble wrap with our arms taped to our sides and our mouths sealed shut so we do not hit or bite someone
