I think it could be a cool and a fascinating idea if you guys made a VR experience that would simulate the fuzzy pin hole sight that Paul experiences because of his blindness. It would really enable us to put ourselves in his shoes and really show us what it’s like.

I believe there exist glasses to replicate different variations of blindness/vision impairments. When i was still at highschool (Germany) we got a workshop ish on the topic and they had some of these for us to try and better understand

Paul, I would look through Apple’s documents about the Vision Pro. You can change the pointer color and turn on voiceover. I haven’t had a chance to try this yet, but as someone with low vision, I’m excited for the future of this tech.

I also have retinitis pigmentosa, in the early stages. I have a very difficult time seeing in low light/dark, but in the bright sun, I do need to wear sunglasses. The bright sun is over stimulating for my eyes, making me feel discomfort and causing floaters to block my central vision. [I also have amblyopia -- AKA, lazy eye blindness. I think that may be why I also have problems in bright sunlight.] It is interesting to hear Paul discuss his visual limitations. I have 2 cousins that also have retinitis pigmentosa. One started having diminished vision in his mid-thirties, but he passed away just a few years after his diagnosis. My other cousin, like me, was in his 50s when he was diagnosed. He and I haven't discussed our diagnosis and how it has already affected our sight. It is very informative hearing Paul explain what and how he sees. My vision may not ever get as bad as Paul's, although it is possible. I especially find it interesting that you describe your blind area as "snow" or "static." I describe my blind spots more like looking through water. Bless all three of you...I will never leave out Mr Maple! Looking forward to your next upload!

@@darragh3771bro…. I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not. Accessiblity tools are on most devices. Please educate yourself at least a little bit before you go and laugh at someone. And if you watch other videos on this channel, despite his vision being so bad, he was still able to write and illustrate his own children’s book. Also the commenter said they’re in the early stages, they likely still have some or most of their eyesight, it’s just deteriorating. Usually, as your eyesight deteriorates, you transition more and more to using accessibility tools that you might not have needed at all before.

@@darragh3771also even if they don’t have most of their vision, they can still experience this video largely the same. They stated before what was going on in the video and mostly say aloud what’s going on. Most blind people can watch commentary kinds of videos just fine, not to the same extent because often they have physical comedy or some kind of clip without context, but it’s basically just like treating every video as a podcast. Deaf people do the opposite, obviously, and often rely on video subtitles! Just like how blind people have a range of vision loss, deaf people may hear some things or learn to communicate and understand through different means like lip reading and even fully deaf people can learn to speak! Though most use sign language, and may follow people who also use sign language as most people do when they have a unique lived experience in the age of the internet. Fully dead-blind individuals, I’d say, are the only ones that are really unable to enjoy KZbin

It's the way the lenses and focusing works in VR with the depth component. I'm not sure about the Vision Pro but the Quest focuses at a 4 foot focus distance and you can get prescription lenses for it to compensate for it with your particular vision.

The only problem with this and other adaptive technology is, it’s so expensive that no blind person unless you have a lot of money or you know they’re giving it to you for like a KZbin video or something people can’t OK actually afford this stuff. You know there’s a lot of stuff that could enhance my vision because I’m partially blind but you know like every device starts at like $2000 price point. And they become out of date and obsolete so fast. I also had to have a friend that has severe learning disabilities, and like she could be helped by a lot of this blind technology like the or cam but again, there’s zero chance of her actually being able to buy it and use it

Paul, I love how you explain your condition. My mom has RP as well and the same as you describe. She was in her late 40s or early 50s when she really got affected by her RP. Luckily her disease is slow progressing and she will more than likely out live it before it makes her completely blind, doctors claim. She struggles with darkness as well, we have to leave tons of lights on in my house for her and I really never understood exactly, other than she hates darkness and is hard for her to see... but since you explained it better, I empathize more. She also has to directly target the object in front of her to see it, which is challenging as we (her family) have to show or direct her precisely. A couple things I am curious if you also have these symptoms as well from RP... she has excessive blinking and at times she nods her head struggling to open her eyes. Also, dry eyes. She has to use artificial tears. Do these affect you as well? I also hear RP is hereditary but skips a generation. Does anyone in your family also have this and at what age did you develop RP? (ur such a handsome young man already, lucky Michael 😊) unfortunately there is no cure as of yet, but I have heard stem cell procedures, just not sure if has any help with RP. Thank you very very much for listening. You both be safe and keep being such wonderful fun loving guys you are.

Hope Apple makes improvements on this. Maybe both of you could call customer support with your questions and as they are telling Matthew, Paul could be trying to navigate on the device in real time. Hopefully it is just a learning curve. Now, I know this is going to sound strange but, do you have a peephole in your apartment door? If you do, has Paul ever looked thru it? In quilting, there is a gadget called a quilter’s telescope? It really is just a door peephole that you can buy at a hardware store. If you look thru the small lens (the end that would be on the outside of the door) it will be fuzzy (because you don’t want people looking thru it into your home. If you look thru the larger end (the end that would be on the apartment side of the door) it should be clearer and closer. I was thinking this might help you when you’re drawing on your IPad to bring your drawing closer without having to keep zooming in and out. Might be worth a try?
